ILLMAS
I am having a hard time entering information for TP that is in sales and his work does not provide office space, so he uses his personal home which is a rental property. It's been close to an hour and I cannot figure this thing out, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks MAS
joanmcq
You need to add a 2106. I was in the same position last week....
Jack from Ohio
Put $1 in the appraised value.
ILLMAS
Jack if you go through form 2106, you cannot put an appraised value.
mcb39
I think you already have the 2106. See my notes under the other thread regarding the OIH for the 2106.
ILLMAS
I am following the other thread, I entered the information on the expense allocation worksheet, I see my total expenses $25000 X 5% = 1250 is correct, but on the worksheet it appears on line 42 as a carryover for unallowed expenses for 2014, but I would like to see the worksheet as to why not. ILLMAS
Okay, if I am using form 2106 other expenses business expenses -> home office use - > on the expense allocation worksheet line 8, Income, there is no income besides the TP wages, that is why I am using this form. Since the program is not allocating any income, I cannot deduct the expenses does this make sense?

mcb39
On the third section of the Home Office Allocation Worksheet, did you select the 2106 in the drop-down box for business activity.
ILLMAS
On the third section of the Home Office Allocation Worksheet, did you select the 2106 in the drop-down box for business activity. Bingo, here is the problem, it doesn't select any, which ever one I pick, it stays blank. I did notice that awhile ago, I closed out of the program, reopened it, then the client. I am going to recreate the file in proseries now.
ILLMAS
Definitely there is a glitch, had no problem with Proseries, calling ATX to resolve issue.
mcb39
But mine DID select the 2106 in the dropdown box. I have had that return open throughout this thread. The selection is still there even after the return has been filed.
ILLMAS
Are the wages associated to form flowing to expense allocation worksheet? I called ATX, sent them a copy of the file and they were having the same issue, I am just going to recreate a new file from scratch tomorrow. joanmcq
You have to enter the wages & allocate the amount from the home office. The return I've done already had both a Sch c home office & an employee home office. So it works, but it does taking some getting used to.
WITAXLADY
THAT is an understatement! by continually clicking and going back and forth to the tabs - I am figuring it out but it is vveerrrrrryy time consuming - 1 page to 8 pages = overkill! taxxcpa
My software has a choice in the Form 8829 to designate where it will flow: C, F, 2106 or K-1(partnership) Never have had any problems with the flow-through. If it is a 2106, it then flows to Schedule A.

ILLMAS
Problem solved, if you are having trouble with this form, just recreate the client and now everything flows accordingly. MAS
