  1. Before you do anything Monday morning, make sure your Windows updates are totally current. The ransomware attacks that occurred the last several days went after known holes in all Windows OS prior to Win 10. Microsoft issued updates back in March that closed some of the holes and more updates that will now close the rest of the holes.

  6. And don't you just hate it when things are thrown in that are unneeded but really important stuff (as advertised and listed on my renewal form) are left out to be obtained separately. I am in a not very nice back and forth again really angry that online and on my renewal form ATX advertises for ATX MAX Package, "Unlimited individual and business e-file returns for preparing federal, state, and municipal forms." Except one has to purchase a separate Ohio package to efile RITA returns. And more municipalities are going to RITA annually. What is it about the English language that WK cannot understand about '(u)nlimited individual and business e-file returns ...municipal forms?' RITA forms are for municipal returns. I believe this is false advertising and am just so annoyed. And it isn't even listed on my renewal form. One might think, with an Ohio address, that I just might need or use that software. Grrr...

  7. What SaraEA posted to. Had a phone call on April 12th. Referred by a good client. Can't figure out the education credits. TT is not helpful. (Duh!) She had spent 2 hours collecting her info, but had spent 4 hours messing around with TT. I told her: "You poor woman... what is your time worth?" She is coming in next month for a full consultation. That is getting on top of it.

  8. I have found that many folks who have struggled with doing their own taxes and finally give up and seek a pro are amazed about how smoothly and quickly the process goes. They often decide that all the painful hours they spent on the thing isn't worth their time, plus they walk out feeling confident their return is correct. They become long-term clients. I had one last year who had multiple PTPs plus some inherited annuities and a trust K-1. He had spent days on his return before he came to me. I charged $1,000. He came back this year and said he and his wife would have killed one another if they tried to tackle it again. He had sold 14 of the 15 PTPs, so I charged him $1,500 with an assurance that next year's price will be much lower. I'm willing to bet he returns.
