  1. To WI tax preparers - I think I asked this before and I tried to search for this.. If it makes more sense to file MFS for whatever reason - Can the couple then file MFJ to get the married couple credit? WI seems vague about it? Thank you, Darlene too many taxes and too few days!
  2. plus the $5.50 for back years e-filing for each fed and state return - I now add additionally and $12 for certified! if the year that isd closing. d/WI
  3. Long story - in order to end almost 4 years of my mom's trust with myself as Trustee I agreed to let my brother take over rather than go to court - So he is in the process of auctioning off the contents of her home - She wanted us to take as much as we wanted - had lists all over and names on items but would not give it before her passing - wanted to wait - he said he did not want anything and was not into clutter or hoarding - appraiser said it was the nicest "hoarding" place he ever saw as it was clean and organized and displayed. Anyway so 6 siblings- myself as oldest (power thing here) and 5 brothers got to pick 6 items and rest is being auctioned online - at least 6 of them, over 700 items each time. Now the issue is he wants the 10 boxes, tubs, etc of papers to finish the reports, and inventory, and his original email stated May 18th to finish the paperwork.. I am fine with that, then he said April and now he said Mar!! I said I am good with May. He says no, now.. Can I ignore his demand until May? Neither I nor anyone in the office has time - we are swamped! They dragged it out 4 years - he can wait .. It needs to be gone through to make sure there are no private papers in there. And copies made of certain items. Not a quick pu and run.. I, emotionally and psychologically cannot deal with this until after tax season - one of the reasons I settled - They were not very nice.. D/WI
  4. yes - I will try and research also before April 1.. time flies so fast with S corp dates!1 Thank you, D/WI
  5. update - now he says he filed 2 years, not the earliest - mine to do! I gave them all to him! and it is in the report he sent to his attorney who sent it to my counsel who said What are you talking about!! needs to end! But glad some money was gotten and someday I will get my share unless he eats it all up traveling and paying for his gas reimbursement!! gotta love them - cant shoot em D/WI
  6. oh my goodness! This always comes up on the warnings - "check into making the scholarship taxable" and I have always wondered about it - but never took the time. Thank you for the info!! D/WI
  7. I started reading and forgot what I was going to ask.. If someone has VA coverage - and meets the other requirements - high deductible - can they do an HSA? Can the spouse do an HSA for just her? Thank you, D/WI
  8. roof - gone but many of the 30% are still limited to $600 - better but not great! IMHO D/WI
  9. but did you notice - no additional cost - so it still is not free to start with! Does anyone want to file my easy ones that I am not going to review? Inputted by staff but I check everything and I am so far behind this year! more complicated ones and so many interruptions of everything else but taxes! Considering how to get these filed?Best, D/WI
  10. Farmland preservation credit - based on acres enrolled in.. and no income limits - changed about 5 years ago - based on $$ program you are enrolled in adn # of acres. So her/their (when Dad was alive) generated the $1,875 a year. That is 3 (now2 years) x 1875/6 siblings - he is wasting! $600 - let it go!!?? I work hard to make that much! D/WI
  11. I give a $15 credit if they bring them back filled out! along with the Drop Off Client Form ... D/WI
  12. I did my mom's taxes for years.. She passed away in 2020 and my brother is now PR. I prepared the 2018,19 and 2020 for the FPCredit. Been getting it for 20 years.. I turned them over to him to review and file. His CPA says she does not qualify. The estate has already lost the $1875 for 2018 - soon she will lose that for 2019 and then 2020. I talked to him and he says his guy must be correct.. What can I do - My attorney would not get involved. Mail it in using his address? Sign as me for him? Let it go? My other family members won't fight him.. Best, D WI
  13. If son is not interested, let it go - just tell him to pack her papers in a box, in case IRS ever asks... D/WI
  14. googled - 1 source says taxable, 1 not.. so it is a loan distribution not repaid from leaving his job.. Both taxable and penalized? age 33.. Thank you, D/WI
  15. E-file created - wants HOH for wi to check on main info - married - they are not married and have not been for years.. cannot file WI.. update? correct? thx D/WI
  16. Thank you all.. I did read the Pubs - 15b, etc This is a special rule to add back the 2% shareholder's health insurance to the box 1 wage. Just trying to determine if it can be just $7,500 and that takes care of the IRA And the amount of HI.. Thx d
  17. FYI - Their wages in box 3,5 are an additional $15,500 or $19,000 as they are putting that in their SIMPLE.. Just trying to determine if box 1 for an IRA has to be the IRA amount of $7,500 plus the HI amount or if the IRA amount is enough and the HI is part of that.. Most of these are smaller S corps, either with other income or close to or are retired.
  18. Well, I can try but this is state and I do not think WI has supervisors!! (tongue in cheek!) Thank you! D
  19. Mind is froze.. In order to contribute to an IRA - must have $7,500 in wages in box 1 - For a 2% S corp shareholder - whose health insurance is $4,000 can their wage only be $3,500 to equal $7,500 or does it need to be $7,500 + $4,000 = $11,500? Thank you, D WI
  20. It seems I asked this but when I scroll thru my posts, I cannot get past the first page either way.. New business and converts personal equipment - lawn service - mowers, tools, trailers, etc into the business. Takes a picture, adds page of current flyers or internet with value and deducts for age to get comparable value. The auditor will not accept anything - says none of it is business and worth -0-. Even though it is all used for business now. Any response to the auditor? About $7,000 in taxes over 3 years. Rest is legit. We have used this procedure many times before when items are converted. Please help, Thank you, D in WI
  21. I am finishing 2022 income tax returns - do I mail them in now or wait until Jan 23rd or so when e-file reopens to file these? Which will take less time? What about 2020 and 2021's? Thank you, Darlene
  22. A couple were sent in later as they came to me new - Their tax preparer would not do the ERC and the business was clearly qualified for it!
