  1. I updated ATX to 12.9 and now Paperless Plus says that the firewall has to be adjusted. It opened fine this morning before I updated.
  2. I have a client (actually the son of a long time client) who got married this year to someone who does not qualify for a ss# and does not have an itin. She has resided in this country all year, so is not a non-resident, and is going through the process to get a green card. I told him he should paper file with W7 application, but he wants to know if he can file MFS without an ITIN. Is this possible? Thanks.

    It's Over

KC - my deepest sympathies and prayers to you and your family. And my Don rest in peace. Draw strength from all of us you have touched over the years and from your beautiful family.
  4. Yes. Her parents would have received a Form HC from their insurance company that would list her and give all the info needed - their ID# and your client's individual subscriber # along with the box checked off for full year coverage (or part year and the months). Assuming full year...LIne 3a check full year. Line 4a check private insurance. LIne 4f the insurance info. That's it. If she was not covered at least form Aug on, then the rest of the 4 page form has to be filled out - and that's an adventure for a first-timer. Good luck.
  5. It depends on when the birthday is. LIne 1 is the only input if the birthday is on or after October 1. Health care requirement begins the first day of the third month following the birthday.
  6. Client moved from Arizona to Massachusetts in June. En route stopped off to visit relatives for a few weeks in CT. When 1099R arrived it showed state taxes paid to CT. Has called them to have a corrected form sent but they are clueless and she is waiting for a callback from supervisors. If they can't figure it out is there any way other than filing a non-resident CT return to get money back - and paying MA? It's the little aggravations..............

    Transcript

Thank you all. Finally got through to a rep in the transcript department and they said it would take 3 weeks to be "processed" after the e-file was accepted - if there were no "issues". Then it would take and indeterminate amount of time for the transcript to be available. The college letter said that every year a group of students is chosen for additional documentation. I'll have her check the FAFSA site.

    Transcript

Any idea how long it takes for e-filed returns to be available to request a transcript? I have a client who needs a transcript directly from the IRS for a college (they won't take a copy of tax return). Her return was e-filed with an accepted date of 3/6 but the website and the automated phone line say a transcript is not available for 2011. I'm on hold with IRS now with a wait time of "in excess of 15 min"... Thanx

    My ATX

Is the site down today or is it just me?
  10. I was told this year that I had to get the new paperlessplus because document mgr would not work with 2011. I loaded & converted according to the directions. I've just tried to print returns to it and a small rotating blue circle appears for a long time then nothing. Nothing is transferred to the paperless program. Anyone else have this problem & solve it? Wendy
  11. I have a client with a new Forex account. She was told that there is no 1099 and it is up to her to report it. Others have told her that she does not need to report individual transactions, just the net result. Is this true? I've never encountered one of these before. Thanks. Wendy
  12. I like that monitor setup! I'm jealous. I only have two monitors - but one is a 27" and I increased the size of the fonts for my tired old eyes. I never thought of turning a monitor to vertical............duh. Nice article about you. You deserve it. We can all say we knew you "when". Wendy
  13. This is the first time I've seen a 1099B for options and I can't think straight at this point. It has entries for Box 8 - 9 - and 11. I've seen that I need form 6781 but where in ATX do I input the info from the 1099? The usual entry spot for Sch D does not seem to have the appropriate boxes. Thanx. Wendy
  14. Groan.........Love it.
  15. Good point on capital gains! Thanks. It was a "rental" property for more than 12 months but not rented every month as this is a seasonal area. Also not used for personal use during that time.
  16. Yes, the use changed permanently. I was hoping I didn't have to go by the IRS "calendar year" usage and could allocate the expenses and take a rental loss. I just couldn't find a reference to that.
  17. New client has owned residential rental property for several years. Last year they rented it out through September then moved into it as their primary residence. I can't find how we can avoid the Vacation Home rules for expenses in excess of income. They had a loss on the rental portion, but if the loss is suspended due to vacation rules, it will be gone as it won't be rented again. Is there a way out of this that I don't see? Thanx Wendy
  18. I set up a Dell Vostro 64 bit in January. ATX works fine going back several years. The only problem I had with ATX was the Document Manager which I had not purchased this year, and the old version would not work. I had not updated last year's version, and they said the updated one should have worked. Quickbooks is another thing altogether... There is some way to make 2010 work (I did not have it so I'm not sure what it is), but other than that only 2011 will work on Win7. One major warning - do NOT transfer via PC Mover. I did that and it corrupted files, supposedly because I was going from XP to Win7. Dell had suggested it. It may have had a way to choose specific things to move, but I did not see it. I had a total of about 12 annoying hours on the phone with tech support with QBooks and about 5 with ATX. The ATX techs were terrific. They tried so hard to find a solution. But in the end I had to purchase the new Document Manager. Then had to pay a tech company to wipe the computer and re-install the operating system. Word to the wise...after the fact, all of the tech people told me I should not have used PC mover! When I purchased the computer Microsoft Office 2007 was included at no cost. 2010 would have been an extra. I actually still like 2003 better, but accepted the 2007. Good luck. Wendy
  19. I need to vent! I am totally frustrated. I tried to be pro-active & prevent problems for tax season and bought a new computer - Windows 7 64bit. Backed up everything - Ghost to external HD, individual flashdrive for some files, Carbonite. Transferred with PC Mover. ATX DocMgr wouldn't work - 4 hrs with tech support. They told me I had to get new version. New version arrived...still won't open. Meanwhile, bought QB2011 since it's the only version for Win7 - that crashes when I try to restore a backup. 2 calls with tech support - over an hour each - and finally got it working. Tried to restore another file tonight...........right.......CRASH. This tech support guy tells me to disconnect 2nd monitor (which last techie told me was not necessary). So frustrated I hung up. My brain is screaming. I'll try again tomorrow - after the last of the w2s and 1099s are out.
  20. You do have to renew every year - which I just found out. I had TTO last year through TRX and it was included. When I renewed this year I was told that my current Document Mgr would work as it had options for 2010 in the files, so I purchased MAX and not Doc Mgr. New computer with Win7 and spent 3 hours on the phone with a great guy in tech support who remotely tried to make the 2009 even open (updated 9.2 will supposedly work with Win7). But he told me that even if we got it to work, it would not with 2010 program. Drat!
  21. You guys rock! Thanks to your advice my client was able to come to an agreement for just the trust fund portion. He's thrilled and relieved - and of course thinks I'm a magician...

    Stapleslink

I used it for one thing - a calculator. It was $12 cheaper (about 20%)than any place else. But other things I needed were not any less - in fact I got them on sale at the regular Staples site more cheaply. Wendy
  23. Is there any relief - similar to "innocent spouse" - in a corporation? I have a client who started an S-corp with a friend/neighbor. He had most of the contacts (construction) and the friend did the paperwork, checks, filings etc, and they were taking payroll. But when they gave me the QB file for this year I saw that one quarter of payroll tax was not paid - and filings had not been done. My client had no idea of this as he had been told it was all taken care of. He now has received letters & levy from IRS for payroll taxes. The "friend" is nowhere to be found & doesn't return calls or e-mails - lost his house, truck repossessed etc. Client wants to take care of his half, but I told him I didn't think that would fly - that he probably would have to pay it all and sue the friend. Corp can't be dissolved until outstanding liability paid. I have POA and a call in to Officer to set up meeting. Anyone else faced something like this? Any hope? Thanks - and Happy New Year! Wendy
