  1. The whole topic of the privileges and powers of juries is fascinating once you give it more than the most cursory of looks. Glad you found it informative!
  2. Don't forget to check out the "Fully Informed Jury Association" (fija dot org) for excellent info on juries and their rights, responsibilities, duties, and privileges. Those are significantly more substantial than judges and lawyers want you to know. Would LOVE to see you in Boston in Sept!
  3. Lion is right. I switched to Drake and really like it. That does NOT mean it's the right program for you.
  4. No swimming down, unaided, in air...
  5. ^ Not my circus, not my monkey.
  6. Synchronized. Think three-dimensional dancing. Synch swimming to Led Zeppelin
  7. Right here. I don't look good naked anymore
  8. Especially with the large amount and the federal regulations on large transfers, you should be able to make a case to waive at least part of the penalty. Good luck!
  9. It's probably still the case (I switched to Drake during the 2012 fiasco) that if you sync with EFC, all the e-files you had previously marked as "complete" get un-marked complete. So make a list of the real outstanding ones first and you can mark all and just unmark the one or two.
  10. I think I did. The client was an elderly man who thought he lost a checkbook and so called the bank to stop payment on a bunch of checks. One of them was for taxes... We sent a letter asking them to waive penalties, included a new certified check, gave all the details. They took the cash and (so far) we have had no correspondence asking for more money. But that was only two months ago, so we might still hear back.
  11. Margaret -- I think a lot of us saw the post - but did not answer because we did not have anything to share but sympathy. Which is nice, but not useful. Lion has the best idea; have them talk to the attorneys. Getting the same "I can't tell you" offloads YOU from being "the bad guy who won't help us" - which all by itself should be useful to you. Good luck!
  12. Here is a HUGE reason NOT to go to Windows 10 at this point; they need to fix this. Windows 10 password giveaway
  13. There is also the issue of folks you just have NO clue how to track income and expenses. This is especially true with ( 1 ) older folks who (for example) rent out part of a duplex they own, or ( 2 ) therapists or other "people not numbers" people (I have yet to have a therapist for a client who has not been through bankruptcy at LEAST once and usually more than once). They have no concept of tracking miles, of NOT using the business account for personal expenses or the personal account for business expenses... argh. And trying to get details; forget it. It's not that they are trying to obfuscate; they are truly clueless.
  14. Not so much; anarchy quickly reverts to an elementary school playground with no teachers. The biggest bullies take over and run the show.
  15. Posted because WE will be called upon to explain (and we have had threads about aspects of this recently). http://www.marketwatch.com/story/the-newest-obamacare-fail-penalties-of36500-per-worker-2015-07-23?siteid=nwtpm

  16. Thanks for the banana - it was delicious!
  17. I hope this does not apply to anyone here - but it may well apply to clients. This affects anyone who has ever applied for a sensitive job; I sent a link to the kid who worked for me three or four years ago who had applied for a job with the VA. http://www.infoworld.com/article/2941333/data-security/the-most-dangerous-data-heist-ever-known.html Truly nasty. It definitely affects my husband - and therefore, me and our girls as well since we are relatives and listed on Form 86.
  18. MF Global, where John Corzine oversaw the THEFT of billions of dollars of sacrosanct, legally-required-to-be-segregated customer funds (which he illegally used and lost). The courts not only backed this theft, but also backed the clawback of MORE money from those who lost everything to illegal activity.
  19. The squeals and screams would help me plan the next shot...
  20. Dog and owlet; best friends http://fellowshipoftheminds.com/2015/07/11/dog-and-owlet-are-best-friends/ I just have to edit this to include at least one of the wonderful pictures in this fascinating article

  21. And you are obviously paying *rapt* attention to the cpe program!
  22. For those who would like a chuckle, one of our very own Jack from Ohio's friends posted a picture on fb of him zonked out at an Ohio CPE class. He *claims* they were talking about worker's compensation issues, with an implication of it not being germane to his practice of taxation. I got a good chuckle out of the picture. And I wasn't spying - but possibly you, by reading this, are vicariously spying.
  23. I had a couple of panicked emails and calls from a client while I was on vacation -- fortunately she did an internet search *before* sending money. Then I got it's OK I figured it out and won't send them dough" email from her. I am SO glad she checked first.
  24. Considering the pain and fear - and the kind of threat used - I'd go for execution. But I'm mean and cannot abide those who terrorize others for fun and profit.
  25. Link didn't work BUT there was a note about "fixing the problem" so it might not be the link itself.
