Everything was rocking along just fine this morning. Went to print the fourth return of the morning - nothing. My first thought was, what now? Upon further investigation, the printer had no paper.3 points

I expected a similar story in the Pacun's thread "Liquidated damages" but was sorely disappointed.3 points

Client arrived for appointment....sat down to exchange pleasantries. Lila the Giant friendly house dog (confined to a nearby hallway/room) runs to the gate/room seperator to greet the client...then gallops away.....seconds later Lila bounds down the hallway again...then there was explosive diarrhea, gasps of awe disgust at both the smell and quantity.....then everything got kinda hazy and I do not remember anything that happened for the next 30 minutes. Client sent text requesting to re-schedule for a later date. Several rugs are deceased and I have spent my evening cleaning instead of doing taxes. I need to drink more...lots more2 points

When I wrote of loyal customers, I was referring to customers of ATX, not my clients. I will cover for all of ATX's screw ups even if I have to work to 4am every day to get things done. My clients will never know the issues I am having. Thats how most of us will operate I am sure, IF we can. Some cannot because they do the returns right then and there at the appointment (I really feel for those users). I was referring to us, the customers of ATX taking it on the chin and having to work so much harder, and spending many unbillable hours, and undergoing undue stress, to get the same result as prior years. The car analogy is ridiculous. I could not test drive the program like some car siting on a lot. ATX solicited me to renew my program in May, and never informed me that a program overhaul was expected, and that problems might ensue. Like all past 15 YEARS I renewed, I trusted my vendor. I expected them to perform as they had the past 15 years, to deliver to me, 7 months after prepayment, the same quality product as prior years. Not a non-functional mess delivered right before the start of tax season with no complete fix yet in sight.2 points

Hahahaha, this is what I have been thinking, but didn't want to get my lunch eaten. So, even though I have the ATX recommended specs, I ordered a computer, will spend a lot of money and time getting it all settled in, and be glad that little chore is done, cause I would eventually need a new computer. Maybe. Eventually. In a few years. Nuclear powerplant / missile trajectory. Very funny. I love it. Yes, all I want is a stupid tax return. LOL.2 points

I filed a comsumer complaint online with, the Tennesse AG, http://www.tn.gov/attorneygeneral/. I would encourage everyone that seeks a refund and/or justice to follow suite. Nobody can assure any success however nothing ventured nothing gained. Mike Dubin CPA1 point

I did my personal corporate return today. With depreciation. The 4562 does not populate the depreciation amount but at least the draft is off. We use the Fixed Asset Manager so the assets "rolled over" from FAM. Deprecciation was fine, beginning balances were fine. No problem with the return, no problem with error checking. Of course, cannot efile yet. And I did the return on a workstation. I am going to start on the other corp/partnership returns and put a disclaimer on the client letter that the return will be efiled once the IRS has given me permisison to do so. Going to have the client sign the 8879 with the undersanding that the date will be added once permission to efile is obtained. At this point, the IRS be damned with its signature/date requirement. Auto save does not not prevent manual save. If I sense I have done a lot of work in 5 minutes that I do not want to do again, or after every significant import, I just click save and move on.1 point

I don't prepare returns while the clients wait, so they don't know about my "challenges" yet. They will start calling soon to see if I forgot about them. My tax return income YTD is 29% what it was at this point last year. The returns are here, stacked up, and waiting. Oh, and pity the fool who doesn't have everything just right when she clicks "Create e-file".1 point

Yes, I have lost many hours of productivity in dealing with the problems. Fortunately, I am a CPA office and we do not send clients on their way with their return, we do some input while they are here, and then review and process later, so I have not lost clients. But,....when I want to switch to a form and it takes a minute or so to pull up the form that is already in the return, or print out an 8879, which takes 5 minutes, it is not a real confidence builder in my clients that my staff or I are at the mercy of this software. Many people have spoken about a class action lawsuit after tax season and I would seriously entertain the idea if some serious compensation isn't offered. I remember a few years ago we had problems (may have been the year they outsourced tech support to India, but cannot remember), they sent me a voucher for a trip to somewhere in the Caribbean, but I had to pay the airfare....wow. So essentially they wanted me to spend money to give me something, I live in Washington State so not a cheap trip to get there.1 point

cnccpas: thank you for the informative post, but it's not necessary to cross-post it in every thread. Thanks.1 point

Just tell him he needs to buy a new vehicle to get a better tax deduction. Clients love it when they can use the tax write-off as an excuse to buy something new and shiny. :)1 point

I decided to take a low-impact approach, and haven't seen anything yet which would make me regret this decision. (Of course tax season isn't over yet) I did have the added advantage of taking the last few days off, part of which I've spent looking at Drake training videos. I have a pretty good idea of what has come into my office while I was away, and I feel confident that I'm ready to tackle all of them. And as I said, those which I completed before leaving were a breeze. Seems like time spent generating revenue is a lot more productive than trying to decipher all the complexities of a program that is clearly not ready for its intended use. I see that some people are doing fine and they say they are having no problems. But there are just too many stories of slow printing, wierd procedures, instability, crashes, etc to suit me. Some of the work-arounds that I've seen suggested make me very uncomfortable. I'm just not interested in risking being one of the guinea pigs.1 point

This is my life right now! This message is seared into my brain at this point. My dad helps me out on a workstation and yesterday I had never seen him so frustrated... and he has been helping me for 9 years using ATX. He's yelling at me "Check the forums!", "Call this company and find out what they are going to do!". I told him it's a 2 hour wait for Customer Support.. if you can even get into the queue. The workstation he uses constantly just hangs while opening returns. Yesterday he sat in front of the computer for 20 minutes waiting for a return to open. The screen simply said "Loading Return", with the nice and fancy animation. In all that time he had to make small talk. I work on the server and the program generally crashes about 5 times per hour. Usually when either printing or deleting a form from the return. This happened to me at about 1230am last night. Tired. Exhausted. Trying to catch up and go home and when I right-clicked a form tab to delete it.... the screen greyed out suddenly and the dreaded box came up "cchfs has stopped working the program will close". I literally screamed and pounded my fists on the desk. When I need to open ATX 2011, it's like I died and went to heaven -- that's how smooth that program ran!!!1 point
