  1. Hey there, I’m trying to open ATX 2017, however, I’m unable to get it open. I keep getting a Database Server Error that reads “Unable to self-repair the database. Prior status was attempting self-repair”. The UDP Server started, as did the Web Server. The SlidingWindow Server however, is stuck on starting. Also get BackupRestore Server, which is just stopped, and also saying the error message “Database not available”. Any ideas on how to fix this?
  2. Upon starting ATX 2017, I get a database server error that prevents the program from opening. All my services for 2016, 2017, and 2018 are running. 2018 and payroll work fine. This happened out of the blue. Tried rebooting, etc. Any ideas before I go to support?
  3. Article on multiple news sites today: "The Marriott International hotel chain said on Friday that the database of its Starwood reservation system had been hacked and that the personal details of up to 500 million guests going as far back as 2014 had been compromised. The hotel group, which runs more than 6,700 properties around the world, was informed in September about an attempt to access the database, and an investigation this month revealed that unauthorized access had been made on or before Sept. 10, Marriott said in a statement. The hotel chain said that personal details including names, addresses, dates of birth, passport numbers, email addresses and phone numbers for hundreds of millions of guests may have been compromised. The investigation found that “there had been unauthorized access to the Starwood network since 2014,” and an “unauthorized party had copied and encrypted information, and took steps toward removing it,” the statement said. Hackers also obtained encrypted credit-card information for some customers, but it was unclear if the hackers would be able to use those payment details. Marriott said it wasn’t sure how many passport numbers and dates of birth were stolen but said that it was a “subset” of the larger number of affected consumers. The hack affects customers who made reservations for Starwood hotel brands from 2014 to September of this year. The properties include Sheraton, Westin, W Hotels, St. Regis, Four Points, Aloft, Meridien, Tribute, Design Hotels, Elements and the Luxury Collection." The hackers seem to be winning. Saw an article a day or two ago that said during 2017 one out of every 6 personal bank accounts had at least one fraudulent incident during the year.
  4. Greetings group - Forgive the naive question here, but.... Bought a new PC this offseason and about to install ATX2018. I'm a solo office and install the program as "standalone" not on a server. I read this article and watched the video... https://support.cch.com/kb/solution.aspx/000048812 Is the process the same for standalone installs? The article/video mentions stopping the ATX service/server on both the old and new PC. But I don't have ATX installed yet on the new PC. I'm really just wanting to be able to rollover returning client data. A bit confused and appreciate any insight. Thanks! AF
  5. I called IRS PPL this morning to work on a client representation issue. I filed the POA with the CAF unit in 2012. I have been working with this client for years, and had multiple contacts with the IRS on their account. In 2015, we got an installment agreement. This week, the IRS sent a notice that they need a new 433-F, and they need it in 10 days (of course they do!). So I call PPL to ask for an extension because my client is recovering from major surgery. They don't have my POA on file. Literally, I have had at least 15 contacts with the IRS on this client and they all could see my POA when I called. Until today. So I send an e-fax with the POA's, and of course, e-fax comes back with an unsuccessful transmission due to line busy after 15 minutes on the line. IRS said call back when your fax machine works. Sucks to be me today. This is the third client that I have had to re-send my POA over for, and all of them are clients that I sent in the forms to the CAF unit. I don't understand why my POA's are disappearing from the database. This happening to anyone else? Tom Modesto, CA
  6. I have ATX 2012 - 2016. They all have always been working fine in the past. I have windows 10 and recently just added a separate admin profile and a user profile on the computer. After doing so I came across the database server error. When I try to open ATX 2016 or 2015, the server progress box comes up saying database server error. "Could not open transactional storage: C:/ProgramData/CCH Small Firm Services\ATX 2016 Server\DataStore\Data" This keeps coming up and I've tried everything and it doesn't seem to work. Like I mentioned before, everything was working before I decided to add a admin and a user profile on the computer. I just don't see how that would effect it. I tried opening them as admin and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?
  7. After changing my router from verizon fios, i now try to load ATX 2015 and get error message could not open transactional storage with the status of some processes. Has anyone else had this issue.
  8. I closed a return and suddenly couldn't open anything. I rebooted my computer and still wouldn't open a return. Atx has been on my computer for 92 minutes and can't get a new database on. There have been hundreds of temp files building up in the database. He's blaming my computer. He says it is running slow for some reason. Stand alone, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, 12 Gb RAM. I could just cry. I probably will. He says I may have to reformat my computer and restore everything. Maybe I should just go buy another and just put atx on it. Oh but the database is messed up how can that work?
  9. I have been backing up returns to a flash drive for several years. Keep them offsite in case the worse happens. I use 8 gig flash drives for this purpose. I usually never use more than 1 gig of space on them. Went to backup the 5 returns I have rolled over an worked on in ATX this year and I get a message that there is not enough room on the device and the backup needs 7.6 gigs of space. That is a lot bigger than the other years. Is there a way to compress the database or some way to select the backup that I am not seeing? Thanks Tom Hollister, CA
  10. Hello, I was wondering if anybody knows (or can direct me to someone who might) where the database is located in ATX2012? In previous versions we could Repair & Replace the database(http://cchsfs-atx.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2112/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xMzU3NDIzNDgyL3NpZC93cER2QXpmbA%3D%3D) How does it work in 2012? Is it possible to instruct the program which database to use? Thank you
  11. Where oh where did it go? I had lost the whole program last night. Now I cannot find my database. Was too dumb to do a full back up a couple days ago when i should have.
  12. I thought that this one was important enough that it should be posted here as well. My concern is that this is not an isolated incident and those of you doing over 500 returns may have the same problem, so exporting your returns might be critical. so here is the ATX Reg Board thread on this (quoted the posts but left off the names & none of these posts were from me):
  13. I am having to replace our server, which means new up to date server software. I am finding that the scheduling program that we have used for years will not work with the new 64 bit technology. Same applies to the database program that we keep all our customer history and information in. What do you use in your office? We have 2,900+ clients for 2010 and our current database has about 13,000+ entries in it. Any suggestions about software would be helpful. Must be 64 bit compatible.
  14. I will need to either put 2010 on my new pc, and then rollover. Or I will have to rollover, and then transfer. I'm confused. Is there an easy way to move stuff, or is my christmas holiday going to be spent at the office moving tax returns...........................................
  15. I've spent the weekend moving programs/files to a new hard drive so that my chugging computer can keep on chugging a while longer. My goal is to have my computer set up like this: H:-windows operating system only I: Programs C: Data ATX by default sticks it's database in the program files so it is now located on my "I" drive. I'd very much like it to be on "C". Does anyone know how to configure ATX so that it will use (load) a database in another location? I'm doing this for ease of backup -I'll be backing up C: only. If the database gets dumped onto "I" I'm afraid it won't get backed up properly. I think I can configure ATX to backup to c: but that won't help as my backup program doesn't automatically back-up bck files. Thanks for any pointers Carolyn
  16. I just efiled my first and only 1120 return. I received the following error notice. R0000-905 Database Validation Error Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN) in teh Return Header must be listed in teh e-fiile database and in accepted status. What does this mean and what do I need to do. I have had no trouble e-filing individual returns. The 1120 I efiled has a fiscal year end of 9/30/08. :scratch_head:
  17. Has anyone tried to network ATX across multiple sites via the internet? I will be having at least one person working from a home office this year and want to give them access to the same data files. Thought of using a Terminal Server if there is no other way, but your thoughts would be appeciated.
  18. I had a brainstorm! We should all petition the ATX Communities database from ATX in order to continue this valuable service with all of it's history. I'm certain that they will initially resist this request, however a class action from all of us threatening not to renew for 2007 may have some direct impact on their final decision. What does the community think of this pursuit?
