  1. I haven't watered my lawn since the 80s. If it's hot and dry, I enjoy not having to cut grass. Besides, it's a huge waste of drinkable water. Grass knows how to go dormant.

  2. For the record, AutoSave has not worked since 2011. If you start a new return, not rolled over, and do not save before or when you close, it will be blank when you go back. ATX better have this fixed for 2015, or I will send an e-mail twice a day, and make a phone call a day till they do.

  3. I went to a Drake sales seminar over the summer. While I decided to go with Drake (a decision I had been mulling for 10 years), even the demo of the hosted version didn't go very smoothly and the presenter didn't push it at all. I don't have the same aversion to cloud based software some others have (I'm using it in some other areas). As far as Drake Hosted is concerned, maybe someday. But IMO they're not even close yet.

  4. Schedule H also serves as the 940; complete page 2 if the employee meets the requirement to pay FUTA.

  5. I'm just going to be lazy and say check out Publication 926. Agree with the other Rita. Basically, Sch H serves as the 941 (or 943, as it were). Don't complete 941 or 943. Prepare W-2 and W-3, 940, and state unemployment if wages are above the limits. Wages paid to some individuals don't count. Agree, a nanny is not a subcontractor. http://www.irs.gov/publications/p926/ar02.html#en_US_2014_publink100086752

  6. W-2. Schedule H. He can withhold employee FICA/Medicare. Or, pay all of it and add "her" half to her salary in Box 1. State version of 941, probably annually in January. NO 1099. Read latest issue of EA Journal.

  7. I have absolutely NO interest in cloud-based software of almost any kind. If tax software becomes only cloud-based, I will retire and go back to doing my own returns by hand.
