Just to confuse things a bit more: I once came across a developer who would build a "model home" in a new area and use it to meet clients as well as a model. He would then custom build the rest of the development, but would treat the model as a business asset. (Part advertisement, part office and show floor.) The model home would then go off on 4797. I never handled that transaction myself, but ran across it in a later year. I'm sure that the "banker" is using a logic chain for the tax treatment that would hold up in any barbershop in the land!

That's correct. The copy of the POA should be attached to a Form 8453. The 8879 cannot be used in this situation.

I finally was able to get through to the E-Services help desk. The lady I talked to was unable to access the system from her end when she tried. She also told me that they have had reports of similar problems for the last week. It seems that the IRS computer geeks are doing a shutdown on Sunday AM to update the system. It seems that service is past due in this case. Thanks for your advice. I was begining to think that I was "losing it" to a greater extent than I already admit. I guess that the best course is to wait until Monday and see if things have improved.

My password works OK when I am able to access the login page. I last updated it about 2 months ago. The system sometimes does not display the login page, giving me either "This page cannot be displayed" message or an error message having to do with the server. When I do get on, things will progress OK until it just dumps me back to the main menu with no warning. I have been able to use this system in the past with few problems, but in the last 2 weeks or so it's been a mess.

Has anyone else been having problems with E-Services? Every time that I try to use it lately, I either can't get to the login page or the process will fail in the last few pages and dump me. i have tried to call their help desk, but after about 30 or so minutes on hold, i have to hang up. Any sugestions?

All extensions are filed. All Acks are in . I was feeling good until this morning when a gentleman came in with a tax question. Seems his wife had convinced him that ( are you ready for the line?) "when you turn 72 you don't have to file taxes any more". The man is 85 and hasn't filed in 13 years. Has farm cash rent income of $36K plus interest, etc. Looks like I have a summer project. I JUST LOVE THIS BUSINESS!!!
