  1. ?????????????????????????????????????? You must be talking about a different IRS than I have dealt with for 14 years. :dunno:
  2. There is no need to look at the NDA. The fact that others know that we are preview (beta) testers is NOT an issue. The NDA for both the preview and the CAB is designed to prevent inhouse processes and information from being put out. It was very well received that several of us were preview testers (5 of 8 of those in attendance at the CAB) and were ready to make recommendations and observations once the testing is complete. Intimate details of how the internal structure had been changed, etc. must remain private till such time as their legal department says (if ever) that we can disclose it. During the CAB where we met about 15 top people in the process of getting 2013 ready, I am at 90% convinced to stay on board. Trust me when I say, those directly involved in the development and testing were run through the wringer by the CAB people. I mean REALLY run through the wringer. Stay tuned. We (CAB members) asked for direction about how much of the meetings we can disclose. Trust me when I say, I will disclose everything I can without breaking their trust in me, that will help anyone that has used ATX to make a good decision. Meanwhile, all those that are preview testers, keep beating it up! The people actually working on the software listened to everything we told them. Stay tuned. I am 90% ready to stay on board. More as soon as I have the remaining pieces to make my decision and make the call for myself and the firm I work for.
  3. A lawyer and a senior citizen are sitting next to each other on a long flight. The lawyer is thinking that seniors are so dumb that he could get one over on them easily. So, the lawyer asks if the senior would like to play a fun game. The senior is tired and just wants to take a nap, so he politely declines and tries t...o catch a few winks. The lawyer persists, saying that the game is a lot of fun...."I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me only $5.00. Then you ask me one, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500.00," he says. This catches the senior's attention and, to keep the lawyer quiet, he agrees to play the game. The lawyer asks the first question. "What's the distance from the Earth to the Moon?" The senior doesn't say a word, but reaches into his pocket, pulls out a five-dollar bill, and hands it to the lawyer. Now, it's the senior's turn. He asks the lawyer, "What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?" The lawyer uses his laptop to search all references he can find on the Net. He sends E-mails to all the smart friends he knows; all to no avail. After an hour of searching, he finally gives up. He wakes the senior and hands him $500.00. The senior pockets the $500.00 and goes right back to sleep. The lawyer is going nuts not knowing the answer. He wakes the senior up and asks, "Well, so what goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four?" The senior reaches into his pocket, hands the lawyer $5.00, and goes back to sleep
  4. A TOUGH OLD COWBOY FROMTEXAS COUNSELED HIS GRANDDAUGHTER THAT IF SHE WANTED TO LIVE A LONG LIFE, THE SECRET WAS TO SPRINKLE A PINCH OF GUN POWDER ON HER OATMEAL EVERY MORNING. THE GRANDDAUGHTER DID THIS RELIGIOUSLY UNTIL THE AGE OF 103, WHEN SHE DIED. SHE LEFT BEHIND 14 CHILDREN, 30 GRANDCHILDREN, 45 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, 25 GREAT-GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, AND A 40-FOOT HOLE WHERE THE CREMATORIUM USED TO BE.
  5. Netsetup does NOT exist in 2013. The installation process has been totally revamped. Trust me on this it is HUGELY improved.
  6. I am at the CAB conference right now. Lots of information being shared. I can say that the leadership, old and new, TRULY have a new attitude about providing a working and dependable product for 20113. Stay tuned!!
  7. I disagree. Real property assets and cancellation of debt are NOT connected to personal insolvency. You must have read a different pub than I did. Still has to do the sale of the property and may well have a big taxable capital gain. This is first. Personal insolvency does not apply.
  8. Atlanta does NOT! 10 times the size of Dayton, and they want $12 for 12 hours.
  9. Study for my E.A. exam? Beat on the beta program some more? Free WiFi here with total access.
  10. Missed my 12:30 flight. (several reasons, none work for an excuse) Next flight at 4:30. What to do in the airport for 3 hours!!!
  11. Insolvency does not apply. You must calculate a sale of the rental property with whatever basis is there, with the sale price as the amount of debt forgiven. There may be, as is often the case, a taxable capital gain on the sale. This is step one. Step 2, There may be tax relief for the 1099C under the Taxation Of Canceled Real Property Indebtedness rules. The fair market value of the property comes into play in this calculation. Personal insolvency does not come into play in this instance.
  12. 4.5 hours working with 4 computers. Without specifics, several of the issues look like they have been corrected. Some are not as nice as I would like to see, but better. Tag me as a little "less" skeptical and a little more hopeful. My testing is FAR from over. Stay tuned...
  13. Once a woman invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said, "Would you like to say the blessing?" she said. "I wouldn't know what to say," the girl replied. "Just say what you hear mommy say," the woman answered. The daughter bowed her head and said, "Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?".
  14. I am currently beating the program to death in our domain network environment. Been at it 90 minutes and will be at it 3 more hours. No one else here at the firm so I am running wild pushing the program!! Stay tuned!!!
  15. Agree with jklcpa. See, it can and does happen.... Also, she will not be liable for the COD if her name is not on any of the accounts where the debts were forgiven.
  16. You should hire her as an assistant!
  17. This is Lachanophobia. The treatment for Lachanophobia is Psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, and medication to treat anxiety.
  18. What has your tax accountant advised you in this matter? Refer to IRS notice 2012-63 and IRC 274(n)(3) for per deim and 80% rules. Just as Taxed recommended.
  19. I will add this with an exclamation mark!
  20. The more they can push on us, the less they have to do. I want my bonus for being an unpaid IRS auditor!!!
  21. I have received several responses with many good suggestions. In fact, a couple of people have duplicated requests. This will be good when I present them at the meetings. Keep those responses coming! No issue too small.
  22. I will bring back as much information from the meeting as I possible can. I will share the recommendations I receive here with the same emphasis as if they were all my own. They WILL hear about them. Stay tuned. I may be online while I am there. Their center has WiFi in the whole building.
  23. Too many angry inconsiderate posters. If you have suggestions, I will forward them while I am there. If you did not use ATX in 2012, I'm not sure what additions or changes you could suggest?? Suggestions forwarded to CCH is not an indication of what may be changed.
  24. Another tax software is DEFINITELY the best route for you. You ARE looking for a special word from them. "The fact that the beta testers were sworn to secrecy speaks volumes, in my opinion." Since you are part of the testing group, you know exactly what and why. Stick with your new software, and file a lawsuit if your damages were as extensive as you say.
  25. A partial day of testing is way too soon for me to give any recommendations. Check the rest of my posts about beta testing. The testing will be three weeks long and I am restricted about what details I can tell. Rest assured, I will give the program a thorough testing. If you are looking for them to bow at your feet and kiss them to make up for the bad 2012 program, you will be waiting a long long time. If that is your requirement for using them in 2013, sticking with someone else may be your best option. If I did not think they were serious about 2013, I would not be as involved as I am. Pay attention to my thread about the CAB. The current leadership is totally different and seem to have the right attitude. I spoke to 3 different department managers while I was at the IRS Forum in Atlanta. I was very straight and brutally honest in my conversations. EVERYONE there knows that 2012 was a total disaster for about 40% of their users. No need to keep rubbing it in their faces, as most of the leadership in place now had nothing to do with the 2012 debacle.
