  1. Somehow I get the feeling they are not really worried about that piece; the dad risked being clapped in jail to make the story public (he was under a gag order - almost always reserved for criminal cases - for a year until he broke it out of worry for his daughter's deteriorating health).

  3. Interview with Justina linked in the article that I am linking: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/06/30/no-one-should-be-put-through-that-no-one-justina-pelletier-speaks-out-on-her-treatment-while-under-govt-care/
  4. Anyone know of someone who specializes in forensic accounting in the NYC area? An acquaintance is looking for someone but doesn't know where to start a search for someone good. TIA, Catherine
  5. May I just say, "eeew!"?
  6. That was delightful!
  7. My husband & I always wonder how many "takes" she needs to get one of these hi-speed, information-packed videos done. She's got tons of them. My older daughter first introduced me to them and they're all terrific.
  8. For those who haven't seen her work, here is part 1 of a 3-part series on doodling in spirals and Fibonacci series.
  9. Not many cat pictures get me to laugh out loud (generally I just smile) - but these did!
  10. Invite sent, then I logged out. Judy, will add you next time I'm there (and remember!). I am listed at Catherine G White, owner at Grant Financial.
  11. My sympathies on the loss of your long-time cat -- and my congratulations on the house full of kittens.
  12. Enjoy!! http://fellowshipoftheminds.com/2014/06/22/cats-napping-in-places-that-dont-even-seem-possible/
  13. Knowing you, Jack, you took all the funds out in CASH. (And which was completely justified - your money, your decision.)
  14. Fill the glass with a good single-malt - then drink it!
  15. Many thanks to you both!
  16. I have a folder for each year's authorizations, in paper. After three years they get scanned en masse, then the paper gets shredded. so I still have the (accepted) electronic copies, in perpetuity. On that computer's mirrored drive, the backup mirrored drive, and the online data backup. Plus the disc backup that goes into off-site storage once a year. Belt, suspenders, duct tape, and staples...
  17. Fabulous news!! http://www.redmassgroup.com/diary/18231/free-at-last-free-at-last-thank-god-almighty-justinas-free-at-last Free at last, free at last, thank God almighty, Justina's free at last by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno Tue Jun 17, 2014 at 17:11:18 PM EDT Justina Pelletiers 16 month nightmare is over. A judge, today, ordered DCF to release Justina Pelletier to har parents. The Boston Globe has the story: A Massachusetts juvenile court judge has returned custody of Connecticut teenager Justina Pelletier to her parents, effective Wednesday, according to the judge's ruling obtained by the Globe. "I find that the parties have shown by credible evidence that circumstances have changed since the adjudication on Dec. 20, 2013, that Justina is a child in need of care and protection pursuant to G.L. c. 199, 24-26.," Judge Joseph Johnston wrote in the ruling. "Effective Wednesday, June 18, 2014, this care and protection petition is dismissed and custody of Justina is returned to her parents, Lou and Linda Pelletier." The only thing that has changed is that Lou Pelletier spoke up, the judge finally saw that Tufts had a point, and her treatment by Tufts has been working. While it is great that Justina Pelletier is going home, she can't get these almost two years of her life back. Children's Hospital, DCF, and those who publicly defamed the Pelletiers need to pay for this. I am anxiously anticipating the law suits.
  18. Reporting requirements, tax implications -- of receiving sizable (but size unknown!) gifts from relatives abroad. Where do I even *begin* to look for this info? Not asking folks to research for me, just asking for a pointer. Brain-fried today. Catherine
  19. VERY cute, Jack!
  20. I put it in with the 2012 returns which will get scanned and then shredded in another two years. Perhaps I'll just pop it in with the 2013 8879's. Thanks, all.
  21. So just e-filed a 2012 return for some new clients, and have the 2012 Form 8879, signed & dated in 2014. Do I keep that for three years from NOW, or three years from the 2012 filing season? Suddenly wondered as I went to file it... anyone know off-hand? TIA, Catherine
  22. slightly risque When you’re from the farm, your perception is a little bit different. A farmer drove to a neighbor’s farmhouse and knocked at the door. A boy, about 9, opened the door. “Is your dad or mom home?” said the farmer. “No, they went to town.” “How about your brother, Howard? Is he here?” “No, he went with Mom and Dad.” The farmer stood there for a few minutes, shifting from one foot to the other, mumbling to himself, when the young boy says, “I know where all the tools are, if you want to borrow one, or I can give Dad a message.” “Well,” said the farmer uncomfortably. “No, I really want to talk to your Dad, about your brother Howard getting my daughter Suzy pregnant”. The boy thought for a moment…then says, “You’ll have to talk to my Dad about that. I know he charges $500 for the bulls and $150 for the boars, but I have no idea how much he charges for Howard.”
  23. This is amazing work. Paper sculptures.
  24. Lettuce change course....
  25. My daughter also tells me that this was a "Jack & Jill" competition where the dancers are randomly assigned to each other by names drawn from a hat. On top of that, they also have NO idea of what music will play. So that was completely, entirely, 100% IMPROVISED on the spot. Even MORE impressive...
