  1. I'll try it again. I was clicking the link after it grayed out. But wasn't going anywhere. Thanks.
  2. For those who have the Intelliconnect. The latest update is supposed to allow us to click on a line and take us to the research for that line item. Also, hovering the cursor on the line will give us a popup. I am getting the popup and there is a link to go to the tax research but when I put my cursor on that link, the link grays out and doesn't take me to the research. Also when I right click on a form item, I get the popup menu but when I click on the tax research line item, it doesn't take me to the research. I can click on the Tax Research button at top and it takes me to the research but only to the opening screen of Intelliconnect. I was under the impression the new update would take me not only to the tax research but to the specific topic of the form line item. Anyone else trying this in ATX?
  3. I've not noticed the autosave much. I tend to save the return when I'm working on it, when I close the return and several times if I have the return open for a while.
  4. I've not had that problem so far.
  5. This is what I do too. I also like to check 'Incomplete', sort by create date and print a list so I have a to do list in order they came in with info (and how far I'm behind).
  6. My scanner is the older ScanSnap S500. It's 10 years old.
  7. I tried scanning my own. My 10yr old scanner wouldn't take it thru. I'll have to use the copier. Need to set on lightest exposure and expand size in order to read it. Will probably get a new scanner this summer when I get a new computer. Anyone else having trouble scanning drivers license?
  8. Yes, if you have the info. I'm going to try to remember to get the info from everyone so I'll have it when required.
  9. Working on a 1065. I see Ky is finally able to efile the business returns this year (partnerships and SCorps). Won't be available until Feb 13 but I can wait. No more printing the Ky form and an extra Fed 1065 to send with it. Anyone else have that problem with their state business returns? Don't know if it was ATX or the state of Ky but finally got relief this year.
  10. I'm getting the warning too but it's in yellow, not red. So for KY, no problem. I'll have to get the info for my OH clients and I have one for AL.
  11. I don't have too many. But the truncated SSNs are only on the client (Payer) copy. So I've been leaving them truncated.
  12. I've already experienced this!!
  13. Thanks, I hadn't checked it yet for this year.
  14. Last year, Alabama required it. Ohio requires either drivers license number or an email address. And the email address can be the paid preparer email.
  15. Do you complete a 1099 with only the name and amount paid if you don't have ssn and address? I think I've done this in the past. The client would later receive a notice regarding missing info. I was wondering what can you do.
  16. I agree John, a moving target. I think I had 2-3 last year. I don't think we can do anything other than prepare the returns with the penalty and go forward as Jack said.
  17. Trump has signed an executive order that instructs agencies to stop enforcing the penalty. I'm not sure of the details. But I was wondering how that affects us preparing the returns. Do we calculate the penalty, include it in the clients' returns. I'm thinking we still have to do so. I would assume the executive order would have to do with the IRS, not us. If a client has a refund due of $1000 and has a $200 penalty, would the IRS refund him $1200? Or if the client owed $1000 and had a $200 penalty, client paid $1000, would the IRS refund him the $200? Would we even be able to efile the return without the penalty info included?
  18. Thanks. That's what I told the client (would be household employee) but wanted to double check. I told client it would be easier to go thru a company who provided the service and not just a particular individual.
  19. Would an in home healthcare worker be considered a household employee? If not, an individual would not be required to issue a 1099, right?
  20. Currently using W8.1. I'll go W10 when I buy a new system. I keep my previous computer for the back years. Only bring the current year ATX onto the new computer so I can rollover the next year. For QB, can't get some clients to upgrade. Some are still using a real old version of QB. I don't think the Accountant's copy is compatible except for one year back so I have to use an older QB version if I want to use the Accountant changes function.
  21. Definitely not recommended. Since I started getting computers with two HDs (a SSD and regular HD), I changed the ATX to D drive the first year. But ATX was putting things in the C drive anyway and I learned the hard way it was not good. After that first year, I put ATX on C drive and kept everything to do with ATX on C drive. I put my PDFs on the other drive and copy the ATX backup files to my other drive and also onto my external HDs. Same thing for QB and other programs, all on C drive. The software just has too many things going on interfacing that I will never be able to follow. Let the software do its thing all on the one drive.
  22. I don't know enough of the technical stuff to do this. But I've suspected a lot of this doesn't get you back to where you were. I copy all my data and files on external HDs. In the case of a computer meltdown, my plan has always been to buy a new system, install my programs and copy my files onto the new system.
  23. I use Acrobat Pro. But also ShareFile (is FileShare the same?). My question is how safe is this? The client uses his email address as his id and then creates a password. But can someone else intercept the notification email, click the link, enter the client's email address and create his own password? I've been wondering about that.
  24. Ok, that explains it.
