  1. Some software companies don't acknowledge state returns being accepted at all.
  2. Have you ever had a state efile get rejected after the Fed was accepted? I haven't in three years. Have a stack of Feds accepted, state transmitted but no report of acceptance yet on the states.
  3. I've never had a problem with 1040ES's either. Other than the MFS issue which has never worked as far as I know, I've never had any of the issues they've mentioned on here.

    Form 1041 Trust

Assuming you mean distribute all income via the K1? They changed this feature in the software. Last year you would attribute income as Beneficiary or Fiduciary income on every input screen pretty much. The Beneficiary's K1 needs to add up to 100%. The time I had to call them, I had Capital Gains not rolling over and there is a feature to attribute that on the Schedule D page - very last lines of the page. Otherwise, it's been my experience that the type of trust will determine this. Under Income, Deductions and Credit you can override entries - not a fan of that.
  5. As was mentioned repeately and obviously ignored last year; One Desk is a reseller for OLTPRO. Renewing OLTPRO was $430 for the desktop unlimited version. That includes all addtional fees. "Dan" used a message board to blast out advertisements for his software which is odd enough. Then he gave away a free year of usage. If you had used OLTPro you could call up the actual company who generated the software or you can call "Dan". You chose "Dan". I've emailed OLTPRO with questions a few times over 2 years, that's it. I also use Drake software and Drake is 10x more difficult for me. I've contacted Drake 3x as much I'd guess - can't figure out how to get it to work sometimes. I've considered moving everything to Drake because it would be the same price for me but I've stayed with OLTPRO.
  6. Drake is fine if it works for your mind and you can figure out how their mind works. Examples: 1. I close the return I'm working on probably 30x per day going from viewing the return back to data entry. 2. They change without any warning. I've been doing 1041's with the software for several years. This year attributing income from the fiduciary to the beneficiary changed completely and no warning or hint. Their new way is completely unintuitive. 3. their forms entry isn't really forms entry (like any other software) and I have real problems finding entry points with their software in either entry form. Having said that, my co-worker absolutely loves it. It gives you ALL the worksheets and I do love that but it takes me 2x as long as my other software to enter a rental property.
  7. Received it via Fed Ex on Monday. It's nice to get a working copy so early in the season.
  8. On customer invoice entry, it would be helpful to know what I charged last year. When a charge wasn't paid last year the system notifies me so the information is obviously in there. Rollover of data needs to be boosted. On W-2 and 1099s could we get state tax ID #s to roll forward, distribution codes on 1099s, data on a seller financed mortgage interest disappeared. On our state the school district and county where they live didn't roll forward. W-2 Box12 rollover of codes? Box 12 codes used the previous year on W-2 automatically added? A refund applied to next years tax payments wasn't rolled over on the return. Listing charitable contributions should be a spreadsheet entry system. Going in and entering each separately is cumbersome and slow. Something similar to either an investment entry type sheet (schedule D) or a Schedule C Other Expense sheet. When entering tax free interest and dividends. Is it possible at that point to notify the software what amount is state taxable versus state tax free right on the 1099 entry? Instead of having to go to the state return and entering a lump sum figure. Can preparer authorization to speak for clients to the IRS and /or state be universal to all clients? Setup/preparer checkbox? If I have a state refund and not a federal refund, bank information won't roll forward for direct deposit. I have to manually enter the bank data again. The ability to print off some worksheets would be amazingly appreciated. I realize that's a lot for the cost of the software. Even if the Federal analyser notified me explicitely WHY credits are limited or whatever else, it would be helpful. In the client manager section of corporate and individual returns, is it possible to have an adjustable field so I can have a personalized STATUS line? Not a major deal but a nice feature sometimes to quickly see what status the return is in with multiple people working on it. If I want to roll over a refund to next year, can that be a check box instead of entering an exact figure? Drake has an option where if there is a state or federal refund, you can tell the software to ALWAYS apply it to next year for that specific client and that option rolls forward each year so I don't have to remember. That's nice and seems easy to implement. On the Year over Year comparison – it's great but can it be added to the list of forms to print out using the checkbox feature at print out instead of going into the return and printing separately? The list of ideas I sent them. Wish I had included that Depreciation of asset is very cumbersome at times. There are times I just can't get it to work properly and I can't figure out why.
  9. I like the idea of a catch all. One Desk is a reseller of OLTPRO. If you are going to name it that sort of thing, why not OLTPRO?
  10. OLTPRO already has it on the website but it's not accept my credit card. They emailed me a renewal notice and I mailed it off. $399 plus shipping for renewals. The yearly survey will likely be out late next week. Do OneDesk people do a survey? Why do you buy from a reseller when you can deal directly with the maker?
  11. To save as a .pdf, just Export to Document Manager instead of printing selected forms. Then in Document Manager, when viewing, save and it'll save as a pdf. Personally I always encypt when saving to send out like that so I print to my Primopdf and that'll let me encrypt the file with a password. I've had some really goofy depreciations lately that just wouldn't spit out a depreciation figure. Be sure to make a list of things you want changed. I've got about 8 items right now. For examply cash charitable contributions needs to be a spreadsheet entry like they have line-item entry or even a stock trade entry. Entering each one separately is annoying and time consuming. Tax free income that is taxable or not at the state level would IMO be better served being entered directly into the DIVIDEND or INTEREST screens. Now I have to go to the state return and make a manual adjustment and obsess I'll forget. SO MUCH CRAP doesn't roll forward from last year. the details of a private mortgage doesn't roll forward. How? Easily forgotten and if not rolled forward we can easily miss.
  12. One of the really annoying things about OLTPRO is that if you apply a refund to next years return, the software just flat out ignores it when you roll forward. That's just ultra basic and I told them it was a problem last year and it's still a problem. I've made .pdf files of every return from last year and open them so I can easily view and compare to last year so I'm not missing junk like this but seriously, pathetic. Makes me wonder what else isn't rolling forward.
  13. Give her an hourly rate and give her an estimate of the hours. You can make this look however you want. As an example: $50 per hour and I think this will take 15 hours. $150 per hour and I think this will take 5 hours. I don't charge by the form because honestly, a form for 1 client can take 45 minutes and it's 5 minutes for the next client. That's not fair.
  14. Both TRX and Tax Exact websites work for me. Can't imagine they have many customers left unless they are doing business under a different name. I can't imagine buying software and not doing a Google search and finding all the complaints. My guess is the software finally works but nobody is using it so it doesn't really matter. Doug should post here and let us know how things are going
  15. My state doesn't recognize same sex marriage but if filing a joint federal return, they'll accept a joint state return. All the state asks is how the federal return is filed. If you say Joint, it is joint for the state. Do you imagine any state actually verifies if a couple is married or if they are separate sex?
  16. Oh, make a list throughout the season of things you'd like adjusted / changed about the software and let them know after the season. OLTPRO incorporated 1 of my suggestions and I'll repeat the others again. I'm using Drake software for a specific client. Wow, I'm not a fan. I know people tend to love it and I've only done 5 returns with it so far but yuck.
  17. Desktop allows business returns. The 8825 is what I'm having a problem with. It wasn't a problem last year so it should be an easy fix but I've been waiting a week on it. If you have 1-property, it's also not a problem. It's when you add that second property, for some reason the software identifies it as two separate 8825's even though only one form is generated. Odd. Engineering is supposedly working on it. The client is being patient but they've held up the rest of the 1065's I handle for them until this one is complete. Why did you go with a reseller instead of just buying from OLTPRO? OLTPRO renews at the same price OneDesk resells at. Don't update to Adobe Reader 11. My computer had a problem with it via OLTPRO.
  18. I use OLTPRO - desktop. Have had 2 problems this year with the software and while one was an easy fix around and didn't appear on any other returns by one, the other has lingered unfixed since last Friday. Their support last year was exceptionally quick, this year not so much. Don't know if they are having a problem. Guy today said a fix would be coming as soon as the engineers can get to it. It's not a major problem, really just a finishing up problem because I have the return done essentially. I really like the software and it really rolled everything forward nicely from last season.
  19. Website says: We now have Tax Software for PC or Mac I'd say they have two different programs? Can't imagine who would be so uninformed as to buy that junk. Last year the last time I checked was late March and they still didn't have a working version of my state software. Which was one of the problems I noticed back around 2005 that I had with the original TaxExact. They never did have a working copy of my state software even though they promised to have one.
  20. Virtually identical? TRX software IS Taxexact software. Way to keep up.
  21. On July 29, 2013, the company filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the federal Bankruptcy Act, case number 3:13-bk-06558 . This permits the company to continue to operate with court supervision while developing a plan of reorganization. Those with monetary claims against the company are advised to obtain a Proof of Claim form by writing to Tennessee Middle Bankruptcy Court CM/ECF, 701 Broadway Room 170, Nashville, TN, 37203 for resubmission to that court. The case number should be entered on the form. Claims must be submitted by 2013-09-29. edit: during the process of this all unfolding last January it became evident that TRX was actually just 1 company within 6+ that Doug was involved with. They have TRX Alliance, Adroit, Refund Express, 1040Works, TaxExact and Yonderworks.

    TRX Gone!

Got that email from them also. I still wonder how they can stay in business.

    TRX Gone!

Yes. Resellers contract with the software company, put their own branding on the software and sell it as their own. OneDesk is a reseller of OLTPRO. TRX is a reseller. Guardian Tax Software used to resell Drake if I recall correctly. Here is another one: http://www.protaxpro.com/Products-RP.html

    TRX Gone!

Tax Exact has a page on their website looking for resellers: http://www.taxexact.com/TaxReseller.html I'm very confident that it was their plan all along to have the product repackaged and resold by others to supplement sales. Very common within the industry. From an internet search, appears Doug and Cathy's home was valued at between $1.2 and $1.3 million. It's very profitable being a crook.
  25. The TRX issue probably added an additional 75 hours to my work year entering assets and comparing old returns to new but it wasn't a massive problem. Considering I really prefer OLTPRO over Taxworks, I'm fine with it. Doug imploding may have been good in the longer term. I have a few clients that have really kicked up the referrals so this year was great. I used to do 1040NR returns for foreign doctors on fellowships at a local university hospital. Wow, pain in the rear. You need to raise your rates IMO. Those returns are as complicated as any you can do and here, HRBlock won't even touch them.
