Web based e-mail companies have been archiving EVERYTHING for many years. This is not new news.

So the mediums for communicating words and speech have only improved technologically a little bit? Apply the concept to all of the 10 amendments or none. Your contention seems baseless. There were weapons of mass destruction (cannon and black powder) when they framed the constitution.

Exaggerated and knee jerk reactions to not having and/or understanding what has been going on. Will these people stop using credit cards, rewards cards at stores, telephones to make calls, sending e-mail, writing checks? The monitoring by the NSA amounts to them looking at who called who. No listening. (That is ultimately more complex than it looks on NCIS or the Mission Impossible movies). The technology does not exist to monitor the billions of calls made each day. Unfounded paranoia expressed by uninformed people in irrational ways is sad and funny at the same time.

Does this mean that the 1st Amendment should not apply to technologies that did not exist at the time? Radio, TV, Internet... I think NOT! I do not think the writers of the constitution and the bill or rights were being exclusionary about any parts of it. "Oh, but if things change, these rights may not apply." MALE BOVINE SCAT!!

Taxscripts will be useless after August. I do not believe any Congressman or Senator cares about efficiency or convenience for tax professionals. It is my observed opinion that most of the 535 people in D.C. don't even know what a tax professional is.

She needs to fire her insurance agent. Find one that is not bent on ripping her off! Comprehensive coverage is usually the lowest priced coverage for an automobile.

Single owner S-corp acquired a business loan in 2008. Company has barely made a profit or had losses since its inception in 2006. Loan went into default. Owner signed to per personally liable for the debt and started making payments in 2010. Bank wrote off $60K in 2012. 1099-C was issued with S-corp EIN on it. Client wants to take the insolvency exception on his personal return. (He had large 1099-C amount in 2011 and we filed 942 with the associated insolvency sheet.) It is my contention that the S-Corp must claim the COD as income with the associated passthrough to him as sole owner. He is attempting to make me feel guilty because I informed him that unless the bank will re-issue the 1099-C with his SS# on it, the S-Corp must claim the income and "I do NOT want to pay tax on this money!" Any ideas from anyone? Am I thinking correctly, or can he take the insolvency exception on his personal return? I don't have tissue paper feelings on my shoulders, so shoot straight with me.

There was no estate. All assets transferred TOD at time of his passing. She signed both his 2010 and 2010 MFS as "Surviving Spouse." Net worth may be only $2k tops.

Likewise, over the 14 years, probably filed 50 or more. All accepted without any questions.

Innocent or injured spouse only applies to MFJ returns.

Background. Clients file MFJ 2008 & 2009. Have balance due and have not made payments. Returns were filed late as well. Aprox. tax due $11K. Amount due was simply caused by insufficient withholding at W-2 jobs. Procrastination continued. 2010 and 2011 returns were filed in October 2012. Both years were filed as MFS. All 4 returns had balance due. Same reason, insufficient withholdings. Wife paid the amounts for her 2010 & 2011 returns. Here is the problem hitch and the basis of my question. Husband passed away in March 2012. Wife signed his 2010 & 2011 returns as surviving spouse. There was no estate. Everything went to wife when hubby passed. All assets are mortgaged so her net worth is very small. Question: Is the wife responsible for the taxes owed on deceased spouse tax returns?

Line 14 is a yes/no question just like the prior 4 questions. No concerns.

Passing the RTRP is not a requirement for obtaining a CAF number.

Collision without comprehensive? I would fire her insurance man!!!

If your Sister-in-law has comprehensive coverage on her car insurance, it should be covered subject to the deductible.

We have natural gas here, and before 24 months pass, we will have a whole house automatic system that is outdoors. We live in town so we do not have a well pump, or water heater to deal with. City water, gas furnace and water heater. We can get a system that is totally automatic and will power almost everything for about $7k installed. When on the generator, using the stove or oven would be a minimal thing. But, microwave, toaster oven, electric skillet etc. are all usable. It will easily power my A/C in the summer at the same time. It starts itself once a week for testing. Takes about 10 seconds to fully kick in when the power drops, and disconnects seamlessly when the power comes back on. I have two clients with these systems and they love them. I like the idea of totally automatic and seamless. I have all the electronics in my house on Battery Backup which will effortlessly keep them up while the system starts, so not even a reboot when the power goes down.

In light of what has surfaced lately concerning information requested from targeted groups, this would not surprise me.

WIN7 PRO has encryption capabilities for security that Home does not. You can encrypt the information written on your hard drive such that if a hacker gets to your drive, he will get gibberish instead of data.

12.17 has caused me no issues on my standalone Win7 Pro machine at my private practice.

I agree with the head of development that the METHOD of workstations accessing the database in a network was the fatal flaw. New for 2013, software will be installed ON the server and then software will be INSTALLED on each workstation separately (not a netsetup like in the past). A TRUE network scenario. My research about Raven DB has shown that, if properly configured for a network, can be successfully used on a network. Film at 11:00.

I find that Windows 7 Pro deals with business software better and if you are in a network Pro is a must. An update to Pro or Ultimate is not expensive and is seamless.

You can take THAT statement to the bank!! They may fire me soon after the beta testing starts, but I will not pull any punches and intend to give the software a workout in our scenario here at the firm. Again, I will keep everyone here informed.
