  1. My letters are highly customized. I went to rollover in 2015 and it says I have 0 global letter templates. Do I copy/paste or export/import?
  2. Since the 1st of the year, I've noticed that the 2014 server is not running until you start ATX. On slower computers, this will likely give you a 'cannot connect' error the first time you start after booting.
  3. No way would I go with 10. I don't need the headaches. I know all my software and peripherals work with 8.
  4. I only went with 8 because I was getting new computers and I was on XP. I don't think I've ever updated an OS on an existing computer. Strongly in the 'ain't broke, don't fix it' club.
  5. The organizer questions are sorely lacking and need a major revision. I just put a long post over in the Enhancements forum about this. Attached is what I spent more time on than I really wanted to. I know some of you have your own questionnaire in excel, but that would make an already tedious task, more tedious. ATX needs to work on this. 2015 Organizer Questions.pdf
  6. My opinion is that anyone who says the HATE 8, has not spent a month working with it. It's far superior to 7, but not so different that you can't switch back and forth. If you're a heavy menu user (I'm not), then install an add-on menu. I just have my main programs pinned to my taskbar and usually start them with WinKey+#, where # is the number of the icon (1,2,...). Secondary programs are in the Quick Launch toolbar (Yes, it's still there. Let me know if you can't find how to add it to your taskbar.) Any my desktop is still covered with well organized icons.
  7. The sooner the better. I just wish ATX would fix the bug so the organizer letter and organizer engagement letter is added automatically. It's going to be a pain to add them all manually.
  8. I have manually scanned/printed and filed all documents as PDFs for about 13 years. Every 'file cabinet' software I've looked at does not let you access your PDFs without using their software. I don't like that, and I've yet to find any problem that file cabinet software can solve, or any efficiency I could gain.
  9. There will only be one paycheck in December so all forms will be filed on time.
  10. Well the secret is to do some work you love, to give your life meaning and structure, even it's a nonpaying position. I already volunteer at a local nonprofit theater, in several capacities. And I want to get back into Habitat for Humanity. It's fun to build houses! And when you're this old, you need an exercise schedule. And then there's the grandkids! So I'll be plenty busy. Fortunately for me, there's very little I want to watch on tv, so I'm not going to be one of those 'sit and rot' people watching The Price is Right until I die.
  11. EXACTLY! I love 8/8.1. It remains my favorite windows OS ever. People were upset because their menu was gone, when in fact it was just a different looking menu, which I actually preferred. But whenever I go back to work on a win7 machine, I cringe at how hard things are to accomplish, how awful the UI is, and how often things simply don't work that well.

  13. To answer the question, you only file 2553, but you'll have to file it under the rev proc for late elections. It will most likely be approved. I've had to do several late 2553s this year.
  14. When I searched for the article, I limited results to the last month, so it's a recent article. I think the party's over for s corps with multiple employees and no group plan. We can add to W2 for 2015, after that, we just have to increase wages for shareholder and employees who buy individual policies.
  15. Here's an AICPA article on S corp shareholders, confirming what others have said.
  16. Wow. I just turned 59. No way I can keep doing this till I'm 70. I might work part time for some other preparer(s), if they'll have me.
  17. Jeez, I hope there are some younger folks on here or this place is going to get really quiet in a few years... unless some of you are planning on working until 70.
  18. It's still a partnership, they're just losing the liability protection of the LLC. If it's not expensive to keep the LLC, I would recommend they keep it. Also, they would need to go through a title change to put the property in their individual names, or a new partnership name (non-LLC).
  19. I saw there was an Adobe Flash update this morning so I went to Windows Update and there was KB3035583 (the only windows update number I've ever memorized) as a recommended update. Be careful out there!
  20. My first tax season was 1980 but I've been in and out of the public practice over my career. But, yeah, the end is near.
  21. Uninstall KB3035583 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/remove-update#1TC=windows-7 After you uninstall it, go into Windows Update and hide it by right-clicking on it and choosing hide.
  22. Assistant to the PR Specialist Lotta B. Essen
  23. They are written down already. http://www.cartalk.com/content/staff-credits
  24. I would include it in expense of sale (basis) instead of reducing the selling price.
