Well I contacted someone and they informed me I needed to show what TRX was saying would be delivered. Your Newletters and a copy of their website IMO should prove that. Heck, they are still promising things they aren't delivering. He said I needed to show I tried to contact TRX for a refund. That's really difficult to prove IMO. It's nice though that on Facebook, people comment that they were on hold for HOURS at a stretch at all hours of the day and nobody ever returned their emails. It has their name, photo and time stamp so anyone can verify the comments. I need to prove the software doesn't work. I can provide them a copy of my software because as of Wednesday night at midnight - I stopped updating. I can show there is no state software available. I stopped testing the software a long time ago but I documented known problems. I'm doing a few other things but right now I'm hoping that's enough. We'll see. No state software at this date - unspeakable IMO. In my state, because we have an income tax, it's not functioning software if you can't complete an ENTIRE tax return. Regardless of all the other problems. edit: I have a copy of my bank statement showing when I paid and a copy of their refund policy showing it's completely worthless. Oh and did you know: per their cancellation policy if you are a RENEWAL customer they prohibit any and all refunds. When Terry said she was mailing things back I got a little excited until I read closer.

Thanks - I printed off what you had on the other page and that should be helpful. I received none of those. Their Facebook page and the 10 pages (printed them off) of complaints will be good proof it's not just me having a problem. Facebooks lists real names (or mostly real) and not screen names like on here.

What name is it on those emails? I've searched and I don't have any emails from TRX. Doesn't matter if it promises TaxWorks or not. I'm trying to document what they promised and any communication they provided. Since my only email from them is the one this week about IRS problems - communication that is documented (so far) is minimal. I remember getting several calls to renew, no emails.
  4. I could be wrong but I think each update is slightly larger than the last since it includes everything before it. If you skip a few updates, you just download the last one and it brings you up to date. My current software would download ALL the updates since your last one and install them separately. Each is about 10-20 MB though.

yeah, I've seen a lot of stuff online. Nothing actually verifiable. I have no doubt they are getting refunds, just can't verify it. Just like the person named Doug that posts on this board. We have no clue who he ACTUALLY is and we certainly can't verify he was the President of TRX. Has anyone actually spoken to someone at TRX and talked with them personally about acquiring a refund? I've yet to be able to talk to anyone and request a refund. As soon as I mentioned refund, they put me on hold and they never came back. I've sent many emails, they never respond. I was told I needed to document all my emails, that doesn't seem to be much in the way of proof when they ignore them.

Does anyone have any brochures or advertisements that TRX was distributing this past spring for renewals? Maybe you could .pdf them and email them to me? Postcards? anything? Does anyone know of any written proof that ATX and Taxworks were actually giving refunds? I know it's been claimed by their customers on message boards, don't know if there is actual proof.
  7. The after-the-fact payroll didn't work until after the 21st of January. I had to use other software for that even. Couldn't wait any longer. I'm pretty sure Congress didn't impact what the W-2's and 1099's LOOK like.
  8. Congrats. $350 is a bargain price. Bet they've sold a bunch this week.
  9. [email protected] that IS the email address he gave in a thread early last year. Are you calling the credit card company to make this request? Is that how they do it? How long before you know if a credit will be officially (not temporarily) applied?
  10. Working through returns on my new software I was questioning a number (I had entered last years state refund incorrectly in the worksheet) and I had a flashback. Imagine how often you'd be questioning numbers with Tax Exact. Honestly, I wouldn't trust they printed my phone number correctly.
  11. You might want to consider asking if the President of Main Street, Tom Hughes, is any relation to Doug Hughes. Probably not, Tom appears to have worked at CCH but that would be weird. Especially if next December a TaxExact packet arrives in the mail!
  12. It'll be interesting to see if they catch you. Can you see why they wouldn't allow customers paying $1,300 to move to a reseller and pay $800?
  13. Are you an ATX customer or a TRX customer that used the ATX resold product? In the mind of CCH, there is a major difference. I would think going from TRX to Mainstreet would be perfectly fine. I'm not sure that's ALWAYS the case but I've heard they will kick former clients out of resellers. I was an ATX buyer directly from ATX and then was a TaxWise customer through TRX. I think the difference was that ATX and TaxWise weren't owned by the same company when I was an ATX client? Not sure. It was implied I couldn't go back to being an ATX customer the year TRX offered them.
  14. The 72 hour policy isn't required by law, it's a favor offered to you. The reality is that Consumer Protection Laws are in place exactly for what TRX has done. They sold a product with promises, when they delivered it was defective to such an extent it was not considered a viable delivery of a product. They have 3 choices. Replace it with a working product which would have been a viable option 2 days ago. They can offer full refunds. Or they can hope a judge ignores their own Consumer Protection laws in court. It is prohibited by the law that TRX can waive your option to receive a refund later when they fail to deliver.
  15. How long do you think they'll survive without it? Here is the reality on a refund - it's not legally required. The 72 hour rule is a viable policy. EXCEPT that rule is voided when the product turns out to be defective. When a company sells a product that they know is defective, they are required by MY state law (and I'm sure everyone's) to provide a refund or it becomes a criminal issue of operating a scam. Tax Exact as of today is officially defective and I have not received any notification of when I should expect them to rectify the problem. Doug's argument that he delivered tax software probably sounded good when he was thinking Tax Exact would work. If you don't want to file a small claims case, contact your state consumer protection division of their local district attorney and they will contact TRX for your refund.
  16. Terry, you might want to consider filing a small claims court case. It sounds to me like that's the only alternative. Doug has basically made it very clear, TRX isn't a company anyone should trust going forward. IMO, stop downloading updates, print off the sheet showing on January 30th this is what you were provided (an unworkable product) and most judges will consider it a break in TRX's promise to provide working tax software. The only argument Doug could make would be that he never promised a quality product. edit: if you paid by credit card, call the credit card company and challenge the charge itself. I know people have gotten their money back that way. I paid by check....... You know, don't know how long ago those people put the software on their credit card though.
  17. You know Crank - they had the states available for 1-update 2 weeks ago. IMO that would give me hope. I'm not doing the testing you are doing though. On the other hand they appear to have completely ignored the entire corporate tax side to the software thus far. Mind boggling.
  18. All me efiles were rejected today. My tax software allows in the firm / preparer set up a 2-line street address. The IRS only allows a 1-line street address. 2 minute fix to move my suite number to the end of my street, resubmitted and all accepted. That was basically the last thing I was really worried about with my software. There is one thing I do NOT like about OLTPRO. You can't generate an invoice until AFTER you've marked the return completed and are ready to efile. Not much of a problem but it's not the process I've ever used. Every other software had it as a form within the return. The reason they do it is the return is locked once it's efiled - you can't go in and change the return - you would start a duplicate if you want to do scenarios. Since the return is locked, if you want to show on the invoice that it was paid later (or make after the fact notes) - you can do so without opening the return itself which is extra quick. There's good and bad to everything. I'm sure I'll get used to it but it's the only thing I don't like so far.
  19. New is always better than the old version. Sin The former board of Directors, Coca Cola.
  20. I purchased other software 2 weeks ago. It's unimaginable to me that anyone would trust this company ever again. I've paid for TaxExact 2x now. 2007ish and 2012. Both years I had to buy other software because TaxExact wasn't working.
  21. I don't care what's happening in the background at TRX. I care about what's happening in my office. My responsibility is to my clients and my employees. Was Doug unaware when tax season would begin? My state is accepting tax returns and corporate tax returns. TRX is not prepared so that would be impossible with their software. As of right now, TRX has pro-actively provided me with ZERO communication about their software, TaxExact or their company. ZERO. Not one phone call explaining the problems or why I received this software, not an email, not a letter letting me know what is happening. Someone who claims to be Doug on an internet site not affiliated with his company (completely unverified) has made proclamations but those stopped a long time ago. Doug hasn't informed me they are working 24x7 to solve their problems - you've said that.
  22. I'd like to mention a few things about this post. 1. It is NOT possible for me to complete a return because a) my state software is not available for either the 1040 side or the corporate side and corporate returns for feds aren't really possible. Try generating K-1s for a 1065. That is not about a desired level of proficiency. That's not working software. 2. Doug isn't jumping through hoops to deliver refunds. There are NO refunds. He refuses because he said over a month ago this met his legal requirement to deliver tax software. How's that for treating your customers like dirt? Are you under the impression that if we sit quietly and shower Doug with respect that he'll change his mind? 3. Most of the work being done now is stuff that should have been done last June. Doug said they did over 50,000 test returns and it did great. Do you believe this software did 50,000 test returns and it did great since it took until last week before I could print ANYTHING? Numbers aren't moving from one form to the next properly. I think in late December, Doug knew this software was junk, lied to cover his rear and shifted the blame to everyone else. 4. I promised clients I would deliver my services in a timely manner. Maybe you've done the same thing. If I counted on Tax Exact, I would have been fired already. 5. Do you have employees Terry that depend on their paychecks being delivered in a timely manner? This is my job. This is how I earn a living. Tax season doesn't start in 2 weeks. It started January 1st. Maybe my mortgage company will understand that being 4 weeks late isn't a big deal if I tell them Doug is working really hard. Meh, it's just money.
  23. The corporate side is why I jumped ship from TRX so early. I realize people are hoping the 1040 side will EVENTUALLY be working but that's only a portion of what we purchased. I have an 1120S client that leaves on vacation Thursday and wants his 1120S delivered tomorrow at the latest so we can have Wednesday to fix anything and he can deliver the K-1s. I had to begin working on it January 20th. I charge a premium fee from him because I allot him special attention. With TRX that's impossible. The idea you can deliver software in February and consider it "good enough" is insulting. The idea that nobody should complain because they are trying (let's all hold hands and sing Kumbaya) - equally as insulting. This is business. This is my livelihood. I paid for software that simply wasn't delivered. This isn't because Congress was late, it's because the software DOESN'T WORK. They knew it didn't work in December and claimed it was good enough to meet their requirements of delivering something they called tax software.
