  1. Safety features are worth it. We have a newer Jeep GC with all the bells and whistles. The lane assist is fun-ish, but the auto cruise is what I use most. Not perfect, as it can brake incorrectly on certain curves, but it is better to stop when not needed than too late. Thankfully, the platform was well vetted, shared with many other vehicles, so nothing major newly untested. I was a bit reluctant, given my racing history, to believe I needed assistance, but I gave in to age... But, we have a TJ Wrangler with nothing more than belts and bags, and is a manual, we have with door and top off for "fun" driving. If Ford ever gets enough Mavericks so we can actually test one, we would likely trade the GC for the Maverick, to get the hybrid. The platform is shared with other models, so like our GC, it is relatively well tested. We are a but limited in what we buy as it needs to be able to be flat towed behind our MH. And I do not like the latest and newest, I want something shared across models, and at least a year into their run.

  4. The efile was rejected because the Marketplace reported to the IRS that his SSN (or the SSN of someone he is claiming as a dependent) was included on a Marketplace policy and received APTC. It doesn't matter who purchased or paid for the policy - he must reconcile it on his return. If your taxpayer does not believe any such policy exists, you can include a statement of explanation. Your software may allow you to e-file with a canned explanation. See https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/how-to-correct-an-electronically-filed-return-rejected-for-a-missing-form-8962

  6. I assured the board that it was not a Scam, but an unfortunate lapse. I realized this almost immediately and my entire payment has been refunded.

  7. This reminds me of a forum signature that echoes my thought: "There is NO cloud, only other people's computers."

  8. IR-2022-143, July 26, 2022 WASHINGTON — As part of a special Security Summit series, the Internal Revenue Service, state tax agencies and nation's tax industry warn tax professionals to beware of evolving scams designed to steal client data. The Security Summit partners continue to see instances where tax professionals have been vulnerable to identity theft phishing emails that pose as potential clients. The criminals then trick practitioners into opening email links or attachments that infect computer systems with the potential to steal client information. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/security-summit-warns-tax-pros-of-evolving-email-and-cloud-based-schemes-to-steal-taxpayer-data

  9. First of all, let me assure you that this was NOT a scam. Cbslee is correct that their marketing personnel are very agressive. I spent over an hour yesterday on the phone with their Sales Manager and this is, in fact, a legitimate company. I believe the issue has been resolved. His main concern was removing a black mark from their record; which was really the result of the Sales Rep being over-zealous. I was having a bad day and got talked into something that I did not want. We got what we asked for, which was a chance to test the program without the exchange of money. This is primarily for my assistant rather than myself. She will be the one moving forward when I no longer am able to. For myself, I have no desire to place my clients on a Cloud. If it is the wave of the future, so be it. I am happy with things just the way they are now and I probably don't have that many years to worry about it; but it will be nice to leave her with some options that she can afford. Thank you for your input. I have a load off of my shoulders. There are plenty more loads that still need to be removed.

  10. I tend to tell them to stop about $1,000 short for those same reasons. And, then mom comes in and shows me her canceled check for $15,000 and brags about buying him over $3,000 in ski gear for Christmas!

  11. Incidental and basically valueless items such as birthday cards, a cake, and the like, don't count. I tell my clients if the limit is $16,000, not to give more than $15,500 so there is room for a nice birthday or Christmas gift, or sudden repair-the-dishwasher help. And that last $500 could be the Christmas gift.
