  1. Thanks for saying that. It drove me crazy. I am really picky about spelling and grammar.
  2. Thanks everyone for the comments. I am still researching. My son is really pushing me to have one built, but I still worry about getting it fixed right away like Dell always has. I know that it costs more to purchase a big name, but heck I still have a great Sony Vaio at home that's at least 7 years old and is still running very well for a home computer. I can't wait too long so that I can get everything transferred and running before January.
  3. Thank you very much. I am hoping that I can find a way to get my HP Laserjet 4200 to work with Windows 7. I will check on my Scansnap to see if it will work. It won't be a big deal if I have to buy a new one.
  4. I am researching new computers, and have the option of a Windows downgrade to XP Pro with Windows 7. I don't know if it is necessary or if it's just a good idea to have that option. I am using XP now. I know that I can have one built, but I have used my warranties a few times with Dell and they have more than paid for themselves. They have always had me back in business quickly. My longest wait has been when I have had to take my computers into a local shop. I leave the desktop on 24-7, so it does get a lot of use. I love my Dimension 8400, but it is over 5 years old and is starting to act up. Thanks! Bonnie
  5. I'm here, I've got a bunch of extensions that I'm waiting for and way too many past years returns. I need to do research because I have to get a new computer and I hate it. It is such a pain to transfer everything and get my VPN set up again. I wish that I knew more about hardware, but I can only do so much. Going to Orlando in October. My 16 year old has been flying solo all summer, so I spend a lot of time, tracking him with the tracker in his phone, on flight aware and I finally broke down and got a Spot GPS tracker for him to take in the plane. The last straw was when he had engine trouble in Sioux City and his instructor told him to fly it back at 55 MPH, instead of waiting for someone to come get him. His instructor has changed his tune, since and he won't be flying in a broken plane again. That one has been grounded since his flight five weeks ago. I've aged about 10 years since his birthday.
  6. Jainen, I don't know what kind of business clients you have, but here in Nebraska, many of my clients don't keep computerized records. I still have several clients that use Dome bookkeeping books. Many of them use even more primitive records. They don't keep their records by vendor. I have around 200 small businesses and only about 20 keep their records on a computer. You are very lucky to have clients that are able to compile all of this new information easily. It is going to be a huge nightmare for my and my clients. Bonnie
  7. The service-bureau business would interest me. I always used Click-send when ATX had that available.
  8. What about the business clients where we don't prepare the bookkeeping? I have around 100 that do their own books, but will still have to keep these records. It will be a nightmare for me, because they will now expect me to prepare the 1099's for them because they won't have a clue how to do it. Yes, it may be profitable, but I hate January already, because of payroll returns, 1099's, early tax returns and corporations that are ready to be prepared. I will let my clients know that if they pay by credit card, they won't have to issue 1099's for those purchases, but I will not advise them to use their credit cards more. I'm sorry, but I have clients that already have trouble paying their bills. I'm not encouraging them to go deeper in debt. This may be OK if you have employees or clerical help, but it will be miserable for those that do all of our own work.
  9. I have no idea how I am going to be able to comply to this new rule without firing clients. I am a one person office with one desktop and a laptop. I don't have or need a network and do not want to hire anyone. I am barely able to keep up with the work that I have, so I may just start looking for a job and dump my practice. I can't imagine trying to get my clients to gather all of the information that I will need just to file the new ones. I only file 1099s for about 15 clients now, but this will drag in all of my tax return only small businesses. I am just sick about this. I have written to my congressmen, but I don't think that anything will stop this mess. I will give the IRS my comments, but I'm sure that they will ignore them, since they pretty much don't care about small business owners at all. Bonnie
  10. Ken, my biggest concern is the printing of returns. It is cumbersome, but at least better now that I am E-filing and not printing out as many pages. I really like the program and will continue to use it as long as they don't raise the price too much. I also really miss Kleinrock. Bonnie
  11. Thanks. It's also so hard to get rid of the entire anti-virus program without some computer whiz to help pull out the remnants. I'm still deciding what to do. My Mcafee is fixed now and since I have to buy a new computer this summer, I might just stick it out and start over fresh.
  12. I agree. I got a stupid E-mail saying that I could save 10% if I renewed by May 31. I'm not going to be that stupid again. I've done that every year and every year they give other people that same discount even though they wait to renew. It's ridiculous that they don't give a ##*? about their loyal customers.
  13. You will have to change the 2441 and report the entire $6,900 that you paid to daycare. I haven't seen the CP2000, but you will probably have to file a 1040X.
  14. Thanks, I will check these out. I really am looking for something that won't continue to use a bunch of memory, like Mcafee.
  15. I got caught up in that Mcafee mess yesterday and it's hopefully fixed now, thanks to VMS. My subscription is about to run out and I am looking for a good security suite that will play well with ATX and Windows XP. I will be getting a new computer this summer, but I probably want to switch software now. I had Norton before and it caused lots of problems, but maybe they are better now. Thanks! Bonnie
  16. I wasn't thinking about taking the credit. I never thought that it would work. The remaining sister was trying to come up with a way that her son could get the $6,500 credit. She called me back and said that after she thought it out, that she agreed with me that it wouldn't work.
  17. Client inherited house from parents and owned it as tenants in common with her sister for a few months. Her sister passed away and now she wants to sell her sister's 1/2 of the house to her son and daughter-in law and thinks that they should qualify for the $6,500 credit. They would otherwise qualify for the credit, but I just don't think that this is correct. They would then own the house as tenants in common. Am I being too conservative? I couldn't find this scenario anywhere. I just don't have much imagination, I guess. ANy comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
  18. I haven't had to use the ATX site to check for my ACKS before, can you only check for one at a time, really? It used to show all of my returns. I guess I'll just try tomorrow.
  19. I love your license plate! I think that I just got my last extension sent. I have to go through the drawers one more time to make sure that I didn't miss anything. Now I can concntrate on what really scares me. My son turns 16 in two weeks and will get his license and is supposed to fly solo on his birthday. If no one hears from me after May 3rd, it's because I had a heart attack and died at the airport watching my baby fly by himself. Hope you get to leave soon.
  20. I'm still here filing extensions. My last client left at 8 to go mail their checks. I was really hoping to take tomorrow off, but I may have to keep checking for rejects. I can't believe that I have so many extensions and I still finished more returns than last year. Of course, tons of people want their returns finished next week, so I'll have to kill myself again to get them done and the payroll and property taxes filed. Thanks for all of the help! Bonnie
  21. I must need different customers. I have so many huge returns and too many complications. I still have three returns to finish and a bunch of extensions. I have never worked so hard and so many hours. This year has just sucked the life out of me. Bonnie
  22. Fuuny, my stepson (whop knows everything) tried to tell me that I should write off all of his commuting miles because he works on the railroad tracks. I told him that he should do his own return. All of his buddies told him that their preparer writes theirs off. He doesn't travel any farther than most people around here.
