  1. I use the comparison for myself on all clients. But I only include it with the client's copy of returns for select clients. The same for a few select worksheets.
  2. Or in top horizontal menu, Forms, Planning/Analysis, Last Year Comparison.
  3. I got the Drake demo one year and purchased it for the next two years, while keeping and using ATX. I must be crazy to have done that but I wanted to give Drake a fair chance. In the end I really didn't stick with it enough and was just too comfortable with ATX. So I can't give a fair evaluation of Drake. I'm just a one person office. For years, I thought any large office would want to use the higher end programs such as ProSeries or Lacerte. I know they're a lot more expensive but I assumed these firms would also have much greater volume and revenues to budget for that. They have to evaluate that themselves. I'll stick with ATX and hopefully ride out my final few years without any major disruption.
  4. I've not filed a 706 and probably won't have any clients like that. The only circumstance I can think of filing a 706 myself would be the first of a couple to die and you just want to check the box for the carryover exemption. Even if they don't have much money, just in case the surviving spouse came into some money later.
  5. Is it due to being on a network? or number of clients (Jack mentioned 400 clients)? If number of clients, why would it happen so early or are you rolling over all clients up front? Just wondering why some are having the problem and not others.
  6. Back in 2012, I had the program on one drive and my files on another drive. Not a good idea. After that, I had all ATX on the one drive (C). That was my previous computer and my C drive was an SSD with limited space. That's why I initially had the files on the D drive. With my current computer, my SSD is much bigger and space is not a problem. I still have a 2nd HD (traditional type). I think ATX recommends having everything on the same drive. Like Abby, I have it encrypted too (Bit Locker). Would prefer PGP (now owned by Symantec) but PGP told me my new drives were not yet ready for PGP. That was a year and a half ago though.
  7. Has anyone else had trouble updating to 15.2? Stand alone system? I was going to update Monday until I saw this thread. Put it off. I'm just working with the Payroll program for now.
  8. Ground control to Major Tom...
  9. Same here on updating OS on an existing computer. I did it once way back going from W95 to W98. I just think there are too many things going on unknown in the background. Not to mention the older hardware being used.
  10. I wonder if the whole industry isn't reaching a point of diminishing returns. They must continue to think of ways to keep their profits coming in. MS, Apple, and all the established companies. Then there are all these tech startups (unicorns they're called) with apps that seem goofy and most aren't even profitable.
  11. The insidious thing about a lot of software programs today is that if you stop renewing, you can't access past versions that you already paid for, even when the software is installed on your own computer, and not in the cloud.
  12. Interesting. Sounds like he liked 8 and 8.1 a lot. Maybe MS overreacted to the 'I hate W8' crowd. Or maybe they're cursed for skipping the number 9. Ha. I have a fairly new 8.1 system. Normally I don't upgrade an existing system so I wasn't going to upgrade. I'll wait to when I need a new system and see if W11 or W12 is out by then. Ha.
  13. I agree for 2016. I'm just trying get the W2 right for 2015 and avoid amended and corrected W2.
  14. This article only includes Notice 2015-17. It does not mention Notice 2015-87. My question is does 2015-87 override (stop) the extension for the S Corp shareholder/employee that 2015-17 gives him thru 2015. I'm referring to an S Corp shareholder/employee who has other employees (not those with only one employee-the shareholder).
  15. I thought by default, a SMLLC was taxed as a sole proprietorship and a MMLLC was taxed as a partnership. Or you have to actively elect with the IRS for the LLC to be taxed otherwise.
  16. Same here. I don't like to upgrade an existing system. I usually wait until I get a new system.
  17. Yes, Outlook is part of the Office Suite. W8 came with a separate mail program. I assume W10 does too. I have W8 but don't use that mail program. I use Outlook. I didn't have a problem. Not sure what's going on with Gene.
  18. No. 2 Does this refer to the other employees of an S corp or does it include the S Corp shareholder/employee? I understood that Notice 2015-17 allowed the S Corp shareholder/employee to continue previous treatment thru 2015 (that is ins premiums reported in W2 Box 1, but not Box 3 & 5).
  19. Where do they come up with the names of these ACTs?
  20. How do they get it into the LLC if they have existing mortgages on the properties? I wonder if the lender will allow the title transfer without a lot of reworking the loan.
  21. I do my W2s and 1099s on paper too. I don't have too many. But I don't pay for the stamps. I give the originals to client to sign and mail.
  22. Same here Jack. I like to wait awhile before installing. In the past I only entered the one code. Except they now have the Payroll as a separate program with a separate install code.
  23. Time to clear out some things. And go digital!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I should talk, I still have my old accounting text books from undergrad school on my bookcase. Late 60s, early 70s.
  24. Last year there was a late DOL ruling changing the way we prepare W2s for S Corp shareholder/employees. Then IRS issued Notice 2015-17. My understanding is if the S shareholder/employee is the only employee, this is an exception to ACA and amounts paid for health insurance will be reported on the W2 as in the past. Added to wages subject to income tax but not to FICA tax. If there are other employees, the IRS notice allows the same reporting for the S shareholder/employee thru 2015. After 2015, must be reported as wages for both income tax and FICA tax. If fewer than 50 employees, any reimbursement to employees for health insurance must not be required to pay for health insurance (and should not be considered as reimbursement for health insurance) and should be reported as income for both income tax and FICA tax. If there is a group plan compliant with ACA, then it can be treated as a nontaxable benefit as previously done. In preparing the upcoming W2, I understand that the S shareholder's W2 can be prepared as before, included in Box 1, but not in Boxes 3 and 5 (even if there are other employees). Is this how others understand this and will be approaching the 2015 W2s?
  25. I haven't installed yet. But I see several codes. Do I need to use the 5 concurrent users code when I'm just one person? I will be installing twice, on my office desktop and on my laptop?
