Got a part year NY return coming up. Any tips would be appreciated!

Much less of a struggle than MA, in fact a walk in the park.  If your people are retired there is an up to $20,000 pension and annuity exclusion each, for the period they were NY residents if over 59 1/2, includes IRAs.

Don't they know it snows up there....a lot.

where does he teach?  any pensions from NYS are NY tax free and have to be adjusted out.  Don't forget moving expenses btw.  If he is part year resident, click the button and may the Sales tax that gets added on.  Its audit protection against NY auditing his out of state and on line purchases for Use tax.
