  1. I have one of these I just finished yesterday with almost the same scenario, parents income over 100K, 22 y.o. daughter graduated college in May 2012 and earned about $14K. Turns out like NECPA said, the daughter is saving for a house and saved almost everything she earned last year.
  2. I just posted in the other thread. It took 30-45 secs to open the page, then that same amount of time to open any thread. Now it seems to be functioning at normal speed.
  3. My client's husband died in early 2011 and he had a revocable trust that the wife was the beneficiary of. The wife transferred all of the stock holdings into her name in mid 2011. The trust primarily had investments in foreign stock. FF to 2012 when one foreign company paid out dividends to stockholders of record from either 2010 or early 2011. The 1099-DIV is in the name of the deceased husband's trust using his social security number and it also has foreign taxes paid on it. Since the wife ended up with the dividend income I don't have a problem reporting this amount on her return, but what about the foreign taxes? Will this automatically generate a notice since the IRS won't be able to match up the amount reported on the return with the 1099s?
  4. Reading some of the posts over there on the official forum is like watching a train wreck in slow motion. A lot of those users live by the philosophy that they don't need to know about tax law, that's what the program is for.
  5. Hey, I'm an ASP alumni and went several years as a youth and then 2 years as one of our group's leaders. That's a great group you are working with!
  6. lol I saw that! BoobyinNJ can't let it anything go and must have the last word. Kimmie answered a question or two of mine, but she has yet to respond to the timing of my refund and flat out ignored my post about their work that will occur over the coming weeks to solve the stability and performance issues where I told her that the preparers don't have weeks to wait. She also had no comment about their refund policy where if a user asks for a refund at any time in their account history, that will forever preclude that person from ever asking for a refund again. Why would I ever consider purchasing from them again if they happened to put out another year's software as horrible as this was, that I would be risking those funds without the ability to recoup my losses. I guess CCH doesn't have any propaganda on that one yet. Kimmie did cancel one person's refund request. Did you see that one yesterday where the user asked for a refund because everyone seemed to be doing it and hoped it didn't "mess everything up"! When I asked if she had other software in place to use going forward and point out to her that she'd lose the ability to efile and update the program and its forms, this user's response was "Oh CRAP!". Kimmie did step in and cancelled it so her account wouldn't be shut down. SMH at that one!
  7. Sorry, it's an item that will show up on line 17d of Sch K and on the K-1 in box 17. The system should be generating a statement attached to the K-1 for the shareholder to report his or her share of the transaction on the 4797.
  8. Good eyes on the date. Maybe CCH thinks if they push the date to 3/31 and keep stringing people users limping along, that those users will say WTH and keep using the program through 4/15. Could be a smart move by them.
  9. I happen to like Colbert and sometimes think he's funny. The picture just reminded me of him, that is all.
  10. lol, sorry I missed the poem and other stuff. Oh, I know what you mean about BoobyInNJ.
  11. Someone over there didn't like that I said the new president, Jason Marx, looks like Steven Colbert. Is your "updateritis" post still up?
  12. With some users reporting that data is disappearing from returns and some have noticed that the efile created by the system differs from the signed 8879, did you go back into the return to verify that the 8863 was actually transmitted with the efiled return?
  13. ^ only for now. They will eventually want all the users to be running the latest version of the software.
  14. If you are preparing the S corp return, the loss should be showing up on 4797. Are you preparing the personal return? The sec 179 may be suspended if the taxpayer does not have sufficient basis in the S corp. It will stay suspended until basis is restored to the point of being able to absorb the loss. Make sure to enter the basis information so the system has enough data to perform the proper calculations.
  15. Jason Marx is the new president of CCHSFS. From several days ago: http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/Gramlich-resigns-from-cch-sfs-65790-1.html?taxpro I saw a picture of Jason Marx posted over on the official board. It's since been removed but it made me laugh because he looks like Steven Colbert when Steven makes his serious/sarcastic face, and now that's all I can picture when I hear about the leadership at ATX. lol
  16. Yes, the payroll compliance program works really well and sends what it's supposed to. At least CCH didn't screw that part up. Don't worry if the ack takes longer to come back than you think. I've had some that came back in 3 days and others took 6 days depending on when ATX actually transmits the files from the EFC to IRS and gets the acks back.
  17. Joel, did you request a refund? I put my request in yesterday. My salesperson no longer works for the company, and it seemed to me it was this new person's duty to get me to say that my business hadn't been harmed or lost revenue because of the ATX software. No, I didn't lose revenue because I'm a professional and my clients will never be made aware of the problems simply because I purchased other software that works. All I wanted was to request my refund. This new salesman proceeded to tell me that my clients should be willing to wait it out for the time it takes for ATX to resolve their programming issues, and that it is a sad reflection on the state of America that people aren't willing to stand by me while I wait for ATX to sort this out! Really, he said that almost exactly word for word to me. I told him in no uncertain terms that *I* am not willing to make my clients to wait due to the ATX program's shortcomings when other working software is available to me! (Not to mention that I don't get revenue in until I complete the work!) Then he told me I must return the books. I did because it *is* part of their refund policy, but Kimmie Manuel stated on the official forum that it wasn't necessary because they won't do anything with those books. Oy! What a waste of time and dollars. I'm wondering just how long they'll allow me to have access to the forum. Maybe I'll be banned soon too. So I don't have to retype, here's a cut-and-paste of why I'd hesitate to purchase ATX again in future: Kimmie, one of the problems I have with thinking of ever using ATX again is the policy that says if I've *ever* asked for a refund in my entire history with your company, that I'll never be entitled to another one. I understand that some users might abuse the refund, but you do subtract a cost of use @ $20 per return filed, so it's not like the person requesting the refund is getting a totally free ride. I've been a LOYAL ATX user since almost the very beginning when Glynn Willett and his brother started the company in Maine. ATX was a great program and wonderful value for the product that it was. Someday it may be a great product again, but it certainly was a disaster this year for a lot of users. Each year I'd renew with the early discount, but after what happened with the ATX program and the ongoing troubles, I'll probably never renew early again, no matter what company's software I purchase. I would like to think that someday if the ATX program is once again a viable product, that I may think about using it again. However, with your current *no refund ever again* policy, that pretty much puts a damper on my considering any of your company's products in future. Why would anyone would risk purchasing a product from anyone, software or otherwise, if that purchaser had no chance of a satisfaction guarantee if the product turned out to be as defective as this year's ATX program was when it was released and still continues to have a multitude of problems a full two months later? Does CCHSFS have any plan to relax this policy in future since this year's product failed to live up to all the hype and promises of improvements? Then, this was in that same thread: Kimmie1201: Our development team continues to focus on stability and performance enhancements to be delivered over the next weeks. We also recognize the frustration you are experiencing, which was definitely not in the plans. Me: This comment is rather disturbing and a large part of the reason for putting in my request for a refund. At almost March 1st, your team is still working on stability and performance issues, and will be continuing that focus over the coming weeks!? While my nontax-related work extends well beyond April, for many preparers here their season ends in 6 weeks. You team is running out of time to fix this for them. Sorry for the rant. I feel better now. lol
  18. Me three! I have to do this anyway because Delaware is a state that allows an individual to itemize on the state return even if using the standard for the federal return.
  19. Is there a limit on the amount of "likes" per day?
  20. I remember seeing that post. I was only wondering which post it was that had been deleted.
  21. Rita, whatever that link was for, it can't be found now. What was it?
  22. To add to this Joel, when the Drake support hasn't had an answer for my state-specific questions, they have called back with the answers every single time and have worked with me on some oddball situations and how best to input these. My latest call was on my own personal return that was rejected by the state of PA. Turns out that their software was showing a leading zero followed by a decimal point and six digits following the decimal point on a line that calc'd a percentage. However, when it was transmitted, the decimal point wasn't being sent and PA was rejecting because 7 digits isn't acceptable to PA's system. Yes, this was an error that they will needed to correct to transmit this particular PA form for anyone using it, and the correction will be an update, but the support person actually called me back to tell me of their error and to assure me that a fix is in the works. That's a far cry from CCH's customers being on hold all day, being hung up on, and never receiving replies to messages left and emails sent.
  23. On some forums and websites, it's against the TOU to post someone's direct contact information without their permission, and even though most of what I provided to you is available on CCH's website, Kimmie's email is not. I just make it my own general policy to not post someone else's information without asking them first, so that's why I sent it to you in a PM.
  24. Someone posted Kimmie's email address on the official board earlier this month. I'll send it to you in an PM.
