  3. The Drake forum hasn't had many users comment on Drake hosted software. One person commented that the printer and fonts were slightly problematic, and a couple of people agreed that it's better to have control of the software on our machines. Specifically, several agreed with slower internet in the more rural areas making this unworkable, or what if the internet was down in either the user's area or Drake's? Then the person can't work on the returns? Plus, with any cloud-based software, the user loses the ability to continue using the software if changing vendors. I'll stick with having the software on my machine for as long as possible.

  4. The portion of sale proceeds relating to intangibles is a class VI asset for reporting on the Form 8594. It would be a sec 1231 gain or loss. You might find Pub 544 helpful, scroll down or search for "Dispositions of Intangible Property"If you want the cite: Code sec 197(f)(1): (f) Special rules (1) Treatment of certain dispositions, etc. (A) In general If there is a disposition of any amortizable section 197 intangible acquired in a transaction or series of related transactions (or any such intangible becomes worthless) and one or more other amortizable section 197 intangibles acquired in such transaction or series of related transactions are retained— (i) no loss shall be recognized by reason of such disposition (or such worthlessness), and (ii) appropriate adjustments to the adjusted bases of such retained intangibles shall be made for any loss not recognized under clause (i).

  5. Yes. But you have to do one asset at a time. Can be time consuming if you have a lot of assets. In Fixed Assets, highlight an asset. Click on Print Page. You get a drop down menu. You can check the sheets you want to print. Before doing, change printer to your pdf printer so you don't get a lot of paper printed.

  6. Yes, the odds of tax saving strategies being successful are directly proportional to the freeloadingness of the friend. That's how it works. This is science.

  7. Microsoft has been modifying windows 7 & 8 with their 'telemetry' that's part of 10, and also pushing 10 on users of 7 & 8. I keep seeing the 10 update in Windows Update, even though I've hidden it and uninstalled the Get Windows 10 tool (KB3035583). Telemetry is sending data back to Microsoft about how you use your computer. If, like me, you're uncomfortable sending unknown data back to Microsoft, you can do the following. Below are the best instructions I've found so far. If it looks like Geek to you, call your IT person, but most of it is quite simple, although windows does its best to hide Task Scheduler and Services. Remove the following updates (if installed already) KB3068708 Update for customer experience and diagnostic telemetry KB3022345 Update for customer experience and diagnostic telemetry KB2952664 Compatibility update for upgrading Windows 7 KB2990214 Update that enables you to upgrade from Windows 7 to a later version of Windows KB3035583 Update installs Get Windows 10 app in Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1 KB971033 Description of the update for Windows Activation Technologies KB3021917 Update to Windows 7 SP1 for performance improvements KB3044374 Update that enables you to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to a later version of Windows Command Prompt: sc stop Diagtrack sc delete Diagtrack *Task Scheduler Library: Everything under "Application Experience" Everything under "Autochk" Everything under "Customer Experience Improvement Program" Under "Disk Diagnostic" only the "Microsoft-Windows-DiskDiagnosticDataCollector" Under "Maintenance" "WinSAT" "Media Center" and click the "status" column, then select all non-disabled entries and disable them. (None of my computers had Media Center) *services.msc: "Remote Registry" to "Disabled" instead of "Manual"
