  1. Is there a Form 8606 in the return where the taxpayer has basis for IRA? If so, you would need to enter the additional information required on that form in order for the taxable amount of the distribution to be properly calculated.
  2. Thanks jshtax, I saw that in the training videos for the 2013 software and was the reason I posted the question about disabling it for now.
  3. Why can't users disable the automatic backup feature and use the "export" feature instead to make sure that data isn't lost? At least do that on a temporary basis until ATX sends through the program update to fix this issue.
  4. cred65, do you have exports of the 2012 returns from the old machine that were backed up by carbonite? If you do, you could use those files to import into the 2012 program on the new computer. Jack, would that work if he has exports?
  5. The descriptions and pictures on this list made me laugh out loud when I think back about this past year on this forum. The list goes through to page two of this post: http://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?53850-The-Full-List-of-Internet-Forum-Personalities!-With-pictures!
  6. The robot has great quotes! They remind me of this forum.
  7. TAG, how many W-2s are you doing? If it's a very small number, just address a plain #10 business envelope and make sure that the face of the envelope also contains the words "IMPORTANT TAX RETURN DOCUMENT ENCLOSED" in bold and in a large font.
  8. Taxtrio, since you already have the monitor plugged in, just try to configure it. Those steps will take you less than 2 minutes to find out if it works or not.
  9. Jack, thanks for posting this. I pinned this for now to keep it at the top. Once that permanent fix is applied by ATX via that future update, would you please post that information here so that KC or I can unpin this topic?
  10. That dropdown is for the multiple displays is where you should choose "extend these displays". Click OK and then if it looks as you want it, click "keep changes". Then, you have to drag the windows over to the second monitor. Click and hold on the title bar to drag them. It's all in that video from microsoft that I posted.
  11. Taxtrio, here is Microsoft's video of how to set it up : http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Move-windows-between-multiple-monitors?fwLinkID=162499 I found this by going to my start menu, clicking Help & Support, and then searching that section for "Dual Monitors". There's a little more info there, but not much. Hope this helps.
  12. I'd be interested to try that, Eric. Remember that other site also told me that the IE11 browser wasn't detecting Java 7, although it was installed and was showing as "enabled" in my IE11 add-ons. I'm glad Jack isn't having any troubles with IE11 and Java, but when I googled those 2 in one search, lots of pages came up with people having a variety of issues with the 2 programs working properly together.
  13. I ran that test using Oracle's tool the very first night and it told me that I had the most current version and found no issues. That did not help me, if fact it made me waste time trying to get it to work because I knew it was installed.
  14. haha, we got 12" here yesterday with another big storm predicted for Monday. I think it was a day that h*ll froze over. I shoveled the driveway after 6", and 6" more fell. At least I can drive through that much and still see where the driveway is. I also shoveled the backyard a couple of times, because you know the Chihuahuas have very short legs! I will say though, my dogs all love the snow.
  15. Eric, you're funny. This topic was hijacked long before your post. Hey, I could change the title again, but this site wouldn't allow that much of a title for all that's been covered.
  16. None of my clients will be in until then either, and those are the easier ones. I do have my own corporation tied in and prepared. I haven't efiled it yet though.
  17. Any of the browsers can be tried. SSA doesn't tell you not to use any particular one. There were configuration and troubleshooting issues mentioned in the troubleshooting and FAQs pages of SSAs site for each of the browsers and how to fix settings if certain errors occurred. If you were able to download it, you should be good. My W-2 is always the first one I test, and it is working for me. I did get an informational-only error saying the transmitter's EIN and the payer's EIN were an exact match, and that was OK to process if that was my actual intent.
  18. If I gave the heave-ho to every client that didn't listen or follow through with my advice over the years, I wouldn't have too many clients left. Did the sole prop have other employees or did she put herself on payroll? Besides "the banker said...", are there any real benefits to her being an S corp?
  19. If by "here" you mean in the case of IE11 being able to detect that the latest version of Java is on the machine, that won't work. It isn't a compatibility issue with IE11 interacting with a web page, IE11 is not recognizing that Java is installed and enabled.
  20. If you only need a small quantity, you might try somewhere like Quill, Staples or Office Max. You can search their sites and view them online. Of course, places like Nelco have them too. I've never printed from the SSA's site, so I'm not sure which layout is printed. Here's Quill: http://www.quill.com/search?keywords=w2+envelopes&x=0&y=0 I see KC posted those other links while I was looking up Quill. Looks like you have plenty to choose from.
  21. Here's a link to an ATX training video on e-filing that explains the process. The explanation of the specific part of e-filing that you've asked about starts at about the 3 minute mark and the reason ATX defaults to the "held" status is also explained in the video starting just before the 4 minute mark. Having the states "held" until the fed approves the e-filing is the default selection that is found under Preferences and clicking on the E-file section in that area. As KC said, this is a good way to handle the efiling and the reason ATX has set this as the default method. http://www.youtube.com/embed/khADB8ILrGk?rel=0?rel=0&showinfo=0&autoplay=1 This video and other training videos are located at MyATX and from there by selecting "Education Library" that is the last selection in the very left-hand column. You don't need to be logged in to view them.
  22. So then you haven't tried to download accuwage yet? You might be ok using IE10, but I'll tell you that the SSA rep I spoke with said that anyone with Win 7 and with IE9 or higher might have the same problem this year that I did with the Java intercepting page popping up. It might work for you and it might not. Also, SSA recommends that you uninstall all previous year versions of accuwage before you begin the current year's download, and the SSA site will require that your Java is up to date. If you try to download Accuwage 2013 with an older version of Java, it will pop up the intercepting page with a click button that will take you to Java's site to get the latest version. You won't be able to get Accuwage until you complete this step no matter what internet browser you are using. That's where I was stuck, and I did have the most recent Java. I could see the latest version of Java was installed by looking at my control panel, and I could test that on Java's site also. Someone on another forum provided me with a link to a www.whatismybrowser.com that easily and clearly told me that Java was not being detected even though I could also see that all of it was "enabled" in my add-ons list. If anyone else running Internet Explorer has this problem and can't easily resolve the problem and you have another browser or are willing to download one, do that instead of being frustrated or wasting all of the time that I did over this little Accuwage program! It would be easier if SSA allowed the upload of the W-2 file to their site to run Accuwage on there, and then to continue on with the filing and processing if no errors were found. I guess that would be too simple and logical for a government site to work that way!
  23. Deb is correct. Restore your 2012 returns using the 2012 program. When you are ready to rollover the returns, open the 2013 program and click on Rollover Manager where a list of returns should be shown. From that list, you will choose the return(s) that you want to rollover from 2012.
  24. I'm glad it helped and saved you the frustration I went through trying to make things work. I'm going to change the title of the topic to be more descriptive of my troubles with the download. Maybe it will help others too.
