Want me to send her to Tennessee?

Not really logical. The audit that is being conducted in my office is a case in point. The auditor claims it was a random pick. However, the client had major medical bills that would raise a question. They were legit. This auditor has already spent two full days in my office; traveling 30 miles one way from her home and who knows when it will end. In the meantime, we sit here watching our tax dollars going up in smoke. Once they start, they look at EVERYTHING and she is waiting for the subpoena of his banking records to be revealed to her. This fellow is phasing out of his small carpentry business as he is already receiving SS. Wouldn't you think that they would stop beating a dead horse. At best, they could never collect as much as this is costing. This is a 2013 tax return. Bah Humbug!!!

Does anyone use an alternative location for data and/or backup?

With the jump drive, I use export/import; is done really fast. I use backup with my external backup software. -

I would never attempt to change the backup location on the computer itself. I know that I have a complete and true backup every year and can move it from computer to computer. If your hard drive crashes, what good is an internal backup? -
I just picked up the most beautiful stainless steel and glass desk lamp at an estate sale for $5. I am keeping it, but how much would your average shyster put down as the value if they were to donate it to good will? It is really heavy and could also be used as a weapon. Just Sayin'

I use a jump drive as I am working on the returns. Keep exporting until it is finished. Then I use alternating external hard drives to back up the entire system once a week. -
I, too, am physically and mentally exhausted already. Just told my husband this AM that I am not sure I will be able to make it. Can you believe that already by Feb 8, people are calling to see if their taxes are done yet. I made a firm resolve this year to finish each one as they come in; no exceptions. However, I HATE that kind of pressure. The assistant I hired last year doesn't want to get her feet wet even after taking the HRB course. Today, she will be doing my ironing; which at least is something. It is terrible to wake up exhausted. Let's hope it's just a bad mood day.

Well, you know that it is going to be at least six months and one day.

This kind of news breaks my heart. Especially when we have to make the decision. Our little friends are so helpless...........

I always type the date in before I give it to them to sign. Just sayin'! Is there one among us who hasn't slipped at least once in January or February?

I feel lucky with you. I have an old-fashioned fax machine with the ringer shut off. What really drives me nuts though are the folks on the opposite end of the chain who come in with a handful of envelopes.......none of them opened. Thankfully, we have an outside wood burner. Hubby takes all the junk to the incinerator.

I also use AT&T. We have five phones (3 Smart and 2 Dumb) plus my tablet at a reasonable price and a lot of unlimited usages as well as 10G of shared data which we never even come close to using. In addition, the unused data rolls over. My tablet will use WiFi if it is available and automatically switch to data if there is no WiFi. Actually they had a promotion whereby I was able to get a new Samsung tablet, which I love, free with a 2 year contract; which I already had with the old tablet. I took the old one in and AT&T transferred all of my pictures and contacts to the mini SD card.

The one that I had last year created their own form with each item listed with the value. It was a salon with 6 rooms plus Miscellaneous. She very nicely separated each item and room and then had a Summary of Rooms with the total value. You are probably talking about a much larger company than this, which was a Sole Proprietor LLC

I just assumed it was an antenna. (Moral: Assume Nothing!)

I had to do just that today. This was a client for several years. Last year they made an appointment and never showed up or called to cancel. This year he calls begging me to take him back. Last year they went to Liberty and he said it was like dealing with the Mafia. He weakened my resolve on SUNDAY, of all days and even at 4 times the prior prep charge, he wanted to come back. Today, I sent him a polite email stating that now that I had time to think it over, we would both be better served if he were to find someone else. I simply could not fit him into my busy schedule. He had forfeited that privilege last year. He returned a kind email thanking me for my time and wishing me well. You have no idea how much better I feel. I had a bad feeling about this apple and suggested he might want to take it to a VITA preparer since he has so many issues. Even my husband is glad that I got rid of him.; because he called four times on Sunday; left a long message as well as a long email. He was a little upset that I hadn't responded. All of the above suggestions are good and correct. Even Doctors have to refer out patients that they have issues with.

All is well, as far as I can see. Some really nice little surprises.

Agree totally. My youngest just started college. Once these babies start coming, life is all about them.; just as it was about our children.

I also fill it out except for very, very small partnerships that I did not set up.

Thanks Lion. This just does not seem right to me, but everything I have read says that she gets the EIC. Wow!!! What a tangled web we weave. Just so happens that this is not her year to claim the dependency, but because she changed jobs, her income is much lower than prior years and she had child for more days than father.
-
I just went back and re-read this entire thread. So, is it correct that a divorced parent can claim the EIC even though it is not her year to take the child as a dependent. She qualifies, father does not. She is filing HOH though they have joint custody, but if she had child for more days it qualifies her for HOH. My mind is just a'churning here.

I thought you were going to say that you solved it by sleeping in your clothes.

I thought I was the only one!!

I have such a situation. Father and Son are partners. Draws to them are either Personal or GP if the money is based on a sales condition. Other son is not a partner but does the majority of the selling. His payments are Commissions and taxed as SE because his payment is based on his actual sales. No sell; no pay!
