  1. And here is one version of an old story. WARNING: potty-mouth terms used as you get farther in. Password reset A man was was unable to log into his online banking account and he pulled up the online chat support. "I put in my password and I cannot access my account" "Sorry that password has expired - you must register a new one." "Did anyone discover that password and hack my computer?" "No, but your password has expired - you must get a new one." "Why then do I need a new one as that one seems to be working pretty well?" "Well, you must get a new one as they automatically expire every 90 days." "Can I use the old one and just re-register it?" "No, you must get a new one." "I don't want a new one as that is one more thing for me to remember." "Sorry, you must get a new one." "OK, roses." "Sorry you must use more letters." "OK, pretty roses" "No good, you must use at least one numerical character." "OK, 1 pretty rose" "Sorry, you cannot use blank spaces." "OK, 1prettyrose" "Sorry, you must use additional characters." "OK, 1fuckingprettyrose" "Sorry, you must use at least one capital letter." "OK,1FUCKINGprettyrose" "Sorry, you cannot use more than one capital letter in a row." "OK, 1Fuckingprettyrose" "Sorry, you cannot use that password as you must use additional letters." "OK, 1Fuckingprettyroseshovedupyourassifyoudon'tgivemeaccessrightfuckingnow" "Sorry, you cannot use that password as it is already being used"

  2. a while back, after much frustration i changed my Oxford insurance password to "thisisb*s*f*koxford" all spelled out. Well one day my secretary had to deal with them on an issue and they asked her for the password verbally. Boy was she embarrassed to say it over the phone.

  3. Yes, him and everyone else in the tech business. Too much turnover, new versions, paying for it over and over. I think all updates should be free for at least 5 years. QB can only go back one version for Accountants Copy. A new version every year. Sheesh. More whistles and bells that most people don't need. An army of programmers thinking up more and more stuff.

  4. I was talking about a 1040 with a K1 input form. The 1120S basis always calcs but you have to check a box at the top of the K1 to print it. Basis should be mandatory so we don't have to opt in.

  5. I have a second fake ERO with the EFIN 111111 and I put that in and then I change it back to my normal efin. I use the "Insert Preparer/ERO on Return" to this

  6. Yes, I think I will boldface that quote and imbed it in the letter that goes to the executors of all the estates I do this year. They will be so impressed that they won't notice the lost deduction. Taxman, see the instructions for Line 16. Excess deductions on termination are not on the list of allowable entries. Because the FY ends in 2018, expenses go on the beneficiaries' 2018 returns, which have no place for them anymore. Interesting that IRS is considering this though. You might want to put this return on extension to see what happens (if the Bs agree).

  7. We don't blame microsoft nearly enough when we have problems. Still slays me that Gates became a billionaire selling this crap!

  8. Michaelmars...I'm sorry you're having issues, but it is nice to see confirmation that other programs have hiccups as well, not just ATX. As I've stated previously in this post, ATX is working well for me and has worked well over the past several years. Let's hope our respective programs have the bugs worked out and we have a smooth rest of the season.

  9. Haven't been able to print with proseries all season, they post the usual bs response that its our computers. Its a 32bit issue, I have 64 bit, so then its a 64bit issue but with a different fix than the 32bit fix they posted. You all know the drill, its your system, its your anti-virus, its another program causing it. Then they log into mine and say, wow you could run nasa with your equipment. Now finally 3/9 they state that they tracked the issue as a microsoft issue and microsoft will have an update 3/19. Luckily i have been able to print to pdf and then print. Bottom line, all software is having issues this year and customer service is just "cover out butts" service. By the way, even lacerte which i also use isn't calculating the 8990 which is holding up all of our real estate returns. I think we sent out about 50 of our 2000 returns. Biggest issue will be a very busy summer and lack of cash flow now.

  10. I had my PTIN many years before I was an EA. Could it be that timing that meant I didn't need fingerprints?

  13. This appears to be caused by using a blank template return that you duplicate for new clients. Every one ends up with the same SID. If anyone knows how to generate a new SID without having to efile and then have it rejected, I'd sure like to know! Thanks!

  14. Passing this along as an FYI. This chart provides a listing of States that still require a separate signature form besides just the Federal 8879. https://support.cch.com/kb/solution.aspx/sw37113
