  1. Yes, I had the exact same problem with the non-cash donations page. Also the dependents page. I sent it to Nuance for their evaluation, but they are not being helpful.
  2. I have many of my letters exported to My Documents. When one gets frelled up, I either import it or copy/paste the text from the exported letter into ATX.
  3. Just found this in User Guide: If at any time you would like to restore any Master Template to its default state: 1. Open the desired template. 2. Do one of the following: Click the Restore button on the toolbar. Click the Tools menu; then, select Restore. Right-Click the desired template; then, select Restore.
  4. Letters are always a mess in ATX, but especially early on. My rolled over letters have duplicate text in them this year. I just keep fixing them and save for future returns. We usually have to delete letters after rollover and then re-add them. I don't know of any way to reset the letters, but occasionally, ATX seems to reset them for me, much to my dismay since my letters are highly customized.
  5. We treat these just like we do credit cards, enter all the transactions as either an asset or an expense, and create a liability. Unfortunately, Snap-on is famous for having multiple accounts for one customer. Good luck!
  6. But we still have the mystery as to why some of us do not experience this problem. Unless you've determined that it happens after a certain number of clients?
  7. It would be nice if we could detect some pattern for those who do and do not have this problem. It could be a problem with one of windows networking files. Windows networking is notoriously flaky. I have 399 files in 2014. I'm going to duplicate 50 files to see if that triggers the issue. My computer is a server/workstation, but I will try running from one of my workstations as well. Edit: Jeez, you can only duplicate 1 at a time.
  8. One nice thing about using ATX letters is putting in variables so the year is always correct.
  9. I have clients like that.
  10. That, right there, was my entire point!
  11. My entire drive is encrypted (Bitlocker) and I don't have to go through any steps when I boot. The only times I've gotten server connect error, it was because the server service was not running or my hard drive maxed out.
  12. Setting up payroll seems too complicated. Treat it like a partnership. I had a business in a trust, but the owner was retired so it was just an income stream (insurance biz). The trust included a Sch C, but there's no SE tax on the 1041. I never worried about SE tax on the 1040 because no work was currently being done. It's a good question.
  13. You miss my point. Assume the beneficiary of the trust that holds the business operation, also works for that business. It's like the difference between a partner who does no work in an LLC and partner who does work in the LLC.
  14. What if the beneficiary of the trust is actually working on the farm? I see there is no place on the 1041 K1 to enter SE income, but at the 1040 level, shouldn't the beneficiary calculate SE tax if they actively worked?
  15. Keep Task Manager open and when the Server Retry occurs, see if your hard disk is maxed out at 100%. That is the most likely culprit, if it is a hardware issue. Shoot, I just checked and the Win7 task manager doesn't show hard disk usage. They added that in 8. But you can see it in Resource Manager in Win7, which you can access from a button at the bottom of Task Manager.
  16. Maybe if everyone who has this issue could post their system configurations in great detail, even including things like processor, RAM, router, etc., we might be able to discern some pattern.
  17. I can only speak for my situation: peer-to-peer network, high end computers, win 8.1, less than 400 clients. This is a nonissue for me. I think it happened once last year and I just clicked retry and I was in. In 2013, my first year with ATX, it happened maybe 5 times but was again no big deal.
  18. In my inbox this morning: Good morning Mr. Davis, Thank you for calling our attention to the Community Board posts. I will forward your email to the appropriate department. Often times, the can't connect to server message is due to a delay in the ATX service starting. Usually within a moment or so the service starts and then software can then open. However, I do appreciate your letting us know about the complaints.
  19. No, the print packets don't give you access to everything. I almost always have to rearrange the letters and cover sheets when printing a return for the first time, but I check the Remember box at the bottom so it stays right when I inevitably have to reprint the return.
  20. I never connected him with Hans Gruber until recently. That's how good of an actor he was.
