Thanks, but no luck.

No, Judy, that's the first thing I tried. I'm just gonna have them paper file MS and get it outta here. Thanks for trying!

OK, I really think I've entered everything I need to in Preparer Manager, including my e-mail address. I even shut down the program and reopened. Still I get this error when I try to create MS 80-205 e-file, and I notice that my e-mail does NOT show up on the MS E-File Info: "Per Mississippi valid paid preparer name, ID number, phone number, address, and e-mail address must all be entered into the preparer manager in order to transmit the return electronically." Anybody able to straighten me out?

I don't understand why it's more logical to hold out more from the person with no penalty to pay, but yeah, it's up to the taxpayer to handle this stuff. If they need our help figuring it out, they should ask us. And if they see that somebody dropped the ball, they can always send in estimated tax payments, as KC said. They are without excuse. Taxpayer should have picked up the phone and asked you what to do if they didn't know. Sorry to seem harsh, but good grief, taxpayers, take some initiative.

Regrets? I've had a few. Here's an article with some samples, sorry got nothing on my computer at the moment. I like vague, and I don't recommend another preparer, unless I really want to stick it the client and I recommend the hateful woman who overcharges. Well, sweetie I can be as contrary as the next guy, and I did find in the Instructions that one purpose of Form 1040-X is to correct 1040. They filed incorrectly. They need to correct 1040. They're not trying to amend MFJ to MFS, they're not married. They're single. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040x.pdf
-
Well, if you put it that way...
-
They have filed incorrectly, owe tax more than likely, and the question was can they amend? Well, of course they can amend to correct perjury. They are not married. They filed incorrectly. The poster is not trying to twist their arms.
-
Well, yes, and they have an obligation to do so.
-
I've had a client disassemble a return, too. What is that about anyhow?? I mean, why would anybody do that? Did they think, "Oh, they don't need to know THAT..."?

A traditional IRS is already a tax deferred account, so if the funds are being deducted from the IRA, the money paying the fees has not been taxed. You'd be double dipping and only preachers can do that with mortgage interest, property tax and housing allowance. Don't get me started. You beat me, Tom. But I still love you.
-
OK, you may be right, check out the chart on the link below. My brain is fuzzy, too, but I think you're good. And, remember with ROTH IRAs you take out contributions first, so he can make a withdrawal tax and penalty free in 2014 even if we can't count as long as he has enough basis to do so. I think it's more of a "Mid-Life-Crises-How-Many-Cars-Can-I-Buy" technique as he has provided me with the sales tax amount for three vehicles purchased in 2014. But I ain't judging or anything.

Dear Client, Thank you for telling me you are going to owe "them bastards" $10,000 when you dropped off. I would have never known that if you hadn't clued me in. Also, thanks for explaining to me what a 1099-R is cause I would never have known that you took money out of your 401k early from these forms and the fact that you are 45. It's like Mission Impossible deducing what these strange looking papers mean. Thank God I have you to help me muddle through. And guess what? It's more like $15,000.

I don't know anythang about rednecks, but I was wondering if I was the only one with a quiet office today. I love it. Got my stack here of patient people's stuff and peace and quiet. So of course, I am using my time wisely and chatting it up with you guys. -
Best one ever. Tailpipe. I'm dying. OMG, I may laugh all day.
-
I would send the e-files, assuming they signed the 8879, and act like you don't know a thing about the goof. And it is ok to kill that client.
-
Well, hmmm, obviously I didn't know that. Wow. Thank you very much. I'm a little amazed. Not the first time, probably won't be the last...

KC said Mom gets 100% step up in CA. I think Mom gets 50% step up for federal. Which is, as you say, 100% of Dad's half.
-
Dear New Client From NY: No I do not want to buy a T-shirt from you.
-
Is that just for the CA return? Not the federal, right?

It looks like I will have something to do after April 15th

I had one earlier in the season, started calling and checking on the "progress" about four days in. I called her and told her she could come and pick up her forms and take them elsewhere, no hard feelings. She said, "Well, I needed the refund a month ago." I had to bite my tongue to keep form saying, "Well, then, I needed your forms six weeks ago. That's how this works." I am so glad to be rid of her.
