Well, since my DSL connnection was down for nearly a week, I missed the beginning of the learning curve. I was totally lost the first time I accessed the Community after being back UP as of yesterday. I cannot say that I like it, but some of us older members don't take well to change. I will persevere and learn. This was a very frustrating week with no Internet Access, 2 days of Tax Education and getting a new Cell Phone. Too much new stuff for an older gal, but I am sure that in a few weeks, it will all seem as though it has always been there. Thanks Eric, for all that you do for us.
  2. From the ATX Support: Problem: You have reinstalled ATX and suddenly all of your returns no longer show in Return Manager. Cause: You have ATX installed to a network drive. You then reinstall from the CD but it reinstalls the software to C:\Program Files\ instead of the network location. This will typically happen when you have installed ATX to C:\Program Files\ initially and then moved the ATX2008 folder to a network drive without running NetSetup.exe again. Solution: Run X:\ATX2008\NetSetup\NetSetup.exe (where X:\ is the network drive). Afterwards, the necessary files should be updated to point to the correct location for the reinstall. Just reinstall from the CD again. It is also a good idea to go back and delete the copy of ATX2008 that got installed to C:\Program Files\. This will prevent any confusion later on. Additional Information: Once you have selected Custom Installation, the first time you install ATX, you will no longer be able to select which location ATX installs to. The software will continue to remember where it was last installed to. The only way to get this option back is to uninstall and then reinstall. Brannan Edwards ATX - Technical Subject Matter Expert
  3. Are you sure you installed it to the correct drive and directory?
  4. I had to change mine when DST went into effect a couple of weekends ago. My computer changed automatically, but the board time did not.
  5. You do NOT have to start withdrawing at 59 1/2. The requirement is 70 1/2 and that has even been waived in this terrible economy. I generally recommend the Simple or Conventional unless the client is very young. With good financial planning from 59 1/2 on,; you can usually get away with paying little or no income tax on the distributions that were not taxed when they were invested. Each case is different.
  6. Generally, if the purchaser is not a New York Resident, where you collect the Sales Tax, they are on their honor to pay the sales tax to their state of residence. Here in Wisconsin, there is a line on the WI tax return where we are to report all purchases (on the internet or otherwise) where Sales Tax was not assessed. A good example is the ATX program. When I file my WI tax return, I calculate the 5.5% tax that I did not pay to other states and pay it along with my WI tax liability. That is how it works here, I don't know about other states. I know that this is a HUGE problem and that they want to create some kind of universal system where everybody who buys something out of state, pays the tax to that state. Good Luck with that! It is an honor system and lots of people don't have any honor. (Until they get audited).
  7. ATX is projecting shipment of the first release that same week. They shipped the archive disk this past week. So, at least on that point, ATX and TRX are in sync.
  8. Margaret, go to "My Controls" Upper right; then go way to bottom in left hand column and find "Board Settings" Click on that and you will be able to change your time. I had to adjust for Daylight Savings Time.
  9. Very Important!!!! And very much appreciated! Foreign country or Stateside (as we found out last week) as LS said, "Some Gave All".
  10. I,for one of many, have missed you Julie. In fact, just mentioned you to another preparer the other day. Stick with us and hope you had a great birthday.
  11. Chances are that if they are looking for something, they will give you time to find it. In my experience, my clients found things that the auditor was not looking for and came up with deductions that he had overlooked originally.
  12. This issue is the least of my worries. It is not even a done deal yet and so many are in an uproar. As someone said, this is a free country and there are bound to be opt outs for those that want them. Personally, I have no clients who do not embrace the tecnological wonders of e-file and fast refunds or even the direct debits on chosen dates.
  13. Check out http://www.filehippo.com/
  14. Yes, Maribeth, I had the same funny feeling as you. But, whatever the outcome, everyone here seems to be on their guard.
  15. My roses are all pruned, mulched and covered for winter. They have already been covered with snow a couple of times. Mine range from old fashioned to carpet to trellis climbers and have all been planted with love and sentiment. Some have originated from my Grandmother's yard. As for the original thread, I don't have a clue what half of you are talking about. So, what does that make me?
  16. That is pretty much my situation. They wore out their welcome long ago as has TRX with their persistent "courting" even after several refusals from me. I no longer take these calls.
  17. Dear MARILYN CHAMPINE, For the First Time In the History of TaxSlayer Pro: The "Whatever It Takes" Sale! November 4th and 5th 2009 Call Today and Make Your Best Offer! All Offers Will Be Considered. 1-888-420-1040 *This sale applies to TaxSlayer Pro Classic Only*
  18. Taxbilly.......perhaps you would be kind enough to post that link to product enhancements once again for the benefit of all ATXers who are "in the dark". Thank you...........
  19. Since the post about the enhancements for ATX this year sort of got lost in another thread, I am starting a new one.; because so many of us were disappointed when the mini disappeared. I opened a difficult return. Added both Organizers to the return. Went to print.; chose to print the new short one and then went down a little further and checked the pages I wanted for Sch C business and Rental. Worked perfectly. Oh Joy!!! There is even a place for Attestation and Signature on the bottom of the first page of the Basic Information. AND, all of the info for itemized deductions is once again on one page that matches up with the Sch A. As I look through it, there are other enhancements and some pages that I can eliminate, but I am extremely pleased with this HUGE change. Thank you ATX for listening.
  20. That change in the Organizer options was something that we begged them to return to us and they actually listened. I, cautiously and hopefully, agree with you that they don't plan on dumping the program any time soon. I DO hope that the uni-forms will still be usable as I have nearly a box full. :D
  21. Awesome....I am printing as I type. Thanks taxbilly!
  22. None taken. I posted as a knee-jerk reaction and should have stuck to the subject of the thread. I agree with those who are apprehensive in regard to Guardian or any other software that solicits through the resources of any tax board, and at this late date most of us have made up our minds in which direction we are headed. TRX is still calling me at least weekly and leaving long, detailed messages. I am no longer taking their calls.
  23. OOPS! My husband owns a Used Car Dealership and has been an honest and respected businessman for 37 years! I will, however, forgive your slip of the lip. Lots of people don't like or trust tax preparers and accountants either.
  24. Yes, 30% of the cost capped at a max of $1500.
  25. Thanks to all of you......the spies are out. I had no idea that I was that close until I sent the post. I guess Old Jack is right, I should spend more time working, but I truly love this board and any time I can offer some insight, even if it is wrong, it is a learning experience for me or someone. Thanks for your appreciation. Everyone on this board deserves the same.
