  1. The school financial aid forms I have seen ask if form 1040A was filed, and if not, it asks if 1040A COULD have been filed. Apparently, if income is received that can't be put on a 1040A, it disqualifies the person from receiving the aid but if that type of income is not received, they don't care if a 1040 was used. There are probably exceptions, but apparently they use that as a guideline.
  2. You'll find it at www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p2043.pdf
  3. Looks like Florida lawmakers are more interested in protecting bad check writers than they are in protecting the victims.
  4. I can't remember the last time I used a 1040A or 1040EZ.
  5. From what I have been reading, ANY customer service would be better.
  6. I would like to be kept in the loop. I couldn't do any more than be a small investor, but pennies do add up. I believe the vast majority of former ATX users would buy the software if there is some way of letting them know about it. Gene
  7. Another way to look at it is that the taxpayer received income in the form of a service of having an unwanted building removed from his property for free. He had cleanup expense after the house was burned, but the expense of having the house torn down and moved probably would have been greater. Just my thoughts on the matter. Gene
  8. I don't understand. Mine updated several days ago and all the information from last year is on it. I wonder if the weather in Alabama has anything to do with it. Or maybe, being close to Rome, Georgia might have some affect. Gene
  9. You're not thinking about a tax write-off are you? (grin)
  10. Just click on the add forms icon and type "comparison" in the search box and select the one you want.
  11. JB, KC and MAMalody gave you VERY good advice. You cannot do better than follow it. What she learns from this experience will affect her the rest of her life. Sometimes the right thing to do is extremely hard to do, but it pays. Gene
  12. Can't get much better than that, unless they start paying you to use their product.
  13. I just realized what I did wrong. I opened the W2 1040 worksheet instead of the W2/W2C form. Sorry about that. Gene
  14. I prepared a W2 form and tried to print it and it doesn't show on the print menu. All I get is the info sheet and summary sheet and detail sheet, but not the W2 itself. Am I missing something, or is the form not ready to print yet? Gene
  15. I would really rather think about the money rolling in and forget about the workload.
  16. I don't ever use the 1040A. I can prepare a 1040 a whole lot faster than I can a 1040A because I am a lot more familiar with it. I don't see any advantage of the 1040A over the 1040. I don't charge by the form. I charge according to how much time I spend on the return and it's to my client's advantage that I use the form I am familiar with.
  17. Betty Sue and Jerome made so much money doing taxes that they got married and moved to Hawaii to live happily ever after. Maybe Mel can look them up and give us an update. Janitor Bob, it sure is good to see that you have picked your life back up and things are going much better for you. I wish great happiness for you. Gene
  18. I always miss the opportunity for extra business.
  19. I like that! Wish I had thought of that. I always find a good answer after the fact.
  20. One of my clients who has a boat sales dealership here in Alabama went to Gatlinburg, Tenn for a vacation and said he passed out some business cards while there. He wanted to know if he could deduct the expenses for the trip as advertising. He was serious about the question.
  21. If I remember correctly, ATX has suggested in the past that it was OK to share programs for years past. There has even been much discussion on the old ATX board about who had what programs and if anyone would send a copy. Of course CCH probably has a different policy, but I don't know if it could go back to programs that ATX produced before CCH was involved. If it is against ATX or CCH policy to share old programs, then I certainly won't do it. Maybe Monkeyman can enlighten us. Gene
  22. Bardon, I had to do some digging, but I found disks for those years. The disks I found aren't the latest version, but I don't guess it will matter since you won't be efiling them. I guess I can just copy them and they will work, I don't guess they have done anything funny that keeps them from being copied. Private mail me and give me your address and I will sent them to you. The earliest year I have on my computer is 1998 because anything earlier won't work on this computer, so I don't know if these will be of any help to you or not. I'm not a very computer smart guy, so maybe you can tell me what to do to get you good copies. If it is just a matter of copying from one disk to another, I can do that. Gene
  23. I had trouble connecting a fax and answering machine on the same line, so I subscribed to ring master with my telephone company. I have two phone numbers but one line. One long ring is for my phone and two short rings is for the fax. The fax machine recognizes the two short rings and I don't have to do anything at all when a fax comes in. Works great even when I'm not here. I don't remembe the cost, but it wasn't much. I now have a package deal on my phone where everything is included in one price. This is about, I believe, my third fax machine since I got ring master and they all have worked fine. Gene
