  1. and how do you know the difference? Tribe by tribe? Thx d
  2. Not living on the reservation, taxpayers receive Per Capitas - on 1099-Misc Today they were in and said that is not taxable to fed and state - Search shows in 2014, the tribes discussed this.. Did it become non-taxable - more like a stimulus vs taxed income? Irs.gov - says it is taxable ?? thank you makes a difference if I am amending back to state 2019!!
  3. well I agree with that - but like you show - it is not what it says!! Best, Happy taxing! D/WI
  4. all correct above - but I emphasize maxing HSA's Technically line 9 is still incorrect - as those are both employer (maybe) and employee!! contributions thru a Cafeteria Plan.. d
  5. On line 9 - it says employER - and these are from employee.. so when you click on line 2 to put in what matches box 12 - the contribution goes to line 1 on page 1 and gives a credit - Who's error?
  6. speaking of which - then the gross was netted against commission - whichever was higher - so I feel the month of January, I feel I got paid -0- As the w-2 paycheck was an advance against the commission.. and earning no commission in Jan = zero paid for! such a deal - work the first month for free - Should have started in Feb!! Am I correct in my thinking? D/WI
  7. Well MCB!! that is a good problem to have - rather than the reverse!! I have 90 to do yet befoe I hit the dropoff date of 2/22/24 - Best, D/WI
  8. I inherited a return from a CPA with it on.. D
  9. and on 2023 tax return for the 8889 - you do put the contribution on that line and it does give credit for W-2 amount??!!
  10. I take off the gambling losses up to the amount won on Sch A - I had a prior return - line 21 - "same day sessions line 21"- and they took off the losses incurred from the day of the win?? fine for 1 day but 20 w2-g's? 20 days! Has anyone heard of this? Never mind - I just looked it up -Yes from the same day!! thx D
  11. I am having a mental crisis here - Form 8889 - I have not put the employee contributions on the line 2, page 2 - click over - but left it at the EmployER contribution.. from the W-2 - line However, line 1 if you click over says to put contribution here... if not from a cafeteria plan - Isn't that what happened? Cafeteria plan - where the employee elects to have the HSA taken out pre-tax? and when I click off the employer - all the numbers go away.. but that is okay as it does not change the refund?/due? And I do use the line 1 contribution when it is additional or self. Just the W-2 W that is flowing through.. Tell me it's ok? Or I have been doing it wrong since 2019! Or just 2022!! as that does change the refund! But why? It is already included in pre-tax or not included?? Do not need to know until April 16th as 2020 was the May 17th amends! Thx D/WI
  12. That is correct! they can file a form and it may get there faster - for lost refund 3911 I think this happens to me at least 3x a year! Silly clients.. D/WI
  13. unsure - check the rules - there are special ones, could also consider Sch J.. D
  14. Good Luck, We write letters requesting abatement and have had success with the abatement. I have 2 now that ae late 2 years in a row.. unsure what will happen there. And you have lot of facts to back you up. Good Luck, D /WI
  15. Single taxpayer - 2 children = H/H, running a daycare Gets married in Nov Finds out he is a felon - no daycare! = no marriage, but it takes 6 months to get a divorce. So he filed MFS, they are separated Can she file H/H? children are hers all year.. Thank you, D/WI
  16. To WI tax preparers - I think I asked this before and I tried to search for this.. If it makes more sense to file MFS for whatever reason - Can the couple then file MFJ to get the married couple credit? WI seems vague about it? Thank you, Darlene too many taxes and too few days!
  17. plus the $5.50 for back years e-filing for each fed and state return - I now add additionally and $12 for certified! if the year that isd closing. d/WI
  18. Long story - in order to end almost 4 years of my mom's trust with myself as Trustee I agreed to let my brother take over rather than go to court - So he is in the process of auctioning off the contents of her home - She wanted us to take as much as we wanted - had lists all over and names on items but would not give it before her passing - wanted to wait - he said he did not want anything and was not into clutter or hoarding - appraiser said it was the nicest "hoarding" place he ever saw as it was clean and organized and displayed. Anyway so 6 siblings- myself as oldest (power thing here) and 5 brothers got to pick 6 items and rest is being auctioned online - at least 6 of them, over 700 items each time. Now the issue is he wants the 10 boxes, tubs, etc of papers to finish the reports, and inventory, and his original email stated May 18th to finish the paperwork.. I am fine with that, then he said April and now he said Mar!! I said I am good with May. He says no, now.. Can I ignore his demand until May? Neither I nor anyone in the office has time - we are swamped! They dragged it out 4 years - he can wait .. It needs to be gone through to make sure there are no private papers in there. And copies made of certain items. Not a quick pu and run.. I, emotionally and psychologically cannot deal with this until after tax season - one of the reasons I settled - They were not very nice.. D/WI
  19. yes - I will try and research also before April 1.. time flies so fast with S corp dates!1 Thank you, D/WI
  20. update - now he says he filed 2 years, not the earliest - mine to do! I gave them all to him! and it is in the report he sent to his attorney who sent it to my counsel who said What are you talking about!! needs to end! But glad some money was gotten and someday I will get my share unless he eats it all up traveling and paying for his gas reimbursement!! gotta love them - cant shoot em D/WI
  21. oh my goodness! This always comes up on the warnings - "check into making the scholarship taxable" and I have always wondered about it - but never took the time. Thank you for the info!! D/WI
  22. I started reading and forgot what I was going to ask.. If someone has VA coverage - and meets the other requirements - high deductible - can they do an HSA? Can the spouse do an HSA for just her? Thank you, D/WI
  23. roof - gone but many of the 30% are still limited to $600 - better but not great! IMHO D/WI
