  1. I had a trust return earlier (2014 calendar year and final short year in 2015) so I don't think I had any carry over numbers. You may just have to input the beginning numbers. Yes, duplicate the return, rename. My efiling was rejected by ATX for reason of it already being filed. I called ATX and they did something to set it to go thru the efiling process. I will have an estate income tax return coming up with a FYE of 5/31/15 and another final short year ending in 2015. No, you don't have to wait for the 2015 forms or 2015 software.
  2. Are you talking about the efiling of the 2nd return in the 2014 software? I think you have to call ATX and have them do something on their end to allow the 2nd return to go thru.
  3. For Ky, this form is not required if efiling with a Fed PIN.

    Windows 10

It's already been two and a half years on my laptop and one year on my desktop. Win 8 and 8.1. No need for me to update to W10 because I'm not getting a new system. For those actually planning to get a new system, they'll just have to read your comments and Eric's comments and make their decision.

Jack, true, I'm a one man office. There are budget constraints. But even then, if you're buying new, I still can't see buying a 5 year old os. Getting used to the new interface is minimal.

I can't imagine buying a new system with W7. It may be supported until 2020 so buying today may be ok. But what about next year and the next? What about buying when there's only one more year left of W7 support? By then, maybe W11 or W12 will be out. Will you be afraid of the latest os? Or will you be confident enough by then to go with W8? I think this will go on and on. I've always liked to buy the latest, use it as long as I could, then buy new with the latest. I was fortunate enough not to have to buy new when Vista came out and could continue using my xp until W7 came out. I may have bought Vista, may have gotten burned or not. I don't know. But W8 has been out almost 3 years. Get the latest and learn the new interface.

I disagree. If I were buying a new system today, I would go with the latest os. W10.

I agree Eric. I have 8.1 but I don't want to update to 10. I see no benefit at this time and I shouldn't be in the market for a new system for several years out.
  9. And now the divorce lawyers can have more business. Same sex divorce.
  10. I think this goes back before CCH bought ATX and when ATX bought Kleinrock. I continued to receive the CDs. I wonder how many they're sending and if anyone can use them anymore.
  11. Mine too Lion EA. This CD doesn't work on my computer and hasn't for years. But they keep sending the CDs. Weird.
  12. Yes Jack, but this is not solicitation. It was part of the subscription of ATX and later incorporated with the Intelliconnect tax research. Practical Tax Expert is still listed as a subcategory in the Intelliconnect service. They're still mailing these manual CDs out. Anyone getting these?
  13. Does anyone else still receive these CDs for Practical Tax Expert? They haven't worked on my computer in a long time. Way back when I first got a W7 machine. Just got one today for April 2015.
  14. This is probably going to be the case. The chair will not be conducive to sitting at a desk doing paper work. He's been to a chiropractor but that hasn't helped much. If the chair helps his back before and after a day's work, then it will be good for him, but not a business expense.
  15. Thanks for comments.
  16. Client is a painter. Wants to buy a massage chair to loosen his back before and after work. Wants to know if it could be deductible as office furniture/equipment. I'm doubtful. Even on Sch A medical, probably would need a doctor's prescription.
  17. In this case, the client was reimbursed by his employer when the course was completed. However, he left the employer within a year and had to pay back the employer. So if the payment to the college was made in 2013 but the expense was incurred by the client in 2014, I was wondering if I have to amend the 2013 return or include in 2014 return (which has not be filed yet).
  18. If Form 1098T is issued for 2013 but the box is marked for academic period beginning Jan-March 2014, is there a choice available to take the credit in 2013 or 2014? Or must it be in 2013?
  19. Why so many backups on companies and payers? I only see 5 on the clients plus another one not numbered. And how do we backup the Settings?
  20. Also from the start screen, you can page down and get all apps listed. First listed by Alpha letter, then scroll right and listed by app company. You can organize from drop down arrow at top by Name, Dated Installed, Most Used and Category. I simply use touch to scroll down, but you can click on the down arrow. See Eric's screen at lower left. To me, this just beats W7 all over.

    PTC Repayment

If all months are the same you complete line 11 for the annual total. Otherwise, you complete lines 12-23 for each month. Not sure if this helps your situation.
  22. I got an HP S230tm, with my HP desktop system (Z230). My laptop is also an HP, Spectre xt Touchsmart.
  23. Won't Windows 10 have the option to go all desktop or all tiles on your start screen? I thought I read that somewhere. As for the touch screen, I first got it with my laptop. Obviously, a smaller and closer device. But I have a touch monitor with my desktop. My work station setup allows me to sit close and place the monitor close to the near edge of the workstation top with a pull out shelf for my keyboard and a smaller pullout shelf to the right for my mouse. The touch is very handy in a lot of ways. My 2nd monitor to the right of my touch monitor is not touch but I may want to get a touch monitor for my 2nd monitor eventually.
  24. Eric, I've always been leery of upgrading on my existing system. I haven't done it since going from 95 to 98 on the same machine. Since then, I've gotten the new os with a new machine. I did go from 8 to 8.1 on my laptop. I just got my latest pc last year with 8.1. Do you see any problem with getting the free upgrage to 10 on the same machine?

    Renewal

ATX is now offering something called ATX Advantage. I'm not sure what you get for the additional $1400, yes that's right. They say something about advanced calculations and dedicated support. I can't imagine this giving ATX any more speed. It sounds like a transition to establishing a two tier program. One low end program, one higher end program. I renewed the Total Tax package but I'll see how this goes in the future.
