I believe you can also get it online.

Here are the links for the product and the mail-in rebate:

If you use QuickBooks for online banking or have any clients who do, spend some time at the following links before you upgrade to QB2009:

If you do get the QB2009 version (for free or however), be very careful not to jump whole hog into QB2009 online banking without making absolutely sure that you can revert to your old version's online banking. This is common sense, but if you read the posts at the links above, you'll be amazed at how many people upgraded without leaving themselves any path to retreat. If you're unable to access the links (they may require an Intuit-related account--I'm not sure), then perform an online search for QuickBooks 2009 online banking, or check the reviews at any major online seller, such as Amazon.com. The horror stories are not hard to find.

Insofar as I know, the complaints are only about the online banking features. I'm not aware of complaints about other aspects of the program. If you acquire the program assuming that the online banking problems will be soon resolved, take note that Intuit's responses so far have been far from reassuring.

You can't get the Quickbooks Pro 2009 edition now. They are sold out in the store and online.

I drove 50 miles today to get to Staples only to have them tell me they were all sold out. They will also tell you that if you go online.

But thanks for the posting.

Staples is the worst company for advertising items to get you to the store to find that, magically, they're all sold out. It was probably predictable with the free Quickbooks, but I've found Staples to do this same thing repeatedly with several different items. In fact, I cannot recall a single instance of responding to a "too good to be true" ad from Staples to find the item in stock, and it really doesn't matter what time you get there. It's borderline bait-and-switch with them. Office Depot's special offers always have so much fine print and exclusions that they're basically meaningless, and I gave up shopping there about 3 years ago. I'm not surprised that Office Depot is closing down a bunch of stores. Office Max used to be the worst in terms of customer service, but that was years ago. Now Office Max is the best in my book. All 3 of these stores are within 3 miles of my office so I do have a choice, but Office Max is the one that works best for me lately.

B of A is fixing their on-line backing service to coordinate with QB, sometime in December. Remember another large bank fixing their system already this month. Check with your bank. They will know if all runs smoothly with QB 2009 or if any patches are expected soon by either the bank or QB.

The offer I received in the mail from Intuit states in the fine print that

"This free trial is a full working version of Quickbooks Premier Accountant Edition and contains a brochure that will help you access and learn about the key features. 60 days from install the trial will expire. If you decide to purchase..."

Is it possible that you're getting something for nothing? Or is it possible that this is another sca* errr limited offer by Intuit?

It may be unfair to call it a scam, since they clearly state that the trial ends in 60 days. I'm just putting this here as a precaution...be sure to check the fine print on this "free" software. Experience has shown me that once installed an Intuit program is nearly impossible to remove entirely. And, of course, the install searches for competitors programs and finds a way to disable them...

Don't forget that old Chinese proverb, "you get what you pay for." Ummm is that Chinese? I probably wouldn't be this cynical if it wasn't Intuit.
