Ultratax indicated to me that they would acknowledge former TRX users of Tax Works. We are still in discussion stage however they are aware of the Tax Works product that was provided us by TRX as well as the pricing. I am awaiting a call from their sales people to further discuss and will let you know as I hear. Ultratax is charging former Tax Works users the same price that they last paid for the software guaranteed for 3 years. I did in fact stress to them that time is of the essence as many software companies offer early discounts. I will keep all posted. Mike Dubin CPA

I met the Ultratax group representing former Tax Works users at the NY Accounting and Technology Show May 2, 2013. I presented them with the following set of facts and circumstances: Many former TRX users as well as many other small practices would be very interested in Ultratax. The price range that most were paying was between $299 & $699. The last product that was considered acceptable from TRX was 2011 Tax Works 1040 which was a watered down version of the full Tax Works suite. I was advised that they would be interested in discussing further and will contact me directly. I have previously attempted to create a listing of those of us that would be interested in pursuing this solution. To date I have received 20 inquiries, including myself. I am certain that there are many additional hundreds of practices out there that for the right product and price would be interested as well. The higher the number of potential customers, the greater the leverage we have for pricing. I plan on discussing any options with Ultratax and once I am clear that they are serious I will post the name of the representative to contact should you be interested. In my opinion Ultratax is the best tax software product available on the market today, albeit one of the most expensive! They are now offering a fixed price to all former Tax Works users at the same rate that they last paid for 3 full years. Wouldn’t it be great if we could actually contract with the company directly and not have to concern ourselves with which software will we be using next year? Thanks to all. Mike Dubin CPA

I can't believe that H & R Bloch sold this company. They had such a stake in it and on many occasions opined that they are not for sale! I guess a combination of 2012 fiasco along with the right price convinced them? This doesn't bode well for my plan to negotiate directly with them for 2013, however maybe I can convince their successors to listen? I received an email this morning regarding my early renewal of Taxwise through Mainstreet Software. The total was approx. $700 or double what I paid for 2012. I for one am not a fan of Taxwise. It is extremely user unfriendly, has very few bells and whistles and the e filing leaves alot to be desired. I will be seeking out new software, focusing on TaxWorks. I will keep all posted on my progress. Almost finished for the season with few extensions. Best to all for the end of 2012 tax season. Mike Dubin CPA

I agree with Taxed with a few exceptions. I have attempted in the past to solicit all whom would be interested in procuring TaxWorks at a favorable price and received at best 10 responses. As you point out there could be hundreds if not thousands that would potentially participate however my suggestion of emailing all who have posted on this board in the past would no doubt reach many more than 10? In addition I do already have the attention of an executive at TaxWorks whom I have had numerous dialogues with in the past. If we can muster even 100 interested parties I am confident that I couls convince TaxWorks to make us an offer that we all can't refuse! Thanks Mike Dubin CPA

Eric, Is it possible to send an email to all who participated on the TRX and Taxwjse boards? My reson for this request is that I would like to know exactly how many of us would consider TaxWorks for 2013 at the right price point? The more subscribers the better our negotiating posture. I would certainly review their 2013 software with caution. I think that Doug caused enough pain & anguish to last for a long time to come. I am looking forward to TaxWorks 2013 and due to their debacle this year as well I am certain that they have lost many customers. This could bode well for all of us whom are interested in procuring TaxWorks 2013 at a reasonable price? I will be attending the NY Accounting & Technology Show in May 2013 at which many tax software companies have booths, including TaxWorks. I will attempt to see if I able to convince them that they have a sizable marketplace consisting of former TRX members. If you are interested in this approach, let’s hear from all of you so we can see if this negotiating advantage does actually exist! Additionally I find TaxWise to be extremely user unfriendly and onerous as well as rife with work arounds and issues. Efiling is a nightmare and the reports are terrible. Alex, I for one would love to return to TaxWorks for 2013. The big issue is that I was paying $299 for TRX version and need to have a similar price for your software direct from you? This is a brief description of my complaint that I forwarded to the Tennessee AG. Since receiving this product from TRX Software Development Inc. in mid December 2012 TRX and after many hours of my time beta testing this product for them, they had the audacity to compare this new home grown product of theirs to TaxWorks Software by Red Gear, the product that was provided by TRX to me for the past 2 years. To date it has been updated 22 times and it still doesn’t work well enough to produce a complete professional tax return. Some of the blatant issues are, states are not yet available and tested? Platform is very unstable and continues to have many issues. The same type issues appear to exist affecting the business returns and they have not yet been tested? Using this software for the 2012 tax season in my opinion would destroy my business as my clients expect and deserve professional, accurate and state of the art results! I do believe that TRX Software Development Inc. has had an opportunity to come clean and work out a refund policy with its members which would have been the appropriate thing to do. They however chose to continue this prolonged beta test to no avail. I have serious doubts about the claim made by TRX, that they e filed 50,000 tax returns using this software for the 2011 tax year without incident? I am formally requesting a full and speedy refund immediately in the amount of $339.94. Due to the above facts, I was compelled to purchase another tax software package which cost me an additional $350. I do hope that they eventually develop a professional tax software product that will make us all proud. Michael M Dubin CPA

I installed the software today and it works quite well. A bit of a learning curve but after a few returns I am certain that I will get the hang of it. All of the business modules as well as free e filing comes with the package. Tom Hughes is not related to Doug Hughes! My efin was fine. Now we can all get some shuteye. Mike Dubin CPA
