  1. We are currently up to date on all extended returns. 6 weeks later than previous years, but current. I told many of the extenders that the date was Aug. 15. It worked!!!
  2. OK, post the content. Not everyone subscribes to the WSJ.
  3. We only reply with a 1040X when the CP2000 has ridiculous and inaccurate information and calculations. This happens about 1 out of 3 times. In the last 2 weeks, we have received 10 CP2000 for couples MFS where the mortgage interest was split. IRS is disallowing which ever one's SS# was not on the 1098INT. I have a canned response letter that I use and just change names, dates and dollar amounts.
  4. We cannot take the chance of another 2012. Converting and checking 3,000 returns will start just as soon as the conversion program is released. We will probably have 300+ man hours in verification before season gets started. The cost of conversion is small compared to the lost revenue and customer confidence from 2012.
  5. I am the backup vendor. I will NOT move our clients information offsite. I have redundancies built into our operation that provide me all the protection (actually more) that an offsite backup company would, and the information is under OUR control. Each morning, the backup external hard drive from the day before is connected and the one hooked in (with last nights complete backup) is taken back across the street to the house of my boss's parents. The server is backed up in two locations on the network as well. I have yet to hear of a Drake user that lost all the work on a return due to a program glitch. Drake saves each entry immediately after you move to the next form or page. The worst you could possibly lose in the last 2 minutes of work. Yes, I have run the Drake software through ALL the paces. It is DEPENDABLE, speedy and intuitive to use. Average wait time for tech support increased last year to 12 seconds. Longest wait was 3 minutes. I HAVE checked it all out. Price was 4th or 5th on the priority list for choosing new software.
  6. Seize their cars/trucks. Sell them and pay the child support. THAT would get their attention. However, our society thinks that people that steal and cheat their kids are not a real problem. Proof: The number of and amount of delinquent parents.
  7. We chose Drake because it works dependably.
  8. Instead of multitasking, I am multimetering...
  9. Have not so far. The Employment tax program is based on the 2011 program. We e-filed about 20 W-2s, and 150 1099s. This does not mean we will not have issues, just haven't seen any at this point.
  10. The way to insult 4 major Sci-Fi groups in one step.
  11. Trekkers! They walk among you! Perfectly disguised as normal mortal humans...
  12. You have to be techno and a Trekker to get it!!
  13. Only reply if you get this!!!
  14. Slowly - Yes Surely - That can be debated!!
  15. I am a divorced parent. I paid child support for 13 years. Never more than 2 weeks delinquent (job change) but within 4 weeks was back current again. In addition, I spent hundreds more on my children. The are MY children, so it was not a chore. I was their only help to get though college (3 of them) and was glad to do it. For 11 kid/college years, my ex-wife may have contributed $1,000 total. From 2002 till 2010 inclusive, I had children in college. Two years there were 2 in at the same time. If the middle child had chosen more than 2 years, his third year, all 3 would have been in college at the same time. I have ZERO tolerance for any person of either gender that does not provide for their children. Has it been easy? Raising and providing for my children has been the most difficult thing I have ever done. Do I regret any of it? NNNNNOOOOOOOOO! I dare any of those that are delinquent in their child support to look me in the eye and give me a REAL reason they are not providing for THEIR children!!
  16. Choose to make the right decisions about your children, and avoid all of the above...
  17. Bringing this up again.... I am registered for Atlanta this year. I have a room reserved at the Mariott and would share expenses if another man wants to attend. Splitting cost would make it more affordable. Send me a PM and we can talk about logistics. I will be arriving on Monday morning August 19, and will leave Thursday afternoon August 22.
  18. Welcome to the way it was before e-services.
  19. Ditto. I have nothing different than mcb39.
  20. What JohnH said!!
  21. I agree with Bulldog.
  22. In all the posts on all the threads this year, there are at least 50 things you need to check/change on your system. I have implemented all of them. and they do make a difference. If you aren't tech savvy enough to do it yourself, put someone on staff that is tech savvy, School him/her in tax preparation basics, and let him/her take care of your I.T. infrastructure. No matter what software you use, from this day forward, this will be a necessity if you intend to stay in the game.
  23. You are prolonging the inevitable. If you peruse the threads, you will find that staying with the old version is counterproductive. Any changes in 12.18 may change returns you have already created. You can lead a horse to water.....
  24. "The IRS intends to replace DA with “a better automated system that will save time, be easier to use and be more cost-effective for the Service.” The IRS did not provide a timeline for the new functionality. The IRS has “strengthened and fine-tuned” its manual process to accommodate authorizations while it develops an automated system." Best laugh I have had in days!!!
