  1. Going from memory but when it takes you to the webpage to DOWNLOAD the update you hit update and there were 2 options that popped up (pop--up isn't relevant because it's a software issue, not browser I'm pretty sure). You could download the update or download the notepad file. When they do .06, watch for it. Really, it didn't give much info but it did give a few pieces of information.
  2. When I did the update yesterday to version 4.0.0.05, this was available but it only showed a few changes being made.
  3. That's a new requirement? We've had to separate long term and short term for years. My point was that I find it odd I have to tell the software if it's long or short term. If I enter a short term holding in the long term box - it didn't catch it as an error. Why wouldn't I enter them all on 1 spreadsheet and the software sorts them to the correct spot on the return?
  4. Only tried it on my 1065 and a 1040. Print preview worked on the 1040 - complete failure on the 1065. i tried doing the review of the return and it found no errors on my 1065. I'm here to tell you, there were tons of errors. I hadn't even entered a full SSN on a K-1.
  5. I gotta say Doug, I purchased Tax Exact many years ago and it's why I switched to TRX. It was a completely useless product that I couldn't finish a single return with. They literally never provided a working copy that I could finish a completed return with and ignored my emails after February 1st. As of right now, I'm not seeing that this is all that much better. It's better but wow this is difficult to work with. I do 2 types of returns basically. Rental returns and returns for my investment clients. Why on earth would the Schedule D require me to separate long term trades and enter them in one area and short term in another? Would wouldn't I enter that in one spot and the software figure it out? It's stuff like that, just boggles my mind that nobody considers this stuff. The line identification in on the left. Entry on the right 7" apart. Thousands of little dotted lines separating them on my page. The software is obviously SUPPOSED to be able to move the side of the form to adjust the width - my software doesn't actually allow it. I have to open the peek form portion which can only be moved with the scroll bars even though the hand comes up saying I should be able to move it around with my mouse.
  6. Few things on my sample 1065: 1. I had to tell the program to produce a Schedule B-1. That should have been automatically produced and completed when I entered that information on another form. I entered into directly into the K-1 forms because I couldn't figure out any place else to imput the member data. 2. Form 4562 is supposed to be linked to form 8825. It's not an option. I'm sure that's being fixed but that's weird. 3. Whenever I try to use Form Peek - about 1/2 the time nothing shows up at all. The rest of the time it shows an empty tax form. 4. The depreciation worksheet is mystery to me. Every other software, when you add items to the asset listing - you are done. The worksheet is pretty much done. Here it appears nothing is transferring. I worked at it for 45 minutes and can't get any type of depreciation number to produce.
  7. It's what the ex-husband paid per share originally.
  8. Looking at a 1065 with rental properties - how do you add the assets to track depreciation? The building of a rental property return for an LLC - wow this is not intuitive if this is what we are looking at going forward.
  9. I haven't read through all of these (too much drama) but after doing the individual Pro-Forma, it appears the returns aren't converted. But if you go to Return Maintenance and hit Reindex - they populate. I'm missing a handful of returns that didn't slide over, hoping with the updates after the new year that will happen. Weird how one didn't transfer and it's a very simiple return. I'll review if things were missing on the conversion throughout the week. edit: appears none of their tax data came through.
  10. A refund or a date in small claims court. It's up to him. I find it odd that his own demo isn't a proper demonstration of their own software. ) And you are right. The internet message boards and legal complaints will show up every time a potential customer does a google search of his company and software for many years. It's basically a death sentence to any type of customer satifsfaction or quality control he's tried to produce.
  11. Technically TRX hasn't renigged on my early purchase so I'm not complaining to anyone until they do. For all I know, they will deliver the product for which I renewed. I paid them to buy what they sold and delivered as TRXPro the last several years. If they have renamed a completely different product this and try to pass it off as meeting their agreement, it will not fly with the small claims court. When I renewed, they never quantified that they had the right to deliver a different product. They advertised that I was renewing my purchase of TRXPro. When they switched from offering Intellitax to TaxWise and then TaxWorks - I was fine with that because they were still delivering a quality product. TaxExact is not a quality product from my previous experience as a TaxExact customer. In fact previously, they committed fraud by selling a product they could never deliver. Why should I expect anything different now?
  12. I'm one of the few people who purchased the TaxExact software when it was independent (the year before I transititioned to TRX). It was horrific, incomplete and they never did provide me with the state software they had promised. I literally couldn't do a single tax return with the TaxExact software and they refused to provide me with a refund. If that's what shows up in the mail and TRX thinks that satisfies their obligation for what I paid for last May, we will be meeting in small claims court.
  13. I understand why ATX could be cut off but is the TRX-TW product still going to continue to be offered after this year?
  14. I never received that but I'm a TRX-TW subscriber. I did receive an email about online training. It was supposed to be scheduled for today but it now appears to have been canceled because it's not listed on the website. Man I hate when companies do stuff like that.
  15. Yes, I think they purchased them in 2007. If you do a search online for both names it comes up. I didn't realize the connection. But then again a lot of people don't have a big problem using Intuit owned tax software.
  16. Not just CCH but any company needs to look at what business they are in and determine how to leverage that business. For Intellitax they determined they were in the software development business so they effectively sold their software for a reduced rate so that resellers could provide the customer service. Look at what happened to ATX after they were purchased by CCH and you tell me what happened to the customer service! Most of us are on this website because they so obviously failed at providing superior customer service. With the purchase of Intellitax and Taxwise, it seems reasonable to me that CCH is testing whether they can make this business model work. My guess is in a few years one of two things will occur. 1) they will try and keep customer service in-house because they think they are effectively paying to much for it and they will again provide horrible customer service at expensive rates. (I see this ALL THE TIME with billing companies and past due accounts / collections) 2) they will determine they really are just a software development company and they will continue with the TRX model in some way. Just my guess. And the 500 copies of ATX is reasonable. It would be silly for ATX to completely transition their franchise software to outsourced customer service companies. TRX is making an investment that if they do a good job, ATX will sell them a much larger number next year. Hopefully it works out.
  17. I received an email yesterday from TRX and they are working and planning to offer Drake software ALSO next year. So, they will be offering TaxWise, ATX and Drake in the $299 and $699 price ranges. I was informed that with the conversion from Intellitax to Taxwise that they were caught completely off guard and the software transition was very difficult for them. I've used ATX and was not a fan of the product or their customer service so I switched to TRX this past year and actually preferred the TaxWise product. Honestly, when ATX cut their customer service I was pretty much done with them at that point and will never return to working with them directly. It bothers me that that Taxwise is owned by the same company but at least I don't have to deal with them directly. CPA Tech Adviser website rates all three software programs pretty much the same.

    FYI

I was just informed by TRX that next year they will be offering TaxWise, ATX and possibly Drake software.
  19. I found an error. I did a 1041 for a client and produced a K-1. When I started their 1040 return the software asked if I wanted to rollover the K-1 data. The problem is that it screwed up the data transfer. It brought over Long term capital gains and completely ignored short term losses. It missed 3 other lines of data that were important. Beginning to think you really need to check and double check this software.
  20. Ok, this is a really dumb question but you smarter folks have figured it out I'm sure. When I get my acknowledgements for emails I get a state and federal "email". How do I open them both up at once or return to the previous screen if I can only open one at a time? Everything I've tried has failed and I have to go get my acknowledgments again to view the second "email". What am I doing wrong? I've clicked the buttons to view both but that doesn't work.
  21. I used ATX last year and if you did - be careful. Three times already I've had returns roll through that paid capital gains taxes last year but the software is somehow seeing a long-term capital loss carryover. When I see the new Schedule D there is a mysterious dollar figure entered in that carry forward line. Be careful.
  22. You can't just highlight the form and hit Shift F9 to delete? If that doesn't work, I'd call technical support.
  23. I use Primo pdf http://www.primopdf.com/ It has always worked well for me but I've never tried it with Taxwise.
  24. I was feeling so proud of myself for knowing that .pdf solution and then you give me a real excuse...... I'm NOT going to tell you how long it took me to figure out how to delete a return. I refuse because it will destroy all credibility I have. Do I have any? Ok, it was at least 90 minutes. It just seemed like it should have been so easy. Did you try printing with one of those free .pdf generation programs? Cnet download has a few. They work well for me.
  25. Why are you not able to print to .pdf? It's an option on the print screen. That was the EASIEST thing I could do I do like the red line but I wish it could be over ruled to say you have corrected the information. On Schedule C revenue I have a red line that I can't get rid of because I'm not giving it a 1099. That's not a requirement. For the extra lines on the Schedule A - they should BOLD where the information is normally entered. Most people entering mortgage interest are putting it on the exact same line except for the rare occasion. Just BOLD where I should be normally entering data.
