  1. I just updated the forum template to include State field from your profile under your avatar, so now it's searchable through the Member Search, and also clearly visible on your posts.

  2. Excellent, glad to hear it. Thank you. I'm not going to complain--I'm just glad that they're putting real effort into improving standards compliance. If only they'd consider making improvements gradually that are quietly released over time instead of saving them for major version releases that go mostly ignored.

  4. Explain it as the reason you're paying more in taxes is because your income went up. I use it for my proofreading. And, I use it whenever a client asks why their balance due is more. And, I use it when making recommendations re next year's W/H or ES, such as they'll lose a dependent or is your bonus going to be more or CT or NY raised their rates again or.... It's one more tool in our arsenal and not just numbers. It's what it can tell us and our clients that's important.

  5. Hope you also downloaded the other cheat sheets: Quick Reference Guide Shortcut Keys If not they are also in the Drake 2013 manual (pdf format in the CD). Just print those pages you need.

  6. I've removed the "Location" profile field and put in place one for "State" which is a drop-down where you have to choose a state abbreviation. It is a required profile field and must be filled in for new member registrations. Making it a drop-down field instead of a free text box will make it much easier (and more reliable) to search in the Member profiles. Please click here to edit your profile information. Select your state near the bottom of the page.

  7. We have Drake up and running as well. Until a majority of the forms are available it will be difficult to truly determine if ATX has changed. As I have stated before I could care less about printing and editing client letters. Those are amateur issues compared to functionality.

  8. Had similar with the kids of several clients ---- Moved onus off me (keeps parents happy too --- so they don't get "miffed" and try someone else) by bringing into the tax conversation that -- hey, you're out of school, working , doing your own thing now, making better money, etc.; which they agreed to ---- and then just saying, something like "yup, your really an adult now, so when would you like to go into adult mode with real life fees, it moves you from the "kid - (because of tying into your parents, etc. -- I DO MENTION that fact)" fee to approximately X dollars which is real adult world or actually a bit less, as we've been doing this for a bunch of years, etc.? I can do this year as kid fee and we can move you to adult side next year or would you like to move up now? Either way is OK with me" Takes pressure off if they REALLY hadn't thought about it and saves them "face" if they did but were "using" my generously, etc. Only had a few - wait till next year as most stepped right up and agreed they were adults now. I hate to lose ANY clients I've had for more than a year, as originally I did my "weeding" the first year, if we didn't match or I wasn't willing to accept them, etc. Right now, I'm building but that was due to Medical - those that stayed with me, I'll actually "fight" to keep - they stepped up for me. About 7 of these are "kids" I did my "spill" with (parents stayed too).

  9. The ride in the small plane was the scariest part of the day! Well, that and watching the solo jumpers drop out of the plane. My instructor did all the work, so I was just along for the ride.

  10. Subject: "Do you love your husband?" this one struck me funny..... A group of women were at a seminar on how to live in a loving relationship with their husbands. The women were asked, "How many of you love your husband?" Of course, all the women raised their hands. Then they were asked, "When was the last time you actually told your husband you loved him?" Some women answered today, a few yesterday, and some couldn't remember. The women were then told to take out their cell phones and text their husband: "I love you, sweetheart." The women were then told to exchange phones with another person, (the women sitting next to them) and to read aloud to the group the text message they received in response. Here are some of the replies: 1. Who the hell is this? 2. Eh, mother of my children, are you sick or what? 3. Yeh, and I love you too. What's up with you?? 4. What now? Did you crash the car, again? 5. I don't understand what you mean? 6. What the hell did you do now? 7. ?!? 8. Don't beat about the bush, just tell me how much you need? 9. Am I dreaming? 10. If you don't tell me who this message is actually for, someone will die. 11. I thought we agreed you wouldn't drink during the day. 12. Your mother is coming to stay with us, isn't she??

  11. Thanx, Judy. I'm hoping my clients will like having a crazy tax lady, and that they'll be too afraid of me to complain about my fees!

  12. Eric, compared to the HUGE benefits we receive from your work providing this forum, a little down time is only a TINY TINY inconvenience. Thank You for all you do.

  13. Yep, me and my instructor in my first jump. It was my stepdaughter's third and my son's first. I was supposed to be celebrating my 65th birthday, but a couple of literal rain checks and scheduling the three of us working folks meant I was past 66 by the time we jumped in October. It was cold with the wind rushing past at 115-120 miles/hour; next time I'm wearing ear plugs and a stocking cap! I think this place (Connecticut Parachutists in Ellington, CT) closed in November for the winter. My stepdaughter's birthday present to me was the videographer who jumped with me and recorded it all, from suiting up with my kids to the smiles afterward: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKxp9APHBVw&feature=youtube_gdata_player
