  1. I had the worst sinus infection ever about 2 weeks ago, and I am still sitting here clearing my throat every 2 minutes. It doesn't go away fast this year. I was having a bout with migranes and vertigo a few years ago and bought myself a recliner for my office. And there have been many an afternoon i have had to kick my dog out of it so i could get in it. It's hidden around the corner, so most people never see it. It was the best investment i made here. Hope you're feeling better soon! Get some antibiotics going.
  2. Does that qualify for page 1 health insurance deduction? I didn't take it as a deduction last year (last year and this year are first time he's made any profit) However, I do believe that "membership in a medical service co-op" is deductible on Sch A as med expense, so I don't know why it wouldn't fly on page 1 for se health ins deduction. But - I'm not finding anything that defines "eligible" health insurance premiums. any thoughts on this? :pop:
  3. I had a client get theirs done for free and then she wanted to stop in here and have me double check that it was right. For free.
  4. pay big tax. Client owns retail gas/convenience store. Has had it for about 10 years. Finally getting debt paid off. 1120S - 100% ownership. Client bought a vacant building and started renovating it to make it into a retail hardware store - in 2013. Helped with the pro-formas for the bank, and all that. Sets up as 1120S - 100% ownership. Client sells gas store in late 2014. Tells me about it in October, sale takes place in Dec. Client owes 385000 in tax. Because he didn't bother to let anyone know his plans ahead of time. But he just doesn't understand why.
  5. I always complain about Easter being in the middle of tax season, but sometimes it's exactly what we need. A day off, some good food, and family that we love. Now - here we go. 9 more days!!
  6. well - my dog has received 3 dog bones this year.
  7. Tax clients are usually very unthoughtful of the work and expertise put into their return. we are generally overhead to the world. In 20 years, I have received 1 plate of brownies, 1 box of chocolates, and 1 Christmas flower. I haven't received anything this year.
  8. I'm grateful four the four open boxes of girl scout cookies out in the lobby.............................
  9. My little baby in my picture comes to work with me everyday. I think I will take a deduction for him. He's my security. Ok - he doesn't look that tough, but you watch your ankles! So I can take his treats, his grooming, new collars. God I'm getting cynical this year!
  10. I had similar case where non-profit issued 1099 to client for travel to Roswell. Did exactly that -
  11. Cool - our daughter plays travel softball. We travel all over NYS, Ohio, and PA. Do I get to deduct the meals and lodging too? How 'bout all the gear? And gatoraid. That stuff adds up! :wall: :spaz:
  12. I think with half of our clients, we resort to the bank stmts to make some sort of sense of their bookkeeping. I wish someone would blow-up Quickbooks. People get that and they think they are all set. Register balance says -30K, inventory negative, payables of over $100K, sales showing @ 2x the deposits, and no concept of what receivables were at the end of the year. But it's "all in Quickbooks so it should be good." :wall: :poop:
  13. and the really dumb part is is you cannot answer these questions for your client because you have no idea where he lived in 1985, and you cannot just say - i haven't filed yet.
  14. is this legit? My client received a letter dated March 20 2015 regarding his 2014 tax return. We have not filed his tax return yet. The letter refers to a "soft inquiry" which i have never heard of. I have not seen one of these letters before and I am leery to input any info on a website that may or may not be legit. I have never heard of the IRS asking for you to visit a website to input info. I have only ever seen the IRS ask for info back by mail unless you are working with an agent directly. We have the client's return ready for efile, with his signatures, and now I am afraid to efile it. Anyone else seen this?
  15. Dear client - your sales tax reports and your income tax return should at least remotely reconcile. You cannot show NYS sales tax that you only had $100000 in sales when in fact your purchases exceed that 3x. What don't you get that? When you get audited, I will charge you more..........and that is my only hope...........In the meantime, you just keep on telling NYS sales tax whatever you want and do not bother to heed my advise. I will report to NYS income tax what your sales deposits were. And we'll just count the days.
  16. i seem to have some sort of LOSER magnet outside my door.
  17. "but it was a loan......".........yeah - but you didn't pay it back........... "but why should i have to pay tax on my own money....." yep
  18. Dear Client - We give you a complete copy of your return every year. And for the past 15 years i have been here at this location, i have forked over copy after extra copy of returns for clients. But since this is the FIFTH TIME you, dear loser, are asking for another copy, you are going to pay for that time, that paper, and that ink!
  19. 34 here. But thats about 50 degree warmer than it has been most of winter!! Lots of grey snow mountains to get around, but me and the dog got out for a real walk! :D :pop:
  20. I have done just that in past and have not had any problems.
  21. Dear client: Please stop calling me to tell me that your state refund has not been processed yet. I cannot control the state office, and I do not know when they will process it. I have told you on 2 previous phone calls that the return is shown as accepted and that the state does call for up to 8 weeks to process your return. I do not care that your brother-in-law already got his refund, but I will remind you that he came in and PAID me about 3 weeks sooner than you did so therefore his return was processed about 3 weeks sooner than yours.......Are you really that desperate for the money? then please go to the rapid refund people next year!
  22. that never occurred to me. I wish i had known that yesterday. Thank you so much. I will keep that in mind.
