  1. Are you sure neither parent qualifies for HOH? Just because the kids "claimed" themselves, it doesn't mean that they should have. If either kid is full time student under age 24 and did not provide over 1/2 of their own support, HOH, education credits and even EIC may come into play.

  2. "According to the IRS website, as of July 31, there were approximately 13.8 million unprocessed individual income tax returns. This is down from 15.6 million as of July 17, so the backlog is being chipped away slowly but surely,” said James McGrory, a CPA and shareholder at Drucker & Scaccetti in Philadelphia."

  3. I have 2 amendment paper filed last year waiting to be processed. Both have refund. I have no confidence 13 million will be processed by end of year.

  4. K-1 goes to deceased partner. If he died during the year then more than one K-1 is issued since the partnership tax year for the deceased ends on DOD.

  5. At that rate it will take over 4 months to process the rest before a slug of new returns come prior to the Oct deadline.

  6. If stimulus payments are based on a joint return, the IRS considers each spouse to have received half the amount, so I think they would expect her to report receiving $1,450 on the RRC worksheet. If she claims the incorrect amount of Recovery Rebate Credit as a result, they will consider it a math error and correct it, but this will delay the refund.

  7. Gosh, Oh golly, you mean the IRS made a mistake. What is this world coming to? The clients would be best advised to put the money in a separate bank account, because sometime within the next 3 years they may receive a letter from the IRS. "Dear Taxpayer, In August of2021 we sent you a refund check for $3000.00. We are sorry to inform you that the person who calculated your refund was suffering from apoxia due to prolonged mask wearing. Said person made an error in determining your refund, which we have found in its totality to be unwarranted. Please accept our sincere apologize for this, but we demand that the $3000.00. plus interest of $27.33 be returned to us within 15 days, or interest will continue to accrue. Furthermore, failure to pay could subject you to collection action including levying your bank account and garnishing your wages. Joe Potatohead, Supervisor of Dumbbells"

  9. It was a challenging tax season for many of us. Normally, during this time of year, calls and emails from clients are few and far between. Not this year. I've been busy answering questions about "where's my refund", "what's this letter from President Biden", "what is this direct deposit I just received" and so on. I suspect the coming season will offer it's share of challenges as well. I hope everyone is well and enjoying the waning days of summer. Before you know it, a new season will be upon us.

  10. Yes, lots of letters are coming to my clients because in spite of my spending countless hours explaining why I needed their exact stimulus payments, many got them wrong. In other news, I did sell my business! YAY! I will continue to work for the buyers for at least 4 years. I will be transitioning from TaxWise to Ultra Tax. Praying for an easy learning curve. I'm so happy to be an employee and not a business owner. One more step toward retirement. And yes, you will still see me here!

  11. I have at least one 2019 that has not been processed yet. Still, they want money from him for 2020 when he had money applied from 2019. Cannot make any verbal contact.

  12. I had a client get about their THIRD letter demanding payment of tax NOT owed - they filed about a week before the UI exclusion. They've actually paid the small amount of tax that was really due, but keep getting auto-letters demanding a lot more, that is NOT owed, and every time they get a new letter they call me in a panic. And I tell them, *again*, that the letters are being sent out by computer and that they don't owe $2K. I am SO sick of this. And there is nothing anyone can do.
