It looks like I will have something to do after April 15th
RitaB replied to rfassett's topic in General Chat
Oh, yeah, most of my extensions will be done way after April 22, but I could see he might drop dead right there in my office, and I was trying to win him as a client and/or keep him alive. Was willing to put him at the top of the stack. Well, that went over like a fart in a spacesuit - he was one of those terrified of audit or something. Got him this year plus amended the one I didn't do, so it worked out. -

I love it when they don't balk. I always have one or two that freak out. Last year, a potential new guy just couldn't take the idea of having it done April 22 rather than 15. Went to a free service. Came back in July: "Can you amend this return for me, and forgive me?" Saw him last week and it's love all around now. God made extensions for a reason, people, staauup yer unbelief. Amen and amen. -

Sounds like he has some minions. Just a few.

When dad died, mom gets his half at FMV on DOD. Now she owns it all. She gifts half to son, and the gift basis depends upon whether he sells at a loss or gain. When mom died, son gets her half at FMV on DOD. http://www.irs.gov/publications/p551/ar02.html#en_US_201412_publink1000257012

Life is full of regrets. We can use one more.

Anything is possible on March 21st. Hahahaha!

"Hello, Rita, this is 85 year-old Taxpayer, I was wondering how much you charge for a simplified return?" (Discuss, discuss, blah, blah.) "Well, my return is very simplified, but let me tell you: I screwed it up royally for two years in a row, and my husband says you are doing it from now on or he's trading me in."

I wish somebody would give me a gift of 14k. Or gasoline with FMV 14k. Or Cadbury mini eggs. Ok, carry on.

Dear Client Again, Thank you for waiting until you got everything and bringing it in Monday. Thank you for calling Thursday to say oh ha ha just kidding I got another form. Your record oh ha ha just kidding I got another form is pretty much out of reach now. Congratulations and yeah I'm not touching your stuff for three weeks.

WORD, Sista. Especially on prior year returns. I hate backing up the truck in March.

There is a picture of this in the dictionary under "No good deed goes unpunished."

Did not turn out that way last year (they brought copies), but we shall see. In 10 -14 days.

I had new couple come in today, six W-2s with four states. Seemed shocked (shocked) when I told them it would be 10 - 14 days. "Wow, we really need the refunds." Yeah, I guess that's why you waited five weeks after getting your W-2s to find a preparer. Also shocked that I charge per state. Really?? You know, I am less and less surprised at the stupid people say.

Eh, she just thinks her daughter-in-law and son know more than me. And I put up with that because two universities need my tuition dollars. That will not last forever. Then the daughter-in-law will get to feel my pain.

Well, I love everybody right now! Just finished the return of the biggest PITA client in the history of the world. Ever. Has a daughter-in-law who's an EA, and a son who's a CPA, and you know that feeling when somebody tells you what you can do on the return? Yeah, that feeling. Lean into it with me. And yeah, recall that feeling when you resist the urge to say, "Now why the hell am I doing your return again?" Yippee, I made it thru another year of not saying that to her. Go me!

I have noticed the people complaining the most have 1095-A forms and I'm dying to tell them to shut up, I am paying my own health insurance and yours, too.

Depends on how much I learn.

Seriously, though, it amazes me that people think we do their returns in stages. What is this - a garden? And also that they apparently think we don't really care about getting paid. We just pile up finished returns for the nice feeling we get inside.

But don't try to deduct the value of your time on your tax return. Tax tip of the day. ;)

I was going to suggest if there are a lot, go back to 2012 and try rolling over. You are correct, unless there's a ton of assets, it's easier to re-enter than wait on tech.

Guy in here whining because his insurance cost $467 a month. Me: It actually cost $210, didn't it? Your subsidy was $257? You gotta get up preeetty early to get that past tax preparers, people.

I want a shock device that zaps them second and subsequent times they say, "I didn't know how that worked."

"Unexpected Error Program Needs to Close"? Try this!

Not obnoxious does not mean timid. Jesus threw a premeditated fit in the temple that day. Made a whip. And I respect Him to the utmost. You, too. But, yeah, I can whack them in tech support, no problem.
