  1. That's because your PDF viewer (e.g., Adobe) options are set to open bookmarks by default. Change that setting.

  3. Where does it say that they are not perrmanently disabled? If they are receiving SS Disability, it is not taxable earned income and the girl can be claimed as a dependent. It sounds as though the EIC would be pretty minimal in any case. OP doesn't state whether the Female's income is earned or SS Disability. This is a convoluted case.

  4. Our local office (Tallahassee) closed awhile back but I recently found out it had reopened (in a new location). You used to be able to walk in and talk to an agent in about five minutes, even take your docs there and they'd do your tax return for you. Hard to believe.

  5. Judy, your post and experience are greatly appreciated on this board. I agree with you that if OP involves E&P he needs to dig much further, sorry my last reply was not clearer.

  6. I am so glad that I don't have to deal much with current stuff, but I am still dealing with 2023 letters from my terrible, rotten 2024. My 96 year old dad just passed away two weeks ago after being hospitalized with Influenza A, I had to have my knee manipulated for the second time in the OR, (this one actually worked and my range of motion is pretty good) and today I found out that a bone implant from 4 years ago has failed. I am not going through that again. I can't deal with it here, because we are finally moving to Littleton, CO on 4/2. Our new grandson will be born on 3/10 as long as he is not as difficult as his father was. We are over the moon about being close to them and we have a mountain view! One of my clients received a "we need 60 more days to research" from the first request that I sent and received a second 60 day letter last week. I don't expect it to get much better. I feel sorry for them. Morale has to be pretty low. I really hope that I don't end up getting a tax job in Colorado, but I am starting to worry about the part time job market for older workers. I miss you guys, but have not have much time to hang out here. Everyone hang in there and take care. Bonnie

  7. Expect pain, threats of jail time and a HUGE bill for taxes, penalties and interest. In other words, financial ruin.

  8. If it's been the 21 days and client calls me about their refund, I'm going to tell them to make phone calls to their Rep and both Senators.

  10. I had a personal relationship with our local agent before they closed a few years ago. I could walk in and discuss issues with her and she would also call me with questions or about forms. The last time I went there, there was an armed officer sitting there to screen you before you got in. It closed shortly after that. Sweet memories. When it was a source of pride to be a tax preparer.

  11. Per the AP: "The IRS is drafting plans to cut as much as half of its 90,000-person workforce". It also sounds like the major cuts are coming in May, not now. When we get the IRS letters in August, we are going to be spending some serious time on hold.

  12. "Internal Revenue Service: More than 110 IRS offices that handle taxpayer assistance will be closed, according to a plan from the U.S. General Services Administration obtained by The Washington Post, as the Trump administration began layoffs of about 7,000 workers in mid-February, at the peak of tax season, multiple outlets reported."
