He used the word re-file. I would consider that to mean that he HAD ALREADY SENT the original. Doesn't re- usually indicate doing a second time?

Still sticking with my Feb. 1, 2012

This is the reason I recommend Feb 1 to start preparing returns!!!

Updating forms... geez.. how long can this take?
Jack from Ohio replied to Chowdahead's topic in General Chat
I normally run the manual update at 3:00 a.m. -
Where in Ohio do you live?

The control number on the W-2 is only for the use of the preparers of the W-2. The IRS does not care about it, so why even enter it? Ampersand & is a control character in progrmming language, therefore the reason it is not allowed in so many places as explained so well by Michael G.

Punctuation is not needed for an address, and the latest from the USPS says they do NOT want punctuation in addresses for mailing. The control number on the W-2 is for the use of the preparers of the W-2. The IRS does not care about it, so why even enter it? Ampersand & is a control character in progrmming language, therefore the reason it is not allowed in so many places.

At the firm it took 40 minutes to download and install the updates. Still no e-file forms. -
I will go ahead and file them early. Amended returns for those folks will be an additional 10% increase over the 25% increase last year. Sometimes I get paid for what I know, not what I do... BTW, Amendments for other reasons have had no increase from 2008.

Traffic Jam. If you want it to go faster, wait till midnight or later. -
It is only Jan 17. How many of these early filers will end up with amended returns later? I used to make everyone wait till Feb. 1, but now I will do them as soon as I can process them. The rates for my amendments, in this case, went up 25% tax year 2009. I guess it is just a coincidence that those that I amended due to filing too early have waited till Feb to bring their information last year??? Just tag me as tired of babysitting with the same words about the same situation several years in a row.

Disagree! How much would she have to earn to show that she provides more than 50% of her living expenses as well as her children? Any less than that and she is STILL his dependent as "qualifying relative" and therefore CANNOT receive EIC.

If you have e-file, you will have to create a corrected 1099 and MAIL it in. I do not think corrected 1099s can be e-filed. When we submit 1099s, we wait to transmit them till about 2 days before the deadline to handle just such instances. Same with W2's. Much easier to create new 1099's with correct information than to send a corrected 1099.

We get this question about forms hundreds of times each tax year. The IRS and each state and local entity has to approve the forms ATX creates for each year. ATX cannot release them for PRINTED filing till the forms are approved. E-filing can begin as soon as the IRS opens the computers. I have heard that Jan 13, 16 or 17 is the first day for e-filing. As for other companies... When their firm starts preparing returns has NO EFFECT on my/our business. If the only reason a client comes to you is how soon you can file their return, are they really YOUR client or the client of the calendar. I'm just sayin.....

But she will not be providing a home for her child, so no EIC either.

How are you handling getting your clients to give you 1099s?
Jack from Ohio replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
This is a non-issue. As long as YOU correctly report all income, there is no issue. If your client is not willing to listen to your advice, thereby complying with the rules, it is HIS issue if he gets audited. The expense he was supposed to issue a 1099 for will be disallowed. The fact that you claimed the income correctly, leaves you clear. I have stopped babysitting clients after several years of the same thing. Penalties can be a great motivator to listen to the tax accountant professional. -
Same process as taking the E.A. exam. Test has more questions, and they do provide Pub. 17 and 1040 instructions for your use. IRS rep spoke at our PTP meeting this past Wed and said that NO results or certifications will be handed out for at least 2 months. The IRS does not have processes for handling the test results or verifying certification for passing the test.

You must send the completed CA6. The CA6 is actually the amended form. Send an updated copy of the MA-1 as documentation for the CA6. This information is all in the instructions for CA6. The CA6 is the worksheet as well.

Our firm uses Landmark Merchant Solutions based in Naperville, IL. The owner has been satisfied with their services for three years now. Prior to that, we had a different provider each year.

Talking to the IRS for our clients. Is it just me???
Jack from Ohio replied to Jack from Ohio's topic in General Chat
I prepared the return. It was 2010, the designee box was checked. The CP2000 WAS for 2010. I was not able to discuss ANYTHING! Despite your position, it has not always been this way for CURRENT year returns that I prepare. The past 2 years it has been different! Then to top it off, she said she would reissue the CP2000 and fax it to me. It would take 30 minutes at 5:15PM EST. It is currently 11:28 PM EST and I am still waiting. The Practicioner Priority Line is a joke for anyone but an E.A., CPA or Attorney. -
Or does it seem that the IRS is putting more and more obstacles in the way to prevent us from helping. Form 2848 is useless unless you are an E.A.. Form 8821 will only work for matters that do not include a discrepiency in the amount of tax owed. (There goes the ability to help for prior year CP2000) Of what benefit is a CAF number, a PTIN number, and EIN number, or for that matter, ANY identification protocols that we all jump through hoops to get. My client received a CP2000 for 2010. It stated that income on a 1099C was not claimed. I verfied that form 982 was filed. (She is worse than insolvent). I verified that the form was included in the e-file that was sent. The client received her refund, so I know the return was received. All I want to do is find out if their system, or CCH transmitting system dropped the ball. But NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I have to call the number on the CP2000, have a threeway phone convo with my client in order to discuss this. YAK SQUEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just for my own informaton... Are not all S-Corps established as a C-corp with an election to be an S-corp sent to the IRS. Doesn't the IRS have the ability to say yes or no?
