  1. http://www.intodns.com/atxcommunity.com I believe everything is working as it should be now. Of the three warnings that the above site lists, two of them are quite common, and the other doesn't really matter at this point. I will change the SOA expire time to 3 weeks instead of 5 though. RCooper: Let me know if you still have trouble getting to the site from your office in another day or so. It can take these settings a while to reach everyone's ISP.
  2. Oh no, it's my stinking domain registrar that's creating more work for me. And it looks like I was wrong about the down-time, sorry about that everyone. Hopefully this will be solved for good once DNS propagation completes this time around.
  3. It appears that my domain registrar continues to have problems. I have never had problems like this, and I'm tired of dealing with this company, so I'm going to change nameservers until I am able to transfer my domains to a new registrar. It takes up to 48 hours for these changes to propagate throughout the internet. Once propagation is complete, the problems should go away. (I don't expect any downtime)
  4. What exactly do you get at your office? Is it a note saying the community has moved?

    Remote access

There is free VPN software out there, for example: http://www.tightvnc.com/ or http://openvpn.net/ But unless you or a family member is technically inclined, I would suggest hiring someone to set it up since security needs to be taken very seriously.

    MEMORY TEST

The headlines are retarded. I think what's wrong with the economy is that there was a long period where "Every five seconds of every working day, somebody buys a new Chevrolet!" Detroit got pretty comfortable with the bulk of Americans buying crap that they couldn't afford like they're entitled to luxury. Shake that MasterCard money tree! You deserve to have nice things! Unfortunately, our government has the same adolescent view of money management. Sorry about the off topic rant, I'll exercise some restraint and shut up.

    I haven't got any idea.

    MEMORY TEST

I knew the answers to these ones: 7. C - Pants On Fire 10. E - Oh My 16. G - John, Paul, George, Ringo 18. B - Cause I eats me spinach 20. F - Melt In Your Mouth Not In Your Hand Most of the rest I hadn't even heard of. (I'll be 29 next month)
  9. Please send me an email eric dot brissette at gmail dot com My domain registrar has had some problems, and it may be keeping a few people from accessing the forums properly. I've been speaking to them about it over the past week, and hope to have it corrected soon. For the more technical: DNS propagation is not happening correctly for one of my nameservers.
  10. The move is complete. If I suggest doing this again, someone slap me. If anyone has any trouble staying logged in, I suggest logging out, clearing your cache and cookies, and logging back in.
  11. When I say almost even, I mean the two old hosting accounts will cost about the same as the one new one, give or take a few bucks. Keep in mind that this site isn't the reason for the move, my other sites are. There is plenty in the PayPal account to continue paying for this site's portion of resources for a while, but the donations are appreciated. Sometime this weekend, you may see that the forum is in maintenance mode. It can take up to 24 hours for the switch to complete, but it's usually less. I'm sorry about the disruption, but the new home will provide lots of growing room.
  12. No! no more money! By consolidating my two hosting accounts into one larger account, I'll be coming out almost even as far as monthly hosting bills go.
  13. I have taken on a bunch of website hosting customers and am beginning to outgrow my two current hosting providers. There is a good chance that I will be moving all of my sites to a to a single beefy server located at an ultra-beefy data center. The move will happen, the question is when. (don't worry, it wont be during tax season) Is the board sufficiently slow right now that this would be a good time to do it? Should I wait until after tax season? This should be the last time I have to do this (at least, it better be, it's almost as fun as moving into a new house)
  14. Our stray has accumulated thousands in vet bills. He's had chest taps. He's had ultrasounds and x-rays. He was on meds.. six pills a day for a couple years until I decided to ween him off to see what would happen. He's the most loving and affectionate cat I've ever met. Constantly purring, on our laps, following us around the house, and in between me and anything else I might be trying to focus on. We've also got one from a pet store.. he's a bit of a snob. He's decided that he owns the place, and we're the pets. Much too smart for his own good. Then there's the one we got at the shelter.. the only one of the bunch that kills mice and moles. He's affectionate as long as you're willing to pet him, otherwise he'd rather be killing things in the basement and leaving their heads/kidneys/tails around for us to find. We live in an old farm house in the middle of fields and trees, so there's no shortage of rodent parts. We've still got all three, and it's all I can do to keep my wife from bringing home more. "We need an orange one!" she'll say.
  15. I find those droppers much worse than giving the pills. I had to give one of my cats amoxicillin from a dropper twice a day for 7 days. Pink froth would come out the sides of his mouth, and he'd shake his head violently covering every surface within 10 feet in a fine pink sticky mist. I considered wrapping the cat in bacon and tossing him in the air for the dog.

  17. Honestly, I can't understand how people can get excited enough over the two major candidates in this election to buy bumper stickers and put signs on their lawn. I still haven't decided who I'm voting for. In the past, I've voted Libertarian, but am leaning more toward the Constitution Party candidate this time around. I'm one of those crazy people who is all about personal AND economic freedom, which apparently has become quite rare--we're expected to choose between the two. I wont go into any detail about my political views right now though.. those discussions always seem to get noisy, and I don't want to derail Monkeyman's thread. (feel free to start a new one, though)
  18. I hear VMS recently got a fairly large contract and might be hiring, is that true? My brother may be applying for job there.

I've added the extra question to the registration form. Do you think that the wording above is clear enough?

    Spam

I just thought of an additional method to keep out automated spam bots, and possibly even human spammers from other countries. I could add a question to the forum's registration form, such as "What four digit number is associated with the federal individual income tax form?" People registering for this forum wouldn't have any trouble getting the answer right, but automated bots wouldn't know what to put there.

    Spam

A group of people in Russia have released a new version of their software which allows spammers to bypass spam protections in all kinds of websites.. even Google and Microsoft's spam protections have been cracked. This allows an automated process to go and register for forums and blogs and email accounts to spread enormous amounts of garbage very quickly. I've banned 9 IP address ranges and a few e-mail domains which has blocked many, but not all of them. The company who makes the forum software has released an update tonight that will hopefully fix the mess, which I will install tomorrow. Not sure if it'll do the trick or not, we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm sorry about all of the trouble we're having with spam at the moment, and wanted to let you all know that it's not limited to us. Many other forums and blogs are having the same trouble right now. I'm going to shut the forum down for a couple hours tomorrow to make a few changes. After that, unfortunately, I'll be gone for the weekend without much in the way of internet access. I'm thinking about suspending new forum registrations during that time to keep the filth out... what do you folks think?
