  1. Notice the footnote. 'Subject to interpretation by IRS. Be sure to consult your tax professional.' Ha. We are the tax professionals.
  2. Can an employee still request a flat dollar withholding in addition to whatever the table shows? Seems like they could do so in the past without trying to navigate the W4.

    HSA vs 401k

Not so sure. I'll have to look up sometime.
  4. Not sure of your specific example. But I was wondering too about a couple with children. Joint standard deduction goes up but they lose the personal exemptions. Maybe for some, the child credits increase.
  5. Pacun, thanks. I had already done the import though. Abby, thanks for the info. These tiles appear at the top and looks like the number is limited to 8. By default, they will show the most recent. I can pin a tile to show up all the time. This looks helpful but limited. The previous W8 IE11 showed the Favorites drop down list in the form of tiles at the bottom of the screen and allowed sorting into sub-categories just as the Edge drop down list does.
  6. Yes, this is what I was looking for, tiles within the browser.
  7. It's under Windows Accessories in the list of apps. It opens up the IE browser but it doesn't help. With Win8, within the browser, there was star at the bottom. When I clicked the star, a row of tiles popped up across the bottom showing my favorite websites. In Win10, using the IE, this function isn't there. There is the star in upper right which gives me a pop down list of favorites. This feature is also in Edge. No tiles of favorites across the bottom. Oh well.
  8. I don't mind Edge (so far). I was just looking for a way to show the favorites as tiles across the bottom of the screen (instead of the pop down list).
  9. I'm trying to get used to my Win10 desktop. I liked the tiles of Win8. Win10 seems to have a combo look. My question is for the browser. Win8 used IE11 I think. It had the website tiles at the bottom to quickly go to my most common websites. With Win 10 using the Edge browser, I don't see the tiles. There's a pop down list for favorites but is there a way to display the tiles for favorites?

    HSA vs 401k

I'm not sure what you mean by the FICA connection with HSAs. I don't know if the HSA plan is thru the employer but individual HSA contributions are after FICA or SE tax. Also with HSAs, I don't think health insurance premiums are a qualified expense for HSA money. So if you are thinking about the HSA money used in retirement, you'll need to use on qualified medical expenses or it will be taxable.
  11. Yes, while they were hashing it out the past few months, I didn't pay much attention. But once the joint committee approved and Corker & Rubio got on board, it was highly probable. Senate has passed it, House will re-vote today. President will sign. It's time to review it and discuss it. I received a summary from Parker after the joint committee approved it and skimmed thru it, the first time I gave it any attention.
  12. The immediate concerns for IRS and us is what might be in it that pertains to 2017.
  13. Maybe this week or die.
  14. I think 1040 Sch A Misc deductions subject to 2% floor.
  15. I'm not sure but isn't that standard practice? The new insurer covers the past years. Then when you retire, I think they offer some extension for a year or two (extra premium of course).
  16. Do you mean query within ATX or a query on this forum? If ATX, where and how?
  17. Parker Tax sends two emails a month with their service. I also continue to subscribe to the old PPC Tax Action Bulletins which come twice a month.
  18. Hopefully we'll know the final outcome in two weeks. Pro or con.

    back up

I do two things with ATX. I copy the backup files and I export (from within the program) the files. I do this from my c drive to my internal 2nd hd. And I do this to an external hd.
  20. Are you allowed to do this when it's registered with the old machine? How can they sell this? If it is a download version, how do they get this and resell? or whatever?
  21. Anyone using Office 365? I'm planning to purchase a new computer for my office. I have a laptop I use mostly at home and I'm not replacing that. I currently have Office Pro 2013 on both my office desktop and my laptop. I'm thinking it would be better and cheaper to subscribe to Office 365 than to get the latest Office Pro 2016 on my HD. Any pros and cons on Office 365?
  22. Does the S1500 scan drivers licenses and other hard thick plastic items? My S500 wouldn't let it thru.
  23. Good question. I've been using Bit Locker on my 8.1 machine. But I have my laptop (8.1) encrypted with Symantec. I have the Symantec software on my office machine. I like their shredding function of files.
  24. Not sure what you're talking about but I think you can just encrypt certain files, can't you?
  25. Whew. I think we're approaching too big NOT to fail. Even when I bought my 8.1 three years ago, Symantec was not ready to use on my HD. So I used Bit Locker. I haven't had any problems with updates. It looks like I'll use Bit Locker on my new computer Win 10.
