  1. If Form 1098T is issued for 2013 but the box is marked for academic period beginning Jan-March 2014, is there a choice available to take the credit in 2013 or 2014? Or must it be in 2013?
  2. Why so many backups on companies and payers? I only see 5 on the clients plus another one not numbered. And how do we backup the Settings?
  3. Also from the start screen, you can page down and get all apps listed. First listed by Alpha letter, then scroll right and listed by app company. You can organize from drop down arrow at top by Name, Dated Installed, Most Used and Category. I simply use touch to scroll down, but you can click on the down arrow. See Eric's screen at lower left. To me, this just beats W7 all over.

    PTC Repayment

If all months are the same you complete line 11 for the annual total. Otherwise, you complete lines 12-23 for each month. Not sure if this helps your situation.
  5. I got an HP S230tm, with my HP desktop system (Z230). My laptop is also an HP, Spectre xt Touchsmart.
  6. Won't Windows 10 have the option to go all desktop or all tiles on your start screen? I thought I read that somewhere. As for the touch screen, I first got it with my laptop. Obviously, a smaller and closer device. But I have a touch monitor with my desktop. My work station setup allows me to sit close and place the monitor close to the near edge of the workstation top with a pull out shelf for my keyboard and a smaller pullout shelf to the right for my mouse. The touch is very handy in a lot of ways. My 2nd monitor to the right of my touch monitor is not touch but I may want to get a touch monitor for my 2nd monitor eventually.
  7. Eric, I've always been leery of upgrading on my existing system. I haven't done it since going from 95 to 98 on the same machine. Since then, I've gotten the new os with a new machine. I did go from 8 to 8.1 on my laptop. I just got my latest pc last year with 8.1. Do you see any problem with getting the free upgrage to 10 on the same machine?

    Renewal

ATX is now offering something called ATX Advantage. I'm not sure what you get for the additional $1400, yes that's right. They say something about advanced calculations and dedicated support. I can't imagine this giving ATX any more speed. It sounds like a transition to establishing a two tier program. One low end program, one higher end program. I renewed the Total Tax package but I'll see how this goes in the future.
  9. That's why I don't like the SAAS (software as a service) model. Very reluctant of cloud software.
  10. I recently did not renew my Peachtree (Sage) accountants plan. I had one client left using Peachtree and he was switching to QB. So at $500, I did not want to renew. I have the 2015 version already. Recently I opened up the program and was not allowed to make any changes. I could only review what I had already entered. That was a surprise since I thought I still had that complete program (and paid for it previously). Apparently, they zapped me online. Oh well, I really don't need it. I'll use QB and ride it out.
  11. Making more money. For them that is. They call it capitalism. I call it private sector communism.
  12. Either he bought this a hundred years ago or it's a shack on stilts surrounded by alligators!!!
  13. I'd do the 1065. They want to be an LLC, presumably for legal protection. So I recommend being consistent in all things and act like an LLC. Some people don't bother to title the property in the LLC name. How does that work if there's legal action?

    Renewal

Renew by phone is better than online. I think the discount is good to May 31.
  15. Yes, better to do by phone. I think the discount is good to May 31.
  16. joanmcq, what does Medlin include? I do some quarterly payroll returns, year end 1099s and W2s. I don't bother with efiling these. But I'm wondering if I go with Drake, I'll need something to replace the payroll returns. I would also probably pick up Parker Tax Service to replace the Intelliconnect. If total pricing would be about the same as ATX Total Tax, it's something to consider.
  17. I thought the Total Tax package was more than the Max package. More in what is included as well a higher price ($1826 plus $99 CD shipping). So I would think going from Total Tax to Max would be a downgrade, not an upgrade. Can you explain?
  18. I'm seeing Total Tax Package for $1826 plus $99 shipping package. When I look at what the package includes, it doesn't saying anything about Intelliconnect. It does refer to Master Tax Guide, various Tax guide books, practical aids. I'm wondering if they are downsizing us on the tax research tools.

    EXTENSIONS

    I do this too.
  20. March 16
  21. Client checking out Where's My Refund IRS tool. IRS showing return not filed. I'm showing return efiled and accepted. ATX showing same. Client says bank info is correct and info entered on IRS tool is correct. Anyone know what might be happening?
  22. I would use dollars for AOC first assuming income is low enough for eligibility. Then excess cost including room and board for the 1099Q dollars. Also, poster said $9300 was gross distribution. How much was reported as earnings? Only the earnings would be subject to tax if not enough dollars to offset. It sounds like there's plenty of cost dollars to apply to both.
  23. Ok, I've seen it.
  24. Am I reading this correctly? Client has Sch C income of $31k. K-1 partnership loss of $44k (he is general partner, has basis). K-1 shows loss in SE earnings box. With investment income, AGI showing positive $3k Client got health ins thru exchange and received advance premium credit. With low AGI, income drops to 19%, less than 100% of poverty level. I'm showing on Form 8962 that he not only doesn't have to pay any back (max would have been $600) because his estimated income when applying thru the exchange was at least 100% of poverty level but he is also eligible to get the reimbursed credit for the additional amount above the advanced credit. I wasn't expecting this and just wanted some confirmation. I was expecting the payback for those whose income exceeded the 400% of poverty level.
