    Donated time?

Haha well thanks for the information. I don't really have a business for doing this stuff on the side, I just somehow get roped into doing these things. I've never itemized before, filed a Sch C, etc etc etc, although I may attempt to do that this year. And if I do decide to make an effort to file more than my usual very basic tax return, I'm going to pay someone else to do it for sure. Especially after reading this thread. Idunno how you people do it.

    Donated time?

So saying I'm donating computer software worth $2000 is not correct? When I say computer software, I mean the chunk of code that is their online bill pay system, for example.
  3. So here goes. I'm a computer nerd, not a tax geek, so this may be common sense to you guys. I'm working on a website, brand new from scratch, for a local hospital. They're a non-profit. I've been working on this site for more than 5 months. The project has grown far beyond what it started out as, and I'm not getting paid a lot for it. (I'm not sour about this, I just really want to be able to finish it before I go nuts.) My question is this: I've been (loosely) tracking my hours. They're paying me for the project, not hourly. If you figure my hourly rate multiplied by the time invested, the difference is roughly $2000 and growing by the day. Can I claim that difference somehow as a donation to the organization? EDIT: Please, no fancy tax talk, pretend you're talking to one of your clients. One of your "slow" clients. :P
  4. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, I've been ridiculously busy redoing a local hospital's website. Try this in IE7: 1. Tools > Internet Options > Privacy 2. Click Sites If you see atxcommunity.com anywhere in the Managed websites list, remove it before moving to the next step. 3. Under Address of website type http://www.atxcommunity.com 4. Click Allow 5. Click OK Hopefully, after you do this, your username/password will be remembered after the next time you log in.
  5. The web browser on your new laptop is probably blocking the cookie. It's remembering the fields for the login form allowing the information to auto-complete when you start typing, but that's different from the cookie. Somewhere in your browser settings there is a place to tell it not to block cookies from this website. If you can't find it, let me know what web browser and version, and I should be able to tell you how to get there.

    Yep, that's right
  7. I just checked and confirmed that none of them went through. I'm not sure why you're receiving the error message, though.
  8. nope, I don't believe it's possible, although I could probably run a SQL query if you're really curious

The photo you added shows up in your profile, but your avatar is what shows up under your name when you post. See "Edit Avatar Settings" in your control panel. EDIT: Beaten!

    Just Curious

I haven't changed anything, but I think I can explain the difference in the numbers. I did a quick check, and it looks like the total at the bottom of the front page is the total number of registered members. Right now, there are 10 people who have started the registration process, but have not yet validated their e-mail address. These people are not counted in the total because they can't yet log in and post, although you can see their usernames in the list of Members. Members who do not validate their email within 30 days will be deleted automatically by the system. And yes, you can trust that Newest Member feature.
  11. I think if you go back 3-5 pages in General Chit-Chat, you'll see more of those "How Do You Handle" discussions, as those topics were created in the last week or two of the tax season.
  12. You're very welcome, I'm glad you like the format ^_^
  13. I've disabled the stronghold cookie. I'd remove any atxcommunity.com related cookies and then try to log in.. let me know if there's any improvement.
  14. Well, i misspoke. There are multiple cookies, but they all do come from www.atxcommunity.com Their names are: coppa pass_hash member_id session_id ipb_stronghold modids forum_read topicsread There may be more than that for certain functions, but I'm not sure. I'm wondering if you're having trouble with the ipb_stronghold cookie, which contains encrypted geographical data. Its function is to make cookie stealing almost impossible, but anyone who has trouble with it for whatever reason would have to log in more than usual. If you can verify that the ips_stronghold cookie is getting set but you're still having issues, let me know. I'd prefer to leave it enabled for added security, but if it's causing problems, I will disable it.
  15. I've closed the poll. Thanks to those who voted!
  16. The board is trying to set two cookies.. if you're only getting one of them, this could be the problem. Is there way you can whitelist atxcommunity.com so that all cookies are always accepted by your browser?
  17. That at least narrows things down a bit. I'll see if I can download the AOL browser and duplicate the problem.
  18. So if you were to close the browser, and then re-open it, and come back to www.atxcommunity.com, it would ask for you to login again? (can you test that for me?) You could also try deleting the cookie and clearing your browser cache, and then try logging in again to see if that fixes it.

I never noticed this thread when it was posted. I think the best way to do this here would be to create a "Files" forum. All topics in that forum could be used for posting attachments that would be useful to others. You could even send the files to me, and I could post them up so it doesn't use up your attachment space. Tags/Keywords could be added to the topics so that they can be found more easily using the forum's search function.
  20. This was brought up once before: http://www.atxcommunity.com/index.php?showtopic=97
  21. Here is the forum Help, which can be searched: http://www.atxcommunity.com/index.php?act=Help for BB Code, there is a button labeled "BB Code Help" when replying.. this tells you how to use the BB Code markup, although it's not usually necessary to manually type it. The editor buttons at the top do an alright of generating the BB Code for you. (you can highlight some text and hit the "b" button, and it'll add the BB Code to make that text bold) If you want to test out the features and make some test posts, you're welcome to do that in the Website Discussion forum. Go ahead and create a new topic called "Test" and mess around with the features to get to learn them. You can't break anything, so don't worry about making a mess.. just keep it in the Website Discussion forum. If you still have questions after tinkering with the features, ask in the Website Discussion forum, and I'll do my best to answer them.
  22. Let windows manage your virtual memory: 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click the System icon. 3. In the System Properties window, click the Performance tab. 4. Under Advanced settings, click Virtual Memory. 5. In the Virtual Memory box, verify that the Let Windows Manage my Virtual Memory Settings check box is selected. Above steps taken from the following ATX Knowledgebase document: http://techkb.atxforms.com/TSTKB.nsf/0/31d...09?OpenDocument Also, you'll want to make sure you have plenty of free hard drive space. If you're running low on hard drive space, Windows can't expand the size of your page file (virtual memory). If you've got an older computer, you may want to consider adding RAM (actual memory) so that it can be utilized instead of virtual memory. (using virtual memory is much slower)
  23. Changing the board layout in the middle of tax season may not be a welcome change, even if it is beneficial. Duplicate posts in different areas (cross posting) clutters things up and makes it difficult to follow the discussion. When I catch it, I'll combine them into one thread, replies and all. The Community is defined by the people and personalities that make it up, not the software we use to do our jobs. Besides, even if I did want to keep non-ATXers out, I have no way to verify who are ATX customers and who are not.
  24. It's very easy for me to organize things any way you guys like.. the hard part is coming to a consensus. So you guys discuss it, and then we can put up a poll and vote. :D
  25. Once it's uploaded, it'll show up in that little drop down list (Manage Current Attachments) in the upload section (for that post only) Click the drop down list, and then click that little-paper-with-green-plus-sign icon to insert the attachment into your post. It'll look like this: To delete the attachment, use the little-paper-with-red-x icon.
