I have created a new warning system for the forum (applied to the entire ATX Community, not just the Politics forum) in an attempt to keep things friendly. So here's how it's gonna work: All current warnings in the system have been removed, everyone starts fresh.Any warning you receive from now on will expire after 30 days. When you get a warning, you will not be able to post again until you acknowledge that the warning has been received. If you accumulate three warnings within a 30 day period, you lose the ability to post for 3 days.Every warning received above 3 removes posting ability for three days. The only way to reduce your warnings is to behave yourself and let them expire after 30 days. All of these things are automated by the system, except for the actual handing-out of warnings by the moderators, who will do their best to be fair and consistent. Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Complaints?

Even if he did care, there's no way to make a disembodied call center care. How could they feel the same sense of pride in the product as the folks who worked so closely together to build it from nothing? The tight knit team who built and supported ATX Software is gone. CCH didn't have any interest in purchasing the company culture. It's just a number on a very large balance sheet.

lol it's going to get quiet in here real soon.

locked. this thread has expired, and is starting to stink.

Well that changed directions quickly. A current member of the forum must have signed up for a new account. I think I know who it is, but I'm not telling.

Why Does Running My Microwave Kill My Wi-Fi Connectivity?

Thanks for sharing that. My son (2 years old) is obsessed with trains. He'd rather watch an hour-long YouTube video showing train after train after train than any movie or cartoon. I guess now I know what he'll sound like as an adult. Poor kid. -
Today I learned that teenage girls are obnoxious.

NT - BEST INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO YOU WILL EVER SEE EVER.

So, let me get this straight. Madonna: cone boobs. Lady Gaga: Telephone hat. Miley Cyrus: sticks tongue out for an entire performance. I think she's doing it wrong. Madonna and Lady Gaga might be considered artists. Mylie Cyrus' hillbilly retard father donated her body to the entertainment industry in exchange for success and fortune. She is the result of an image constructed in a board room by a team of marketing people. If she possesses any creativity of her own, she hasn't been allowed to show it. -
Be sure to check how much space you're using on your current hard drive before you try to copy it all over to a new SSD. SSDs are generally a lot smaller than traditional drives, so it may be that you have more on your current drive than will fit on the SSD. In my computers I only have the OS and software loaded on the SSD, with regular drives for storing the rest of my files.
-
I'm sure someone here knows where to find the files, but there is probably a Knowledge Base document on the ATX site with that information too. (I haven't used the software for a few years, so I can't say where they might have moved it to)

You guys are making me paranoid. I have a beanbag chair in the corner for my dog to sleep on while I work.

I'm not Pro-PC or anything, but if you take any model Mac and look at the price, and then go buy a PC for the same price, you have a very good chance of getting better hardware than what comes with the Mac. Specs being equal, PCs are almost always cheaper than Macs. Apple has done well to brand their products as being Premium, and being able to charge accordingly, even if the guts are the same commodity hardware. Price isn't an advantage on the nicer Chromebooks. Google makes a Chromebook called the Pixel, which is a very nice piece of hardware. http://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/devices/chromebook-pixel/ ChromeOS is a stripped down version of Linux meant to get you online and surfing the web. So, if what you do on a computer can't all be done on the web, then chances are this can't be your primary computer. There are a ton of people who do almost exclusively use computers as an appliance for getting on the web -- for those people something like this might make sense. The real advantage, though, is that you don't have to worry about security or upgrades in the normal OS sense. Since the whole things is web based, and all of the "applications" are web based, as Google's (and other) services improve, so does your experience with the OS. No more operating system upgrades, software updates, no more malware, no more antivirus. If you drop your Chromebook into a lake and buy a new one, you sign in with the same username and password, and everything is exactly the same. Of course, all of that comes at the cost of wondering if the NSA is reading your grocery list. It would be perfect for our friend's 12 year old--her whole class does all of their word processing in Google Docs, and share homework/essays/presentations/etc directly with the teacher. The teacher makes comments on the assignments without a piece of paper ever being printed. The Chromebook Pixel is really nice, and I could use it to do *some* of my work online, since a lot of it involves maintaining content through web-based content management systems, but the real work, like programming requires specialized software. Do Netbooks still exist? It seems like they are a short-lived thing that are getting replaced by tablets. They're usually low-power, small laptops with 10 or 11 inch screens. I'm not sure that'd be all that great for getting work done either. If you're looking for a cheap and portable computer for doing work on, your best bet might be to get something refurbished, or constantly be on the lookout for a really good deal. There are often some really great deals at slickdeals.net but you have to jump on them fast: http://slickdeals.net/deals/computers/

I've said it in other threads.. Windows 8 isn't all that much different from Windows 7. People are over-reacting. It needs a start button, which they're adding in 8.1. The windows key on your keyboard will do the same thing, but if you want the button there, you can buy a program for $5 to add a really nice windows 7 style start button and menu: http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/ Without the application, the start menu is a full screen menu. It has much better keyboard navigation and shortcuts than windows 7. (example, hit windows key, start typing the name of your application, and hit enter. application opens) Keybaord shortcuts aren't for everyone, but I like them quite a bit. Just ignore/remove all of the hokey Metro (touch optimized) apps, and use it like you would use Windows 7.

If only it were simply just a matter of being busy. It's probably a mental problem that has a label somewhere. For electrical service, that would work. Lowes has a thing called My Lowes that allows you to keep track of your home improvement stuff in one place, so there's that. Heating oil is a big expense up here, and they're in the dark ages when it comes to billing. I suppose I could bother them for a printout of my account once a year.
-
Oh, I know. I don't have any trouble actually doing the return and plugging the numbers in, it's keeping track of the month to month electricity/heating/whatever that I'm no good at. I've had a home office for something like 6 years now, and only claimed the deduction the first year. Even then I wasn't very thorough and left a lot of expenses out because I didn't want to deal with rounding up all of the information.
-
I will likely choose this method due to laziness and chronic disorganization. When you say "just a matter of plugging their expenses" it sounds so easy, but I'd rather eat a dozen earth worms than do bills and keep organized records. I remember in school we used to get graded on our notebooks.. how complete they were, with our homework and tests and notes all organized and separated with tabbed sheets. It counted as a test grade, and it was done once a quarter. On the day it was due, I would shove whatever papers I had sticking out of my text book into a binder--a single test grade was not incentive enough. This is why I don't burden a tax preparer with my return.

If you don't mind dealing with mail-in rebates here's another deal, $140 shipped 2nd day air for an (almost) 24" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236112&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL081513&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL081513-_-EMC-081513-Index-_-LCDMonitors-_-24236112-L0A This one has a nicer LCD panel, but maybe not $60 nicer: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236335

I was really amped to continue the puns, but using two in one sentence is just revolting.

Watt are you talking about? I don't get it.

lol Politics forum coming up. I'm going to add a new emoticon for me to use in there too. EDIT:
-
There are four or five people who really like talking politics. There are a couple more who chime in from time to time. There are a few who tell me they are sick of seeing it. I stay out of it, but look at some of the threads once in a while out of morbid curiosity. Anyway, let me know what you think. Time for a politics forum? I already know that a lot of people are going to say "Ignore it if you don't like it" but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Just a quick note, I've merged the Software Issues forum back into General Chat.
