  1. I stay out of trouble concerning refund depost dates and times with the following: "The IRS posted schedule says xx-xx-xxxx. It also says that no deposit dates are guaranteed. Expect your refund in 3-4 week or less. It could be as quick as 8 days, but as much as 28. I say this from experience over the last 2 years."
  2. Enough about this. I deal in reality. Been hearing about all this for over 40 years, and other than a few scattered instances of e-mail hacking,(out of the trillions of e-mails that get sent, if 500 get hacked, that is inconsequential) I still consider USPS far more dangerous than e-mail. I started being a computer person when -load*.*,8,1- was the command to get started. The computer had a total memory of 64K, only floppy drives, and 40 character lines on the screen. Still waiting for "Big Brother" to show up. The cordless phone in your office is the most wide open source there is. I use only hard wired phones. Subjecting clients to have to deal with decrypting simple e-mails is "a bridge too far." Most have trouble just reading, sending or attaching information to e-mail. Sad to say, but that is the state of most of America. I also saw the black helicopters with blue helmeted troops flying around here today. The "Harp" project in Alaska is responsible for the unusual weather we are having. All our water supplies have been contaminated with DiHydrogen Monoxide. (DHMO) Google it if you don't believe me. Maybe the "One World Government" is on the way after all. (SARCASM ALERT)
  3. Remove the FeeCollect form(s)
  4. I didn't even notice that!! It does speak volumes!!!
  5. Seems to me that getting access to someones network or harwire and installing a sniffer would be considerable work. It would only allow access to that single network. Web based e-mail accounts get hacked due to weak passwords and usernames. If the person hacks the onliine account and gets the e-mail containing the information that is encrypted, he would also get the e-mail that has the information concerning the key as well. The government scanning millions of e-mail article is 11 years old, and pure yak squeeze. There is not enough computer equipment to catch all the trillions of packets, reconstruct them, then store them. The show "Person of Interest" is pure science fiction, as well as the "Big Brother" fear of e-mails being easily read. Postal letters are a thousand times easier to hack. I would also like to see some proof or evidence from a technical source. Of course we all know that news media and internet media sites only print 100% factual information. (SARCASM ALERT!)
  6. Check where you tell the program how many months the child lived with the parent. If you enter 0, it should remove EIC.
  7. This is a discussion board for tax professionals. Ask your do-it-yourself tax program. www.irs.gov is also a place with tons of information.
  8. ONE MORE TIME! IT IS A WEBSITE PROGRAMMING ERROR. ONLY CCH CAN FIX IT, IF THEY CHOOSE.
  9. We customize several forms with "check boxes." I am only relaying what the tech person told me. "We only support you Customizing forms if you know how to do it. You can't make any changes that would break strings or formulas." If the process is that fraught with danger, why is it available to us? The part that angers me is the fact that the program engine code had to be changed for this to make a difference this year. He denied that when I pressed him. We had the same issue with program code being changed last year. CCH is on the losing slide with customer/technical service for me. I called the technical support line and was answered by a customer service girl. She could only read canned answers give her. When I asked "If this process doesn't work, then what?" She said... "Then I connect you to technical support." My response... "I thought this WAS technical support, and you need to connect me to them." Her response... "I can't connect you to them." My response... "If I speak to your supervisor, I am sure HE can connect me." She connected be, and then the rest of the story unfolded. BE AFRAID!! BE VERY VERY AFRAID!!
  10. As posted previously... "1040 EF Info Error: Form(s) 1040 EF Info, OH EF Info appears to be corrupt. Please discard these forms, add new copies, and save the return before re-creating the e-file." "OH E-File Info Error: This state E-File Inof appears to be corrupt. Please discard this E-File Info, add a new one (from Add Forms), re-enter your data and create this e-file again." After 2 hrs 15 minutes on the phone, I have the answer. Everyone please take note! If you customize a form, it will cause an error when that form is updated in a return. The tech support person removed all the customized forms, replaced them with current versions, and problem was solved. I input the "Updates to Master Forms" yesterday. DO NOT CUSTOMIZE FORMS!! The tech support person denied that the progam code was changed. I KNOW the program code has been changed, because last year I customized 35 different forms. CCH customer service and tech support is starting this filing season on the wrong foot with me. If the customization was going to be a problem, the programmers should have removed it, or at least sent us a heads up!!

  12. "1040 EF Info Error: Form(s) 1040 EF Info, OH EF Info appears to be corrupt. Please discard these forms, add new copies, and save the return before re-creating the e-file." "OH E-File Info Error: This state E-File Inof appears to be corrupt. Please discard this E-File Info, add a new one (from Add Forms), re-enter your data and create this e-file again." I have done the procedures to the letter listed 3 times. Updated the program and all forms, have been on hold to tech support for 40 minutes with an additional wait time of 15-20 expected. This only started this morning. No issue at all yesterday. Any help would be appreciated.
  13. If you need to know the DCN number, open the e-file manager, scroll down to the client, scroll right and THERE IT IS!!!
  14. When in doubt, send them out!
  15. I have never seen the need for the obsession of having the DCN number on the 8879.
  16. The completely technical answer is no. Even the people at ATX will likely tell you so. Turbotax is designed for "do it yourself" people. ATX is a professional software and is not even close to the same kind of platform. Sounds like lots of time getting acquainted with all your last year's clients. I hope you don't have too many!!
  17. No problem since 8:00PM last night.
  18. Just updated and sent 3 e-files. Their system must be up and running.
  19. It is a good thing the outage happened at a slow time.... :spaz:
  20. Tried 3 times since 2:00. I will wait till midnight.
  21. www.energystar.gov has ALL information and requirements for the tax credit.
  22. The firm I work for had a bank refuse deposit from a joint return into an account that had only the husband's name on it. Someone at the bank has to approve every ACH transaction. How the bank decides to handle them is up to the bank. Have the client call his bank, talk to the person who handles the ACH transactions, and see what he can find out. My experience with several banks in the past 5 years has shown me that most do not care about proper customer service, and have forgotten who the actual customer is. I deal with a local bank that only has 5 branches, all in my county. Even there, the "attitude" still shows itself.
  23. How it is treated will be totally up to the finacial institution involved. Each one has their own rules about what they will and will not accept. If they want to be "customer service friendly", they will accept it. If not, it will be rejected, go back to the IRS, and in about 2 -3 more weeks, a paper check will be sent.
  24. It is a website code error. The admin of that site needs to be checking into the issue. The message says there is an error, but seeing what the error is has been blocked. I have an XP machine on my home network with IE8 that logs in just fine. My Win 7 machine with IE9 worked just fine until Friday. I am very meticulous about my computer and know that it is not an issue with my system. I have a son who is a software engineer for Teradata. Website programming is what he does. He looked at the error and immediately said, "The website Admin needs to fix his site." Someone changed something in the site programming on Friday, then went home for the weekend. You would think a website/company that supports tax preparation business would have people on staff for such things during the most crucial time of tax season. I'm just sayin.....
