  1. Regularly. 8821 has much more power for the preparer if he is not an EA, CPA or Attorney.
  2. The IRS will not accept any documents via e-mail. If you are an EA, you can input the 2848 through e-services. I solved the problem of my fax using the same line as my phone by getting Magic Jack. I call using Magic Jack, then fax the 2848 using my phone line. Works great.
  3. Here is the text.... McCain hopes $1 coin leads to bigger tips for strippers Posted by CNN's Bryan Koenig (CNN) If Congress passes the COINS Act replacing the $1 paper bill for a coin, the U.S. government may be able to save billions in printing costs at the expense of a little more jangle in the average consumers' pockets. But what about the strippers? That's what The Hill newspaper asked one of the bill's co-sponsors, Sen. John McCain, in a piece published Thursday. The question came from a separate 2011 story where the publication suggested strippers could suffer in a bill-less economy, with G-strings and garter belts far less accommodating of cold metal. For his part, the Arizona Republican responded in stride in a Capitol Hill hallway. "Then I hope that they could obtain larger denominations," McCain reportedly told The Hill. According to The Hill, the 76 year-old McCain started answering questions from another reporter before a smile spread across his face and he shouted down the hallway to The Hill, "Fives, tens, one hundreds!" McCain's office did not respond to a request for comment. Officially called the Currency Optimization, Innovation, and National Savings Act, the COINS Act has been put before Congress multiple times in recent years. In the Senate it was most recently introduced in June as S.1105 by Tom Harkin, D-Iowa. McCain's fellow co-sponsors in the Senate are Michael Enzi, R-Wyoming, and Mark Udall, D-Colorado. If passed, the bill would require Federal Reserve banks to stop circulating paper $1 bills within five years of the COIN Act going into effect. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here we go again!! Liberals putting the "convenience" of a VERY SMALL group of people in the United States as a reason to derail an absolutely smart economic move. I wish, at least once, someone from that group who object would come up with an objection with at least a tiny bit of logic and reason. (Maybe I expect too much out of that group?)

  6. My advice still stands. We spend more time dealing with city taxes than we do dealing with IRS issues. If she goes back to the city, she will get double talked, and ignored. With an experienced tax preparer from her city, they will know how to say the right things, write the correct correspondence and get the situation handled. I doubt she is the first to experience what her story says. DIY, you are at the mercy of the city tax agencies with their improperly and incomplete training of workers and totally arrogant attitude about the taxpayers. Example: A neighboring city to us (I am sure 60,000+ population) openly states that they do not have a fax machine. That says it all!!
  7. Studying to take the EA exam AGAIN!
  8. Tying up tomato plants again since the storm blew them around the stakes and onto the ground. Flattened half our green beans that were BEAUTIFUL before the storm. Will be canning about 1 bushel of beans from the garden tomorrow. Getting ready for IRS Forum in Atlanta. Staying in bed till 8:30 every weekday and 10:00 on Sat & Sun. Working on convincing my kids (29, 27 & 25) that it is a good thing to come visit.
  9. Freezer Jam!! Two thumbs up!! The strawberries here are not consistently available from year to year. In the year they are plentiful, we will do around 75 jars. (Most 12oz, remainder 8oz.) In a deep freeze at 0degrees or colder, we have successfully kept it over 4 years. We had a great crop in 2011. Not so good since.
  10. Dan was a single guy living at home with his father, and working in the family business. When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed to find a wife with whom to share his fortune. One evening, at an investment meeting, he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away. ... "I may look like an ordinary guy," he said to her, "but in just a few years, my father will die and I will inherit $200 million." Impressed, the woman asked for his business card. Three days later, she became his STEPMOTHER.
  11. "A cowboy rode into town and stopped at the saloon for a drink. Unfortunately, the locals always had a habit of picking on newcomers. When he finished, he found his horse had been stolen. He comes back into the bar, handily flips his gun into the air, catches it above his head without even looking and fires a shot int...o the ceiling. 'Who stole my horse?' he yelled with surprising forcefulness. No one answered. 'I'm gonna have another beer and if my horse ain't back outside by the time I'm finished, I'm gonna do what I dun back in Texas and I don't want to have to do what I dun back in Texas!' Some of the locals shifted restlessly. He had another beer, walked outside, and his horse was back! He saddled up and started to ride out of town. The bartender wandered out of the bar and asked, 'Say partner, what happened in Texas?' The cowboy turned back and said, 'I had to walk home!'
  12. Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate has the hard drive encryption ability built in.
  13. Whether you believe it or not, Taxed, the FACTS show that for the past 40 years, incumbents that ran in an opposed race were reelected 90% of the time. This fits EXACTLY what Catherine is correctly observing and saying. Can't change the facts. Congress polls a 9% approval yet are reelected 90% of the time. American voter apathetic ignorance at work.
  14. So you are going to go on to say that man has anything to do with it? Long term scientific studies recently done fly directly in the face of the "Man Made Global Warming" hoax by showing that in the last 50 years there has be about a 1 degree COOLING. All the scientific "data" that was used to start the "Man Made Warming" hoax has been shown to have been modified, or parts omitted to meet the theory. I have seen this kind of weather dozens of times in the 56 years I have been here. Anyone that thinks man is large enough to have more than a nuisance effect of global weather patterns also believed in Y2K, black helicopters with blue helmeted troops in them, tracking devices in the security strips of $100 bills, viruses in jet contrails and Obamacare will be good for America. All from the same mindset.
  15. Only in the overactive imagination of liberals with some hidden agenda.
  16. If she is filing City of Newark return, she lives in the City of Newark. Her city would be her area.

  18. Has anyone done this successfully. When I go to add a .pdf, only the Federal return allows it. We have done several for KY and had no problems. I thought as part of MEF, all states that e-file were supposed to allow attachment of .pdf? My beliefs in these areas are subject to correction from anyone with more information than me.....
  19. The correct term is "unregistered Democrats."
  20. Then charge him for filing it correctly or amending. You deserve to get paid for what you know!
  21. Don't forget recapture of depreciation... This is often a spoiler when a rental owner sells for what he/she thinks will be a loss.
  22. This is a fact. NO inheritance tax in the State of Ohio. This has angered localities, counties and School districts because the majority of the Inheritance tax monies went to them. They are the big losers in this case.
  23. Yes. See my previous quotes....
  24. If the funds are actually used for education expenses, it does not matter who receives the 1099Q. No tax consequences if the funds are used for education. It will make no difference, and getting the changes done will probably be a nightmare.
  25. I have had to educate several clients on the fact that the repossession of a business property is treated like a sale. The gain cannot be avoided. Sometimes the lending institution will issue a 1099A showing the fulfillment of the note due to repossession. The 1099A is not forgiveness of the debt. After the bank sells the property, the taxpayer may still be liable amount that the bank writes off. The 1099C shows debt forgiveness and there are possible exclusion rules that may prevent him from claiming it as income. Most have refinanced a few times and taken out a bunch of cash. Property ends up selling for far less than the mortgage. I get the question: "How am I supposed to pay that?" I have a reply: "What did you do with the cash you took out when you refinanced?"
