  1. I downloaded it from the ATX download site to my server desk top and installed from there. Total elapsed time. 5 minutes. I am now going to attempt to open the program on my workstation. If you hear nothing further from me, it means I am getting some work done. Good Luck folks!

  2. Danny, I was the OP in the thread entitled "Memory usage after 12.6 update". I wouldn't exactly call it a scathing post. I posted it because lots of people over on the official site are talking about the program being really slow and some of them only have 1 or 2 GB of RAM. The only part of this that should be offensive to CCH is the last sentence about being a beta tester for this year's program. I too was a long time poster on the official site, but I never went back there after the board was abruptly shut down in April 2007, so it looks like I'm new with only 100 or so postings. Here is the post you say is so offensive: About my computer - 1 yr old, Win 7 64-bit, i7 processor at 3.4 Ghz, 12GB ram. ATX installed as standalone. After installing update 12.6, I opened ATX and it seems to be operating normally. I opened one of my test returns, a fairly basic one with 1 w-2, 1 entry on sch b, sch c with one line for sales, and a couple of expenses entered, related SE. Form 4562 is present with 2 assets entered. This could be a return that lots of us see in our practice, but this test return has minimal entries. A look at the task manager shows CPA usage ~ 14% and my physical memory started in the mid 20% range and continued to tick upward like a clock ticking seconds off. It leveled off around 53% after the return sat idle. A look at the processes showed ATX using 411,000K of memory. Now with internet running only on this page while I type, physical memory is at 66%, ATX process is 352,000K memory. No wonder some of you with lower RAM and processor speeds are having lots of problems. I simply cannot imagine what this program will take to run with some of the larger and more complex returns open on it. Of course, none of those are in for me to check. I could keep playing with some dummy returns, but what a waste of time, still beta testing this program for them. Danny, if I may ask, what was your user name on the official board?

  3. Some remember years ago when CCH promised the world in an internet product, in November that year they were giving us 100% assurance they had a 100% ready to deploy internet product. Several I know and I bit off and lost out big. It was not just inaccurate info, it was a SCAM. Complete lie, we find out later what they were showing as a "live demo" was really a video. There was no product, no hope of a product, and the programming department KNEW it was never going to work as promised. After a meeting in Orlando (December 2012) trip I flew to CCH corporate offices in Atlanta with staff for training, it has now been shown that was as much a dog and pony show a the last time I was in their corporate office. Its not Taxwise, its not ATX, it's CCH. My tech guy is a programmer, writes software for all the industrial plants around here, owns a program writing company, etc, etc, etc. He dug deep into the software code and found they never beta tested the software in a server environment (Server 2008 or 2012). Gross negligence, massive sections of code missing. When you beta test software it leaves a trail in the program itself used to trouble shoot code. And it is why it is working on a Windows XP machine in other office acting like a server, but will not work in my main office. Its the permissions needed in a server environment causing files to lock up with only one user in the program. ATX was written around forms and access data bases, if you can use access on a server, you should be able to use ATX on a server. But this re-write is way different. When I question CCH on this they said "we were hoping to roll that out in a later update". Well, today's update still does not work. CCH simply does not devote the resources necessary to beta test their own software. Been this way for years. They cut their own programming department really deep. Obviously I am pissed off. And I am up, working, and turning out returns on Drake today. Drake has been very strong, Warren Drake helped me get the conversion package to work on a Saturday, while he was at home messing with his dogs (I could hear them in the background). Drake stepped up, so we are okay. I ordered Drake Friday night, and was turning out returns in 2 hours. AND It cost less than HALF what ATX does with my tax groups discount. Hell will freeze before I buy another CCH product, and I been buying for 15 years and was quite satisfied January 1. I open two offices, and buy extra licenses so employees can use it when off site. I just purchased the write up package. I will get a refund on all if it from Discover. Sorry for the rant, just needed to vent. Just sharing real life stories, we will live, and be stronger for it, but for folks using CCH anything, I would not be your friend if I sugarcoated it, and were the rolls reversed, I hope you would use as strong a tone. No need to spread misery. On the plus side, several near retirement age tax pros in the area use ATX. None of them have the relationships we do, and the back up I got from a peer group. They are getting crushed. Looks like a silver lining might be in all this after all. I am in a mode to buy firms, those in a mode to sell them, well, they just took a giant hit to their personal asset list. Hate me for saying it, it just is what it is. This is the loss suffered when dealing with liars.

  4. Nice try CCH. Keep the spin machine turning. Tell everyone again how lucky they are to have such great "new" products to help make their lives easier.

  5. Your professionalism and public speaking ethics are showing very clearly!!! Insincere apologies are as sickening as calling someone a vulgar name in public. Just my observation....

  6. Hahahaha, this is the one thing that has worked correctly for me and been a problem for someone else. And I am sitting here second guessing myself now, imagining random bank numbers being entered by little demons during the 30 minute print cycle.

  7. Should have just copied and pasted. From Michelle at ATX: Good afternoon, To fix the fields for paper check printing: Select Print to open the Print Manager dialog, then close the Print Manager dialog. You do not have to print anything. That should fix the issue. We have a fix for this issue in the next update. Thank you, ATXMichelle

  8. I am having serious problems on my XP machine but not on my Windows 7 machine. Just found info in the kb about anti-virus interference. Here are the pages; perhaps something will help you: http://cchsfs-atx.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13994/kw/13994 http://cchsfs-atx.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13919 http://cchsfs-atx.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13867/related/1 http://cchsfs-atx.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13778/related/1

  9. I just jumped ship...bought TaxAct and sent off a couple of returns I couldn't get through TRX. Thanks, Terry. Oh...and I'm sorry I whined at ATX year after year for ten years....whatever it was I was complaining about was never, ever this bad.
