  1. Had occasion to speak with TRX today and they conformed that my software was shipped as promised on Monday December 12, 2011. I will alert everyone once I receive it. Mike Dubin CPA
  2. It is my understanding that should TRX not provide TaxWorks they will in fact offer similar software packages, whatever is available at the time, for the same guaranteed prices. Point in fact, I originally purchased ATX from TRX for 2009 and as we all are aware they lost their license with ATX for 2010 and offered TaxWorks for the same guaranreed prices! I am comfortable with this model and will work to hold them to their word. Mike Dubin CPA
  3. I too switched from ATX after 7 years. I feel that I am better off staying with TaxWorks so long as it is being offered. My reasoning is that, 1-I like the software and feel comfortable with the learning curve. 2-Don't want to think about conversion again at this time 3-I don't wish to participate in a beta test with their home grown software. Best of luck Mike Dubin CPA
  4. I spoke with TRX today and they informed me that they will begin shipping 2011 tax software programs on Decenber 12, 2011. This is a bit lateer than last year however accordind to them, they allegedly had lots of programming changes to deal with. Thought you might like to know. Mike Dubin CPA
  5. For those interested TRX is having a Thanksgiving sale as follows: THEIR HOMEGROWN PRODUCTS TaxExact Pro Membership $299 regularly $399 TRX Pro Membership $549 regularly $699 TAXWORKS TRX Pro Membership $299 regularly $399 TRX Premium Membership $549 regularly $699 Their website is http://trxsoftware.com/ Happy holidays to all Mike Dubin CPA
  6. I think it is entirely appropriate for this venue. When we were in discussion as to what types of postings should be allowed, hiring employees was most certainly on the list. Best of luck. Mike Dubin CPA
  7. Your need to provide your license expiration date. In NYS it expires every 3 years on 12/31, depending on date of issuance. Mike Dubin CPA
  8. I have an idea that may ultimately save all of us some money and with this economy we could all use a break. I am not certain how many of us there are on this board and what type of products we use. For example: Tax software Accounting software Payroll software Computers Printers Toner Paper and supplies Service contracts, networks, etc. Insurance Cell phones I think you get the idea? Once this data is available, we can see if there is any clout to bring to negotiate deals with providers of these services. Let's assume for argument sake that 250 of us are presently using ATX, and let’s further assume that there are many disparities in the individual pricing, I believe that we could negotiate a better deal with them and /or convince many of you to change your tax software to a competitor that will negotiate and save us all money! Socialism at it's best. Please let me hear your thoughts on this subject and see if it has any teeth? Thanks for your participation. Mike Dubin CPA
  9. For those of us who were affected by hurricane Irene, I believe that we have an additional 2 weeks or October 31 to file all 2010 returns? I hope that I am not missing something? Anybody? Thanks Mike Dubin CPA

  14. I think that this would topic would serve all of us on this board who are contemplating buying, selling or merging their practices. This could turn out to be a formidable way to conduct these type transactions without any fees. I would suggest that any transaction that once concluded should offer to contribute some fixed fee and or percentage of the price to Eric for his hard work in setting these forums up and maintaining them. I suggest that we have a poll and see where it leads us. Thanks Mike Dubin CPA
  15. For Eric. Would it be at all possible to begin a separate forum for "Tax Practices For Sale and/or Merger"? If there are no objections this may assist many of us in our plight to obtain additional business as well as save any and all commissions. Thanks Mike Dubin CPA
  16. I am not certain that this post is appropriate for this board, however a similar one was posted on Intuit's website http://www.taxalmanac.org/index.php/Main_Page, under business growth . I am a CPA in Nassau County, Long Island, NY and would like to purchase a small to medium, up to $100,000, tax practice in the local area. I have been in practice for over 30 years, and share a working relationship with another practitioner. Our combined practices consist of 130 personal tax returns and 20 business returns, writeups, compilations & reviews, bookkeeping, payroll tax services, etc. Anyone interested in selling, merging, etc, this type of practice should feel free to contact me directly at [email protected]. Thanks Mike Dubin CPA
  17. I like many others on this board who purchased ATX through TRX for 2009 were offered the option to purchase the $699 version of TaxWorks from TRX for $299 plus shipping, as a replacement of ATX for 2010 due to TRX losing their license with ATX. The best news is that all subsequent renewals every year as long as you renew before May 1, are fixed @ $299. The only issue is that TRX may lose its licensing agreement with Tax Works and offer yet another solution in the future. They do have a new home grown product for 2011 called Tax Exact. I have reviewed it and found it to be a decent product with some stability issues. They are very receptive to comments and criticisms and seem to make timely corrections and enhancements. At this time I chose to stay with TaxWorks as I find it to be quite robust and comprehensive. Best of luck Mike Dubin CPA
  18. I received a mail solicitation from Ultimate Tax that offers packages similar to TRX, 1040 package $299, 1040 & Business package $699, free e filing, etc. Upon further inquiry they offer a free 2 year price lock as well as a price match to your current provider. I asked them if they would consider my $299 premium package price with TRX for a price match and they agreed to it. In addition I found out that the 1040 package is actually Tax Wise while the 1040 & Business package is actually Drake! This may become a reasonable alternative should TRX lose it's affiliation with Tax Works! Thought it was worth sharing. Mike Dubin CPA

I just sent this post to Doug Hughes for response. Let's wait and see what he has to say for himself? This posting appeared on www.atxcommunity.com board from taxman01, and one would surmise that a serious problem exists? Please clarify for all of us as to the merits of this post! Thanks Mike Dubin CPA TRX ALLIANCE TRX has collected Service Bureau fees for my company and pocketed the money in the amount of $1,400.00 two years ago, and has only paid me $400.00 cash this year March 2011, and then they gave me free software for 2011 and now 2012 - this is BS... I told them I wanted all my cash and they tell me the check is in the mail..I do not recommend TRX Software to anyone -- you need to check out Rip-Off Report Complaint Review: TRX ALLIANCE - I am not the only one... and the funny thing is they still call me to renewal my software after I was told that it would be free for 2012 -

  22. I attended the seminar yesterday and was presently surprised with the entire experience. It was well attended about 50 participants most of whom were using LaCerte, Ultra Tax, Pro Systems, ATX and Tax Works, with the intention of lowereing their cost of their present software. The session leader was a 13 year veteran who was a CPA and had a tax practice in which he prepares about 100 returns using Tax Works. Needless to say that he was well seasoned and imparted many helpful features of the software. There was ultimately quite an interest from many in the group that I suspect will be switching to Tax Works for 2011. Mike Dubin CPA
  23. I received an amail from Miles today indicating that the seminar is being held on WHEN: Wednesday, not Friday as was previously indicated, May 25th—from 8:45am to Noon WHERE: Hampton Inn Jericho - Westbury 120 Jericho Turnpike Jericho, New York 11753 In addition I am being advised to arrive early as there are only 40 spots and 48 respondents. Mike Dubin CPA
  24. I would call MILES AT 800.230.2322 ext. 4117 as that is all I have for a contact! Mike
